True stories about historical figures have always been interesting to me but some depictions result in sleep inducing renditions that need to be slogged through to completion. The way Mr. Beck and his staff have compiled, enhanced and embellished on these historic lives and events, yet remaining true to fact, make them very exciting and enjoyable to read and understand. Thank you Mr. Beck for producing this book.

This book is an easy and entertaining read - It is a very well written historical novel, with complete references at the end of the book regarding history and writer's narrative for ___every___ chapter. This book covered much of what is commonly known (e.g. Edith Wilson's running of the White House) and some new items (e.g. President Glover Cleveland). It covers a whole gamut of personnel, from politicians to inventors, from con-men to gentlemen.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Listed as a novel because of the imagined dialogue between characters, it is very interesting historically. I had heard some before, but written in story format made it more approachable and real. It is interesting to me how those who deceive think that it's for our own good, better to tell a lie than let the truth cause panic. Some things never change. I enjoyed it very much, highly recommended.

This is an excellent compilation of true stories about dreamers and deceivers in American history. Among the many excellent stories, one of my favorites is how Desi Arnaz changed the history of television by insisting on filming, in a very professional way, episodes of "I Love Lucy" instead of performing live. Although very expensive, this changed the future direction of television, and was a major improvement. The story on the history of radio is also very compelling.

Very interesting stories dealing with events that most people are not aware of..This is American history and not everybody was a hero or a good guy. The writing style can seem a bit awkward at times but is easily readable.

My kind of book, stories of behind the scenes history of the likes of Carlos Ponzi "Ponzi scheme", the inventor of the modern radio and how he received no credit, and my favorite story about "The Lucy Show", and the making of Walt Disney and Disney World. These stories are like 40 pages each

this is an amazing "history". Wonderful stories presented in an interesting way. If history had been presented in this fashion when I was in school, I might have made better grades and loved the subject more. Thank you Mr. Beck.

For anyone who has had trouble reading about and staying interested in history this is a must have. Mr. Beck puts you right in the middle of the story life you were helping to craft history. Awsome!

I loved this book because it tells the real stories of some very fascinating people. Good or bad, all of these people were doers. They accomplished many wonderful things, some not so wonderful i.e. Ponzi, Hiss, etc. It's all very inspiring and interesting. I highly recommend this book to those who like history but don't like to read a non fictional book. It reads like a novel but tells the true stories of some incredible people. I really enjoyed the chapters about Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, and John Lasseter. I hope you enjoy them too!

Like the title says, these are stories about true historical events, good as well as bad, that need to be told; stories of good things that those manipulators of public opinion who constantly berate the USA would like to bury, as well as stories of shameful things that need to be exposed so that we who are lovers of truth can learn how to prevent them from being repeated. This is history presented in a way that is interesting & engaging, & therefore memorable.

Even with all the negative aspects of our countries history and the different stories and characters depicted in Glens book, what comes out of it is the positive, purposeful hearts minds and souls that once made and can still make this country the greatest in the world.

Loved this book. The short stories made for a great quick read when I didn't have a lot of time. There was a lot of stories that I never heard about and loved finding out about these different stories from history.

Wonderfully told stories. Especially enjoyed the chapter on Alan Turing and the possible connection to Apple's logo. It would have been just like Steve Jobs to have done this as a way of paying tribute to the father of the computer. Looking forward to the movie as a result

Awesome book, a deeper look into some of the people that impacted our history, perspectives that were not brought to light in school days history classes. Often there are parallels to be drawn with current events. I recommend this book to everyone that has even the most remote curiosity about American history! Would make a great gift!

As a history major in college, these stories reveal very important details I never saw in class! A great book for people who are willing to have some or their old heroes go down in flames and especially for those who love to read about NEW unknown heroes who deserve the recognition that Glenn has uncoverd. TRUTH is good medicine.
