Too much Deus Ex Machina. I usually tolerate at most ONE hard-to-believe plot device per Sci-Fi story. Having several hard-to-believe occurrences allowing the good-guys to stay on top despite horrifically bad odds classifies as shear fantasy in my opinion. It's difficult to read a book when your eyes won't stop rolling! This novel mainly appears to be a means to introduce new major characters and antagonisms to the series to keep it "fresh". Oh well, I enjoyed the previous 5 or so novels of this series. I don't think I gave any spoilers here; after all, you didn't expect the good guys to get stomped, did you?

Really good book. I’ve read the series now through book #7 and I’ve enjoyed it immensely. There’s plenty of action: space battles and occasional marine trooper battles. I like the characters too, although I would dearly like to gain more knowledge and certainly more depth to the main characters, as well as more personal interaction and intersocial building between primary characters. I definitely enjoy the humorous banter that goes back and forth between Commodore Weston and Stephan. This kind of humor in a book is what keeps me engaged and looking forward to the next book. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the space battles and all, but it’s the characters and the interplay between those characters that keep me entertained and coming back for more.
I’ll have to say one thing that gets a little old is how some of the Earth captains have this hatred or strong dislike of Captain Weston when they don’t really know him. Idu how a military person could have those preconceived emotions and thoughts about another military person who they don’t know and who has literally saved Earth’s (and those Captains!) butts, time and time again. They claim he’s arrogant but how can they say that of a man who was initially paraded by the government as a hero yet, he personally tried to stay out of the lime light, and then once assigned to space was never back in-system between engagements long enough to field the lime light, and besides that, why aren’t those captains giving their comrade in arms the credit and distinction he deserves for all of his accomplishments? Idk... this particular issue reads a bit false and definitely overdone (in my opinion). ? The only other issue I’ll bring to the table is editing, which has not been bad by any means but has definitely improved with each book. Congrats! However, the one consistency through all of them is the exceedingly overusage of the word “that” in places where it’s not needed. I realize this may be the style of speech for the characters but it’s even in the narrative so I would just caution the author to perhaps try to catch some of those in the next draft.
One of the other really positives about this book is the audible book, which is offered for free with KU program. This is an awesome benefit which any serious readers knows and even though I did not utilize this offer, I was certainly aware and appreciative of the gift. We all know that hardly any other authors are this gracious when it comes to the audible book market. Kudos to this author!!! And many thanks!!! ??
I’m very glad I happened upon this series and I will definitely be awaiting the next release in this series, which I’m guessing will be sometime in October if he stays on the same release schedule of his previous books. This is only a guess though. We could hope for sooner ?but I’d prefer the same time frame if it would chance compromising quality or the storyline. We never want that, ? so we wait for our preferred authors to do their thing!! ?

I was disappointed with the last book because of the limited time frame and lack of overall arc progression. This book have more than redeemed the series and reminded me why this series is one of the few that I actually purchase rather than just borrow on Kindle Unlimited.

In the new reality of Kindle Unlimited where there are more books available than you have time to read. The writing quality can vary by a large margin. There are series that I read through with only a few weeks/months between books that I would struggle to remember the plot or the characters when i pick up the latest addition. In some cases i would borrow what I thought is a new book only to realize that I have already read it after I start reading.

That's certainly not the case here. Even with the sometimes painfully long interval between books in this series. The moment I picked up the latest addition. I would have no problem knowing who is who and remember major events that happened earlier in the series. This series is certainly one what will leave a lasting impression and make you longing for more.

Much better than number 6 (what a disaster that was) but not quite as thrilling as the earlier works. Notwithstanding, several patterns begin to emerge (to my mind) and except for the annoying habit Mr. Currie has of inserting so many different plot lines, and characters (a recent problem with him), the story continues on with the burning question. Where are the Drasin?

There are hints regarding the Drasin and who in the Empire released them but in the meantime, the problem facing Earth is how to stop a vast empire with a fleet many times larger and equally as good. No easy answers which make for exciting reading.

If Mr. Currie could find some discipline, tighten his narrative and concentrate on Human, Imperial narrative (with one or two other points of views) then this series could fulfill it's earlier promise.

Where are the Drasin?

I really like the odyssey series, and this was no exception. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because, and this may be a spoiler so I'll try to keep it vague....

The final battle to save the day involved a super weapon, that seems to be able to target ships and fleets, no explanation was given ad to why the entire invading g fleet wasn't just destroyed from the get go, and instead another target wad chosen, and when that wasn't enough, a single ship in the fleet was targeted, proving ships can be pinpointed.

It would destroy the story if they could just zap the enemy fleet, but it still needs to be explained why you can't just target the entire fleet.

Space war with the Empire. Commodore Weston, the Odysseus and Odysseus himself against the manipulators of the Drassin. The Rogues ships with the Prometheus Project made the final piece for a cease of fire in the last moments, but isn't going to last. New machinations are made by Lord Jesan of the Empire to eliminate the threat that's the Prometheus Project is and Commodore Weston knew that's going to be that. In the mean time another entity like Central, Gaia and Odysseus have made moves to disrupt everything. And finally made Odysseus personally rage for the first time. What's going to happen in the next chapter of the Odyssey One series... Hope that's one come fast...

Interesting space military sci-fi novel displays the author's soaring imagination and writing skill. He manages to hold the reader's attention in a novel whose action builds slowly until the climax when the opposing fleets clash in an epic battle
Epic , but not decisive. Not a spoiler, because this book was number seven in the series and their more to come.
I thought the characters were interesting and the action believable.

I had not read the precipitous books, but it did not detract from my enjoyment.
I received a free copy through Goodreads to read and review.

I received a free copy of Odysseus Ascendant (Odyssey One, Book 7) by Evan Currie in exchange for an honest review. The empire has no more tolerance for the defiance of the Priminae and the anomalies allied with them. When the empire learns that humans only inhabit one world, it decides to eliminate the resistance permanently. The empire is coming! How will the grossly outnumbered and outgunned humans of the Sol system survive?

I enjoyed this book. It had a clear story line that advanced the series. It was a nice way to spend a very long drive.

Evan Currie writes really kick ass science fiction. He has not let up on the action, danger and tension in Odysseus Ascendant. I enjoyed the book even though I have not read all the book in the Odyssey One series. I knew I had missed the action from some of the previous books but it was still an easy story to get into. While the danger is countered the big problem is still roaming the galaxy so look for more action and adventure in future books.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Good addition to the series. Not great. Definitely better than #5... pretty much on par with #6 in terms of both entertainment, action, and plot development.

The last three books in this series seem to be missing some of the secret sauce that the first four had in abundance. I have re-read the first 4 books multiple times and I cant say that I will bother to re-read this one (#7). Maybe my expectations are a bit unrealistic?

All that said, I am still looking forward to the next book in this series!

A great continue of this series of books, Our author Evan has once again placed Commodore Eric Weston and his crew with a major problem. The Empire has decided that it must wipe out the humans and their allies. But as expected the Commodore take a pasting idea to the next level to give his people the edge that they need. But I have a feeling that the new character Saul is going to be the one that we will need to watch. Looking forward to the next book.

Love this series. Eric Weston is a commodore who inspires his crew to peak performance, and uncommon loyalty. Steph is his long time fighter jock best bud who flies souped up space fighters known as Arch Angels. Earth has allied with another space faring race of humans known as Priminai. They are locked in a desperate battle against the ‘Empire’, who bring to bear a space armada of overwhelming odds. But, hey, we are talking about Earth and Eric Weston. I would not like to be the commander of that Empire fleet!

The ongoing discovery or revealing of these entities as well as the epic battles taking place in space makes one hungry for just a few more pages. By this I mean that every time I am reading I can’t or don’t want stop reading.
Either wanting to see how a current situation will work out. Or the element of discovery. I can’t wait to learn more about the empire and what drives it. How will earth and its allies protect themselves.
While love the underdog part it’s nice to see the “bully’s” finally get taken down a peg or two.
Would like to see and have more building of closer, more detailed information about the building of relationships between key figures and how they begin to both understand each other and their ships / technology.
Not spoil anything but the close bond between the arc angel pilots and their ships. Outdated or not the fighters and their pilots, have a special bond that would be nice to see build with crew and spaceships.

Thanks for another book I couldn’t put down.

Excellent installment in the series. I have read books 1-7 and all have them have been fast paced and enjoyable. I am hoping there is another book in the saga on the horizon. I am hoping to see a little more love interests develop among some of the characters. The author seems have hinted there may be some relationships building. I think a lot of us SciFi readers are romantics at heart.

Wow, what a riveting and fun read this latest book was. It was effectively a constant, on the edge of my seat, running hopeless battle for the entire book. Few authors can do that without the reader throwing up their hands and screaming ‘enough’.... Currie managed to haul the reader through all of that and... now... I’m looking forward to a next book handling what comes next.

Another masterpiece. as ex military I'll admit there were numerous times I went "oorah" at sudden plot twists. curries love and mastery of this genre is second to none. He is the true Warrior King.

If you have read the other books in the series then this one won't disappoint you. If you haven't, then what are you waiting for? go read them.

My only regret is that I now have to wait for the next book to come out. I usually wait for two so that I can binge my way through more than one at a time.

This story covers the people who attack just to give their peons reason not to rebel. They care not about committing genocide along the way, indeed they see it and the loss of life as a seeming jest. Humanity and earth allies fight these folk with all of the intelligence and imagination they can. A good take with interesting characters.

The epic story continues with great battles and great a philosophical soliloquy, or two. The Commodore is both an excellent military tactician and a philosopher-poet. Couldn't put this down near the end and I'm already eager to read the next instalment. Well down Evan Currie. Having read all the Odyssey novels, I will have to take look at your others.

Finally! The start of the real story. Much like the “Lensmen” series by “Doc” Smith. When this series continues I believe we are in for a real treat. Maybe the war between “gods” or something akin. Hope to see the continuation sooner than later. Wow what a read...Cannot say that this series is for the faint of heart but suggest that teens would find it enjoyable.

One of the best epic science fiction authors writing today!
Read this series from the beginning and you will not be disappointed.
Earth and her allies must continue innovative tactical space warfare against a massive enemy empire. Behind the scenes are galactic entities who have other plans.

This was an enjoyable book, as Evan has delivered another enjoyable chapter in the story.

The character development and storyline are good, though not as much as some of the previous installments. Minor editing flaws, but no real show stoppers.

If you're new to the series, however, don't try to pick up from here. You will definitely want to start with the original Odyssey One (which is a great book following the re-edit and re-publication).

I enjoyed the new tech. Overall this was another good addition. I read it in a day or two. Not a lot of character depth, just space ships and space battles with a little intrigue mixed in. Definitely more about the tech than the people. I wanted more from the entities.

The rise and fall of the Roman Empire. Nero fiddled while Rome burned, still duty to an ideal was greater than the cynical views of Roman nobility. The were some real pearls of wisdom thank you for some great military SF.
