This book has something for everyone. I have not been a big Stephen King fan so I thought I'd start with some short stories to test the waters. Each story is very different and yet I have yet to find one that wasn't a page turner. If you want to get a taste of the different styles of Stephen King, this book is a great starting point.

For those of us that love collections of short stories, This is an excellent book. Typical Stephen King style. There was not one story that I didn't enjoy. I stand by my statement in other King reviews. "Stephen King is the Man!!"

All the enjoyment of a Stephen King book compressed into a bite sized length for quick enjoyment. And vignettes about the genesis of the story idea quite interesting. A wonderful example of the dying art of the short story.
My Descent Into Death: A Second Chance at Life :: but First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall :: Kingston (Four Fathers Book 2) :: Roulette Redux (Black Light Series Book 7) - Black Light :: Blockade Billy

The short stories in this anthology are classic Stephen King. But, for me, a long-time King reader, they seem a little repetitive and much like his other, better stories. Good book for someone just getting into King.

The stories were engaging, authentic and enthralling however just as I was in to the crux of it the story would end. I get the point of a short story but it's just a pity they are so short, a lot of them could be great novels.
Anyway, it's still worth the read and since it's SKs personal projects it makes it all the more special.

after reading the first two short stories I realized I head read this book while on vacation over 10 years ago. It should be a telling sign how engaging a writer Stephen King is, or was that I still felt compelled to finish the book greedily turning each page. These stories, while well written seem to me like not fully realized ideas that he had therefore none of the stories have a real sense of closure so if that bothers you that would be the only reason to skip this book.

Just as wonderful as everything he writes . I have seen the movie a zillion times, so it was very interesting to finally read the story and make comparisons with the special features found on the dvd. It is really interesting to learn why certain changes are made when a book is made into a movie.

The stories vary somewhat in quality. Most are good, a couple are great, and one or two are amazing. If you like the Dark Tower series, you should pick up this book.
The Little Sisters of Eluria and Everything's Eventual are part of the Dark Tower world. Getting the back story that you read about in the DT series adds to the enjoyment.
Riding the Bullet and 1408 are both pretty good.
But, the best story in the book is The Man in the Black Suit. A tight story that builds up quickly. This story alone is worth the price of admission. But make sure you read the rest too.
