Never thought healthy food could taste this good. This book is for those who have trouble staying trim. Great information from Dr. John McDougall and great recipes from Mary McDougall. Try the vegetable chilli, (tip I rinse canned beans to make it easier). Other favorites are "Fried" Rice and the oriental salad. This book is well worth getting and sharing.

No hunger, no thinking about food all day -- only positive results -- immediately. This doctor has been promoting this program for years, so why isn't everyone who wants to lose weight and get healthier jumping on board? Dr. McDougall should be on national television each and every day until all hear his plan. It's fantastic! The book is well written, logical and easy to follow. Five stars is not enough -- this should have at least ten stars to share how important the message content is.

I first purchased this book as a last ditch attempt. I had tried everything and work out at least 4 times a week. Switching to a vegetarian diet helped me lose weight but I couldn't go beyond a plateau. Switching to a vegan diet did nothing for me. I was desperate. So I bought this book and immediately after reading the first few pages, I threw it aside and said it was "too restrictive for me". But after changing my workout routine to a very difficult bootcamp, I still wasn't seeing any results so I finally gave in and read the entire book. I remember one testimonial in the book where the lady said "give it 12 days" and if you don't like it and don't feel better, you stop. So I figured I couldn't lose anything (but weight) in 12 days. Within the first week, I went down 5lbs. The following week and since then has been 2lbs on average. I've had days and weeks where I have cheated and my weight has remained constant. But when I abide by it, I see wonderful results. This diet really does work! And now that I'm doing more research of the science behind it, I understand that it's the way that we should be eating for life! (Granted once I'm done, I will be adding back my nuts and avocados). But no oil, salt, sugar and flour is truly the key to a healthy vegan diet. I'm so glad I purchased the book because now it's opened up a whole new world health information for me! I only used the recipes for ideas. For the most part, I cooked with whatever vegies and grains were in my fridge/pantry. I used old recipes and adapted them. It's been a very delicious culinary journey and I can't see myself going back (especially now that I start to feel sick every time I eat something else).

I thought this book would be about healthy eating, but as I've skimmed through the Staples list, the menus and recipes, I am shocked to see the huge list of processed foods recommended in the meal plan. I don't buy or eat it! How can this be a good way to lose weight if you consume GMO foods that are processed? Why eat packaged foods with additives and preservatives? I'll stick to my fresh, organic home cooked foods, thanks.

After reading 'The China Study' by T. Colin Campbell, I was looking for information on how to follow a whole foods, plant based diet. Dr Mcdougall explains this wonderfully in his book. He gives step by step instructions on how to maximise weightloss, whilst eating healthy, unprocessed foods making it simple to understand & follow. He also communicates a lot of medical information regarding disease & diet. I have been following his recommendations for 1 week, I have lost some weight & feel terrific.

I found the book very helpful and encouraging. Some may prefer a more succinct version, but if you are wavering or discouraged about how to improve your health, this book provides "cheerleading" along with practical changes you can make. If you can afford to throw or give away all of the off-limit foods in your house and start clean, it will be easier. I share space with another person so I can't force them to get rid of goodies. Still, I am finding it easier over time to make the right choices.

I have enjoyed reading this book and turn to it whenever I feel tempted to sway off the program. I also love the recipes. The Sweet Pea Guacamole was gone within a day!

A great book that answers many questions that I've had for years. If you're dieting and wondering why you can't keep the weight off, or you're on a plant based diet and can't seem to hit your goal weight, this is the book to read.

The book explains many things that I did not know. I like the stricter diet for loosing, but found some of the ingredients repetitious. So, like the book suggest, I improvise with different allowable items. Being stricter, I found the diet is easier to stay on and I am satisfied. If you feel like cheating, I suggest for you to eat another piece of fruit, (instead of only two, like the book says.) L.Dowen

After reading Dr. McDougall's book and following his clearly written guidelines I'm rarely hungry and eat as much as I want without guilt, while losing weight. I also exercise. It's all here. Why experiment with your health? Everything you need to know about diet, nutrition, desease prevention and how to eat for the rest of your life is here in this clearly written and well researched book. You'll learn that populations that eat less meat also have less cancer and heart desease.

There is interesting information in the book, though I do not like the way they list their recipes. They may refer to a recipe in their diet plan, but then you have to go through every page to find it and one time the recipe was not there. It is worth buying it though, one just needs to be extra patient with this book. Should have been organized better for quick look up. I suggested it to a friend, and she loves the recipes.

My doctor recommended the "McDougall" books as a way of losing weight and getting healthy. He sure knew what he was talking about! I've lost some weight (I refuse to weigh myself on a daily basis) as my clothes are getting loose. That's what counts!

This is basically a vegan diet plan. I started on the 12-day plan and this is more liberal eating plan, but results, if you follow it, can't help but follow. I have tried all types of diets, from Weight Watchers, South Beach, diet pills, etc. This one works. I would recommend it.

DR. McDougall knows what he is talking about. There are many out there who are not MDs telling others about health and nutrition but this guy has researched, tested, and knows what he is saying. If you want health and you want weight loss this book is for you. It goes against the regular weight loss feed that we hear everywhere. This book helped me learn what it takes for health and what to eat to reach health.

Another education book. I learned a lot from this book. The recipe section was a little convoluted and many of the recipes required a lot of different ingredients. I found prepping large batches ahead of time, helped. And amazingly, I lost weight without even trying or without getting hungry. It's a great place to start, if you are looking to make a change.

This way of eating fulfills all nutritional requirements except for B12. The starches, legumes, veggies and fruits are full of phytonutrients and antioxidants and fiber, resulting in a satisfying satiety. Bottom line is a guarantee you will lose weight, cholesterol numbers, blood sugars and blood pressure will normalize. Dr. McDougall has a website with discussion forums of healthy eating on his plan.
