Great Little Golden Book - I wish there were more female superhero books like this one to choose from! The storyline follows Wonder Woman and Batgirl try to defend against Poison Ivy. My 3 year old is really enjoying this one right now. The typical comic humor is inserted throughout. It goes over our 3 year old's head but entertains us while reading it.

First, I want to clarify that I love more representation of women in superhero books. My daughter is a fan of Wonder Woman and it is very difficult to find books that have her as a main character, so I like that this book places not only her, but also Batgirl and Poison Ivy in the main roles.
Having said that my daughter found the ending a bit disturbing and started wondering what was going to happen to Poison Ivy. Spoiler alert: Poison Ivy ends up in a really bad position, and I found it a bit troubling that Wonder Woman and Batgirl just laugh it off and leave her in her agony. Wonder Woman in particular cares about everyone and I can't imagine her leaving anyone suffering, even the bad guys/girls. She would have done everything in her power to try to rescue Poison Ivy from becoming a tree. Being a superhero is more than just stopping bad guys/girls, but it is about showing more compassion for fellow human beings. It is about sacrificing your self-interest to make sure others are safe.

There is a serious absence of girl superhero stories. I rated this probably higher than it deserves, but I have to give some credit for actually making a book of girl superheroes. I can say, this was enjoyed by my 4 year old.

Cute illustrations. Finally a super girl book I can share with my daughters. Oldest daughter was very concerned about Poison Ivy being left growing into a tree. I had to say that they came back and saved her later. Kind of a creepy ending when you think about it.

It was great to find anything that was Winder Woman in a book, not just comics. The book is ok, but a bit flimsy and very simple story. My five year old daughter enjoyed it. I don't like the illustrations very much, with the super skinny waists, unnaturally long let's and so on.

My daughter loves superheros. The problem is most of the stories focus on the mail superheros and if their is a female heroin, she's usually there for support. My daughter only registered one female superhero (Wonder Woman) no matter how many times I tell her there are others. The problem is, most examples I manage to obtain have more mature artwork. I found this book and one other. This one actually had a story and my daughter loved it. She finally acknowledges Bat Girl as a superhero (thanks to this book) and my hope is refreshed and I'm now looking for more books of this type again. Can we have more of these please with more heroins other than just WonderWoman (although she is one of my favorites).

Best Wonder Woman book out there for smaller kids. My 4.5 yo and 1.5 yo pull it off the shelf EVERY DAY. PLEASE, PLEASE make more of these, LGB! We will buy them all! Also wish someone would make a tv show using this type of storyline and imagery. I'm so supportive of my girls being into WW, but they are not at all ready (will they ever be?) for the violence of most of the WW stuff out there, not to mention the too-sexy style of illustration. Let's all support this effort to make WW accessible to littles in a positive, inspiring, and fun way!

The problem is that, despite that the cover art would lead you to believe the story heavily involves Wonder Woman, she may as well be Batgirl's sidekick. Though both are chasing Poison Ivy, it feels like the story oscillates between forcibly including Wonder Woman (her magical bracelets deflecting cacti thorns that weren't going to hurt Batgirl anyway, for example) and forgetting her altogether.
So if you have a little Batgirl fan, this book is for you. If you have a Wonder Woman fan like me, she'll enjoy seeing her favorite super heroine in action, but won't get much from the story.
Parental sidenote: I get that in the old comics Wonder Woman always managed to end up with her hands and feet tied in comic-bondage. Use of that imagery in this book (see Customer Photos) when Wonder Woman is bound, legs pulled apart and chest thrust out, is an homage. However, it's 2014; can we not empower Diana just a little more? Maybe skip the bondage scene, at least in books aimed at little girls? Thanks, Golden Books.
