Todd Parr makes feelings accessible and understandable to youngsters, and isn't that the perfect time to learn and embrace ALL the feelings we humans experience? Todd makes them normal and fun at the same time.

Good book for pre-schoolers. My grandsons enjoyed figuring out the feelings of the characters by looking at the expressions on their faces before I told them what that feeling was. They also name things that would make them feel the same way. Then they imitate that face.

Although this book was colorful and cute, to say it is a book about feelings is inaccurate. Yes, there were a couple of feelings. But children need to learn the difference between thoughts and feelings, and this was more about thoughts than feelings.

My son had some expressive language delays and this book really helped him to understand feelings and how to express them himself. He loves it and still asks me to read it to him a couple times a week. It is a great book

The grands enjoy practicing the faces and understand more about the connection to their own emotions.
They enjoy 'reading' Todd's books over and over and I appreciate the level of interest has not faded as they get older.

The illustrations in this book are fun, but if you are looking for a book to teach your kid about emotions, this is not the book for you. There are a few emotions included (scared, brave, cranky, lonely, and silly), but most of the "feelings" are more about wanting to do certain activities. These include things like "Sometimes I feel like eating pizza for breakfast." and "Sometimes I feel like kissing a sea lion." It's cute, but it's not what I expected from a book called "The Feelings Book."

If you are looking for a book to teach your baby/toddler about emotions, I highly recommend the Playschool book "Baby Faces" (sorry it is not currently available on the store, so I can't include a link, but the ISBN is 0525455450, if you search for that, it will come up, and there may be used copies available). For toddlers and young children I recommend "Big Feelings" (available through the Talaris Institute Parenting Counts, not the store) as well as the series by Marcia Leonard including "I Feel Sad," "I Feel Scared," "I Feel Angry," and "I Feel Happy" (again, can't post a link, but if you search for the author + title, they come up). The Talaris Institute (Parenting Counts) also has a board book of baby emotions, but I haven't seen it and can't recommend it.

Edited to add that I did end up purchasing the Baby Feelings book from Parenting Counts and it is excellent.

I have used this book as a clinician working with young kids and now with my own 2 year old. Yes, as the complaints point out, this is not a 'train your kid to recognize a specific interpretation/facial expression of common feelings' type of book. For that, Todd Parr's Feelings Flashcards are better suited.

This book is colorful and fun just like all of his books. The book presents some labeled feelings such as scared and lonely and at other times, situations are depicted that invoke certain feelings. For example, on one page a boy is crying after his ice cream fell on the ground. These are discussion moments for me that build empathy in my son. My 2 year old and I talk about the feelings and words that come to mind from the scenes and some resonate more than others. As kids get older, these feelings and situations become more well understood and in my experience this is a good book for ages 2-6 (capable of simple abstract thought).

Love all Todd Parr books. Wish there was a picture of Bully at the end like in the family book. My daughter really likes Bully and looks forward to seeing his picture. Haha. Fantastic book even for beginning readers and younger. Animations are great as well.

Love Todd books! Really accessible way to approach different feelings. Saw another reviewer said book isn't about emotions. I would disagree. I think it's just as useful to be able to identify feelings outside happy, sad, etc. They are presented in this book in a playful and engaging way. I would recommend this book.
