There is something particularly gratifying when an American born and raised child of immigrant parents adopts as her mission the continuation of the culinary traditions of her family's homeland. Debbie Matenopoulos' "It's All Greek to Me" is an outstanding manifestation of such an effort.

Having grown up in Chicago, where I was fortunate to have easy access to the myriad restaurants in the city's Greek Town, I have long been partial to Greek food. It was the driver behind more than one trip to Greece, something which I am no longer able to manage with any frequency. Fortunately, I love to cook, and with Ms. Matenopoulos' book, I can now enjoy the Greek dishes and delicacies which I've long savored.

The recipies are the same as those used by Matenopoulos' relatives and ancestors going back for a century. They are easy to follow and prepare, and as authentic as anything I've had in any Greek restaurant or home I've visited. The photographs are lush, colorful, and exquisite. Much as a Pavlovian bell, they are quick to spark an appetite and craving for the phenomenal dishes Debbie included in the book. That she focuses on the healthy aspects of a Mediterranean diet is a bonus for all who take the time to prepare her delicious recipes. A great place to start is her Spanakopita--Spinach Cheese Pie. It is life changing! Best to prepare two full recipes at a time...or you'll find yourself regretting that you didn't.

"It's All Greek to Me" makes Greek food easy, approachable and eminently manageable at home. With the bounties of summer farmers' markets and fresh caught seafood on our doorstep, I simply cannot think of a better way to plan my meals for the coming months than to sample Debbie's recipes, one by one.

My girlfriend is 100% Greek but second Gen so her family is always giving her a hard time about cooking more often (they are in general, great, wonderful people). So she hosted a party and invited the entire family and surprised her mom by cooking this huge Greek meal using this cookbook. Apparently everything in there is impressively authentic in a way that you just don't see. It's like a secret tomb of hidden Greek goodness.

Anyway, the meal was great, my girlfriend was the hero, and she used this book.

She's been using the book since the surprise party. All of a sudden she's making better-than-restaurant quality Spanakopita, lamb, and stuff bell-peppers. It's awesome. Thanks Debbie Matenopoulos!

Nothing special. I was expecting more to be quite honest. I'm allergic to many foods in the book. It seems to be redundant. I was excited to read the book after having seen her on The View. The food looked very good and everyone was gobbling it up. Not this family. I will try to adapt some of the recipes to my family's dietary needs. I do like Debbie Matenopoulos.

This is a lovely cookbook. It has fabulous photos of the food and of people and places in Greece. There are cooking tips and ingredients explanations and little stories about Greece and it's cuisine interspersed among the recipes. Many of the recipes seem labor intensive and/or have rather exotic ingredients, but others seem quite simple. The recipes are well-written and easy to follow. If you want to cook authentic Greek dishes, this is the cookbook for you! I highly recommend it.

I love cooking but usually stick to Italian dishes. When I saw this book on the store, the pictures and the food looked so amazing that I had to give Greek food a try. Honestly, looking through the book all of the dishes were so beautifully presented and photographed that I didn't know where to start. So I've just been working my way through, and everything has turned out delicious so far.

This is definitely a must-have cookbook for anyone that likes to try new things.

The recipes are easy and authentic.....brings me back to my childhood and my YaYa's cooking. The whole roasted chicken is AMAZING! I especially like the narrative that speaks to the Greek culture and how food and the preparation and serving of food fits into the Greek way.

Let me just start by saying I have never reviewed anything I have ever purchassed from the store. But after my girlfriend and I bought this book and tried some of the recipe's I felt I had no choice. We cook all the time and have shelves full of cookbooks. But this is the most comprehensive and complete book on Greek homecooking I have ever read. Not only are all the recipes perfect to feed the entire family but they are also equally perfect for just two people. Debbie's "Horta" recipe is absolutely mouth watering. I prefer the taste to kale and I have heard it is even more healthy for you. I could go on and on about the book but I will just say that the only thing better then the beautiful pictures of Debbie Matenopoulos are the well thought out and delicious Greek recipes. I can't wait for summer so I can cook for all my family and friends.

I purchased the cookbook after seeing Debbie appear on The View. I was totally surprised by the quality of the book and how simple the recipes were to follow and how FABULOUS the food tasted. One of the dishes that truly stood out that I made was the leg of lamb it was amazing.
