Sisters are special, but often personalities bring conflicts. This author made them real and it was heat warming as again they become family. The setting is magical and I hope there is a sequel for Tyra, Lydia, and Maureen. Enjoy.

The Inheritance is a strong debut novel with lots of potential and heart. It tells the story of three estranged sisters who mysteriously inherit a run-down beach house in a quirky Oregon town. As they come together to repair the home, the sisters also must fix what is broken in their relationship and in their own lives. The characters are appealing (once the house begins to work its magic) and well-drawn, and the story carries a refreshing sense of optimism. You will find yourself rooting for these sisters and come away smiling.

Nice feel good story, but, SPOILER, author never explains how Tyra accumulated enough money to pay off medical bills for two people and buy the house from the estate. This lack of verisimilitude spoiled the book for me.
The gripping Sunday Times bestseller now with an explosive new ending! :: The Six Wives of Henry VIII :: Henry V (Dover Thrift Editions) :: The Reader (The Immortal Series Book 1) :: A Book that Changes Lives by Dan Millman (2012-12-28)

I was disappointed the characters weren't better developed. When I finished the book I was not disappointed it was done. I was disappointed that I spent my time reading a pseudo little house on the prairie rather than something of interest that had some complexity and twists.

The author is right...a good story is entertaining, and if it takes place at the beach it's even better!
Three sisters raised in the same family but as different and as separated as can possbibly be. But who can't relate? I sure can, the oldest of 3 sisters, I found myself nodding so much i felt like a bobble head! Hostetter got inside the head of each of her characters and lured you into forming opinions, only to have understanding and compassion bloom fully by the end of the book.
Maureen, Lydia and Tyra 'inherit' a beach house. Each woman has her own reasons for wanting to explore the possibilities of restoring the place.. be it to sell or to share. Ultimately, unbelieveably they come together as a cohesive, loving, hard-working unit....a family.

i loved this book ... finished it within 24 hours, couldn’t put it down. the characters were well written + relateable at least to me ... i saw pieces of myself in all three of them throughout different phases of my life. the setting was amazing, i could imagine being there with them ... the oregon coast is one of my favorite places so that was a treat. the old house was a character in itself ... and

*** SPOILER ***

i totally teared up when dilly saw elizabeths ghost in the upstairs window !!! outstanding !!!!!!

some reviewers mention questions being unanswerd ... maybe read the book more thouroughly next time ? i think heidi tied everything up in a tidy little circle ... esp with zachary ... charlies story was beginning again ... full circle. so perfect !!! as for how tyra got so much money ? read between the lines ... she is super smart / gifted even ... as we meet her she is finishing a job on her computer + is paid anonymously ... maybe she is a techie wizard or possibly a hacker even who knows ?? we don’t need absolutely every single detail spelled out do we ?? that’s where our own imaginations kick in !

anyway fantastic book. my only two criticisms would be one that i wanted the book to keep going because i loved it which really isn’t criticism at all !! and two which has been mentioned the editing was ridiculously bad ... did anyone proof read this lol ?!! tyras vw was yellow in the beginning then it was blue !! did she paint it haha maybe anyway i looked past the mistakes but there were weirdly alot if them. but the book was still awesome + i want more please !!! great job heidi !! XX

ps if you’re a fan of sarah addison allen i think you’ll love this !!

Maureen, Lydia and Tyra are three sisters who haven't been in touch for years are forced together via a mysterious inheritance. The relationship between the three sisters is agonizingly distant and filled with past regrets and anger. All three have old wounds that have festered over the years, and the lack of trust and safety between them is painful to read. They are left a house that is in need of lots of repair with not quite enough money to fix it up without doing a lot of work themselves. The house is a character in its own right, lovingly portrayed and a metaphor for the sister's relationships. The house is beat up, partitioned in ugly ways, neglected. As the sisters work on bringing the house back to its former glory, they manage to find ways to repair the broken foundations of their lives.

I received this book for free and am voluntarily reviewing it.
At first this book was kind of hard to get into but I kept reading and am so glad I did.
This book is so reviting and has many surprises.
The characters are so believable and face their own problems.
The plot was very good as it showed real family problems and troubles.
The twists in the plot kept me reading until I finished it.
I couldn't put it down!
This is a story that will keep you captivated.
You will laugh and cry throughout.
The ending was great.
I am anxious to read more.
Thank you .

A story about three estranged sisters who get the opportunity to get to know each other again and the meaning of family. Hostetter's writing grabs the reader and pulls them into the world she creates, with vivid descriptions and humor. She makes you laugh, cry, and cheer for the sisters as they get reacquainted and reminds you that family is worth fighting for.

The Inheritance is a story about three estranged sisters and their struggle to re-unite as a family while restoring a beach house they inherited. Maureen, the oldest, is looking for a place where her family can escape for vacation from the hectic restaurant world that they live in. Lydia, entrenched in debt, wants to sell the house to satisfy the creditors banging down her door. Tyra, the youngest, has a successful tech business and nomadic, looking for a place to settle down.
Set on the Oregon coast, one of my favorite placed on earth, these three women battle the elements of a coastal Northwest spring and each other while restoring a “stately three-story Victorian with a gabled roofline” and wrap-around porch.
To quote a line from The Man From Snowy River, “One of life’s greatest injustices is that you can’t choose your own relatives.” Heidi Hostetter shows us the complicated and miraculous relationships that can only belong to sisters. She intertwines theses three women with quirky town-folk and I found myself feeling as though I was walking the streets of Inlet Beach (aka Cannon Beach?) alongside them. The characters still haunt me months after having read the book. Thank you Heidi for creating a wonderful world.

The story was light and fine, but the proof reading/grammatical errors was dismal. Missing words, incomplete sentences, subject/verb agreement. I'm a bit of a grammar geek, but event those who aren't would miss a word from a sentence. Ideally I would have been lost in this fiction, but the consistent errors would snap me out of my fictional state and remind me that the author and editors/proof readers didn't do a good job of providing a clean, expertly edited book for readers to enjoy.
