"Love on Her Own Terms" by Carol Colyer
Oh, my what an adventure... from cover to cover. If you are reading this review, then you read the blurb and are trying to decide if you really want to read this story. Well, I vote yes to reading this story. In my opinion.. and since this is my review... who else's opinion would it be? If you like clean sweet Western Romance with lots of adventures for the stars of the tale then I will expect you to enjoy your time with this story as much as I did mine. You definitely will want to keep turning those pages to see what happens next. Oh, I was gifted a copy of this story and what a good gift it was. I thank the giver of this gift.

First, I heard about this book through a Christian site. Wrong. This was not written by a Christian or they left their Christianity at the door when they wrote this.

Second, Christian theme or not, it was not well written. When I read books like this, I always wonder how they made it this far.

The story was poor, the editing wasn't any better - open quotations, missing quotations, misspelled words, misused names and so on. Too much was jammed into the book, causing poor character development. This book could have easily been broken out into two books if the author had taken the time to create instead of rush and "tell" you a quick story.

I don't read a lot of historical and this is why. I will not be reading anything else from this author. There are too many others out there that are much better.

Instead of building up to love from the start, this story starts you off by introducing characters, but only partially. There is deceit and lies from the beginning and then the untangling of webs begins. There are a lot of twists and turns. One character in particular, Ringgold, remains a mystery until the end. Great read!

I received a free copy of this book so that I could give a fair and honest review.

I have just started reading these Western romances. I am falling in love with them. I love the strength that the women in these stories have. Love on Her Own Terms was absolutely a delight to read. I loved all the characters. I read this book in two days. If you want to read a good book to get away from it all for a while then this is the book for you. Can't wait for the next one.

A well written Western Mail-Order Bride novel with somewhat of a twist. The characters are well written and she even throws in some well known names from the past. My first book from Carol Colyer and I was not disappointed. Definitely looking forward to more from her. A must read.

Awesome mail order bride book! So much more than the traditional. If you like history with a love story, it's a must read. This is the first time I have read a book by Carol Colyer. Great story, great writing. Thank you Carol!

I enjoyed reading this novel. The characters were well developed. I've visited Tombstone, AZ so the description of the area brought many happy memories. This story pretty much covers it all, blood, greed, forgiveness, love, commitment, honor, and more.

Overall the story line is good. In the beginning, I find the characters of Kathleen and Dan confusing and somehow weak. I can't believe that Dan and Kathleen's marriage will be not consummated for several months despite sleeping together just because of Dan's fear from a previous experience, that of his mother's death while giving birth to his brother.
A surprise line in this story is the presence of a ballroom or conservatory in Dan Gallagher's ranch designed by his father for his late mother.
I like the part where Doyle was able to redeem his hateful character when he shot Ringgod and saved Kathleen. I also like the Extended Epilogue where Kathleen returned to Boston, met her parents and forgave them.

A wonderful and exciting story of a young woman who takes charge of her future.
When Kathleen finds out her parents have taken it upon themselves to promise her in marriage to an older man for their benefit she plots a way to escape. From this she has a
Very exciting and somewhat dangerous adventure where she finally finds the life and love she seeks. This is a book I would recommend if you enjoy intrigue and adventure.

I loved this book. It has everything that I enjoy because it crosses into different genres. Love, suspense, murder, betrayal and the list goes on!

There are books that catch your interest at the beginning and this is one of them. I believe you will enjoy this book because it is not exactly like any other book you have read.

This is by far a completely different mail order bride book than I’m use to reading. So much happening to a young woman escaping a marriage to a man way too old for her. There is so many twist and turns that it kept me captivated and wanting to read just one more chapter before I put it down.

I truly enjoyed the story of Kathleen and Dan. Their journey to each other was twisted and fraught with danger and confusion from different sides. I was a bit confused with Kathleen’s name changes but that was sorted out as I read more. My one concern was the first couple of chapters had some errors that needed editing. Other than that, the book was very enjoyable.

Loved this story…even though one of the situations seemed high improbable…it did not detract from the plot. There were a lot of twists and turns to add excitement to this tale. And it kept me turning the pages wanting to find out what happens next.

Kathleen O'Shea and her best friend Siobhan are going to the Boston Conservatory of Music at the age of 14 and are among the first women to graduate 4 years later! What a great accomplishment! What she never expects is that her parents have basically sold her to her patron to relieve some debts they owe the man she has always known as Uncle Elias. Well she realizes that she is not going to give up her dream of following her heart to find love. Especially when she finds out he wanted to marry her at 13! He would have been 49 at the time! She can only look at him as a "leacher" after finding out! So she and her best friend search for a way for her to get out of this mess her parents have created. She becomes a mail order bride and as such her adventure begins! On her way to meet her new husband Dan Gallagher her adventure becomes much more than she could ever have expected! On her way to Arizona she meets Jim Ringgold - when seems to have become obsessed by her. Then there is Dan's brother Doyle. Oh so many things that to get the best from, you will need to experience by reading this wonderfully written book by Carol Colyer.

This is one of the best historical, western, romance books, I have ever read. Kathleen O'Shea was a gifted graduate of the Boston Conservatory and the first woman. She was sponsored by her "uncle" Elias Appleton. He was an elderly family friend of her parents, not a real uncle. Without letting her knowing, they had promised her hand in marriage to him. Kathleen began to make plans to run away by answering a mail order bride letter from Rancher, Dan Gallagher in the Arizona Territory. She changed her name to Katln McKenna and taking the large amount of money he sent her, to get a ticket, a new wardrobe, and saved about half of the money to use later. This went pretty smoothly; but from the arrival, everything went wrong. This book has many twist, turns, and lots of drama. I loved this book.

When Kathleen found out her parent had basically sold her off as a bride to a friend ? of her father who was of course old enough to be her father she felt betrayed. Looking for escape, she answers a mail order bride ad and travels to Arizona to meet her intended Dan. But...Dan isn't Dan but Doyle his younger brother and this plot just keeps twisting. Because a good deal of this story is in around Tombstone, AZ we meet with the Earp brothers and Wyatt's friend Josephine. These were trying times for Kathleen. Running from her family she's changed her name and it seems that most everybody has something to hide. This author does a great job keeping the suspense and challenges up for the characters and working through all the issues. I really enjoyed the book. It took a while for Kathleen to get love on her own terms but its worth the wait.

I recieved this book free for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this GREAT book. A young lady named Kathleen turned 18 only to find out she had been promised to a man more than twice her age since she was 13 years of age. TO escape Boston, the marriage and her parents she answered an add to become a mail order bride in Arizona and to find love on her own time.

This is like a read out of history. Including the Earps and the town of Tombstone. I just don't figure how Kathleen could have been so weak to marry Doyle when she figured out that he was not Dan. But happiness comes to the main characters. Keep up the great work.
