I was really disappointed with this book. I love her other ones but this one fell short. She didn't paint the scenes as well as she usually does and it seemed like it was a hurried effort. I also felt the romance thread could have been built up more. At first the guy's an ass but she didn't really describe the attraction between them, it was just kinda sorta there at the end. I hope Kearsley's next one is more like her others.

I can't help it. I love Susanna Kearsley books. This was slightly different than others I have read, but I enjoyed it. I like her characters, and there are enough plot twists and turns to keep it from being a romance novel. Good writing.

Susanna Kearsley is a master storyteller. This latest book will not disappoint. Love how she weaves many details together past and present and brings all things to a resolution in the end. Delightful story and escape.

This was a very readable novel, similar in tone to The Winter Sea, also by Susanna Kearsley. I may read another of her books just to see if this plot and theme are consistent throughout most of her work .... the main character is usually a writer or a literary agent who goes off on a jaunt or mission of some kind, meets at least two (and sometimes three) interesting men, and then has to solve a mystery as to who is a good guy and who is a bad guy. In this book, Lyn (literary agent) accompanies her rather self-centered and flirtatious (read: annoying) client Bridget to Wales, for the purposes of a cozy Christmas holiday AND perhaps landing another big client. A mystery, based on Arthurian legend, quickly develops, and Lyn is "chosen" by circumstances and local mythology to champion the safety of a fair-haired toddler. The plot is absorbing, the writing is good, and the characters are fairly interesting.

I loved the warmth of the holiday preparations and the natural surroundings -- the coastal pathways, the historic sites, the flora and fauna, and the homespun simplicity of life on the farm where the writer James Swift lives. I was quite surprised, however, by the frequent references to the tender influences of the Christ child and the role of divine guidance in our lives. In reading a Christmas-themed novel I would expect one or two light and quick allusions to these themes, but Kearsley laid it on a bit thickly and fervently. In sections, it felt like Christian lit. I skimmed over these passages and did enjoy the mystery and romance aspects of the book. Not sure I'll go for a third, though.

Good story for a quick simple read. I love Kearsleys books for the detailed descriptions locales. She takes you deep into each place and it's easy to imagine everything from windy cliff's to old cottage. My only wish was that it wasn't so easy to predict where the story was headed or what was about to happen. But for an easy read with beautiful description, this is an amazing book.

Another great story from Susanna Kearsley. She never disappoints. While I was eager to find out the meaning of Lyn's dreams, I didn't want the story to end and have to say goodbye to her wonderful characters.

I really love Susanna Kearsly's stories...windswept moors, quaint towns, romance. I wasn't disappointed in Named by the Dragon -- now I have to wait for her next book. Ms. K books are well researched - her settings and characters reflect that. NBTD takes place in Wales and London's publishing world. At the heart of it is a mother coming to terms with deep loss and a reluctant playwright recluse opening his heart. ?❤️

I enjoyed this book. It was a little different than the previous books I read by this author but it did not disappoint. As usual she has two tracks--a present day story tied to something or a life in the past.

I love Susanna Kearsley, but I HATED this book. It was incredibly anticlimactic, and dull. I don't understand how it could possibly have been written by Susanna Kearsley. The characters were under developed and un-engaging. I couldn't connect with any of them, and the only two with whom I might have been able to connect (Owen and Elen) weren't developed enough. I can't fathom how this book could have received such a high rating other than it was supposedly authored by Susanna Kearsley. Please do NOT waste your money. I regret it, and if you like interesting books with relatable characters and a memorable plot line, so will you.

Wonderful book that kept me guessing and I never thought it was a mystery novel. Susanna Kearsley writes the best books and I have all of them so far. Book was new and arrived quickly for my reading enjoyment.

I like that the protagonists are clever, intelligent people. The mystery of an ancient tale entwined in a modern time is provoking. A love story based on fate that draws them together, not sexual exploit, is refreshing. I want a sequel.
