This little companion to Ms. Allen's "Lost Lake" accomplished its mission -- can't wait to read the full story. She has an easy writing style and knows how to engage the reader with her characters. I always recommend her books; they are whimsical and heartfelt - a perfect blend of magic and reality.

Best served with a favorite cup of sweet spicy tea, on a cold rainy Sunday morning, Sweet Poetry… As always, I've been left, wanting sooooooooooooo much more!

Your craft is truly the magic I so crave.

Thank you so very much, Ms. Allen!!!

For the complete novel, Lost Lake, yet it intrigues as all of the other Sarah Addison Allen's novels I have read. Kate's and Devin's story is just beginning, but feels magical already. Can't wait to read the rest.

First just let me say that I absolutely ADORE Sarah Addison Allen and I was highly anticipating the release of her new book, Lost Lake. This book, Waking Kate, is a delightful 'teaser' short story that lays some ground work for Lost Lake. If you haven't read this novella, be sure to! It will add another layer of enchantment to the larger novel. Utterly enchanting and full of magical quirkiness, Waking Kate will whet your appetite for me Sarah Addison Allen. Mmm Mmm good. :)

I. was really getting into this well written and interesting story. Two chapters and then that was it. Now I am left wondering what will happen to the widow Kate, and if her mother in law will run her life.

This is like an introduction into a book that will be published later. I don't understand how the mother-in-law can just waltz in after being disowned and take over or why the mother allowed her to do so.

The story engaged me from the start and I actually felt a little disturbed by the end. It also captured me enough so that I also downloaded the first chapter of the SAA new book to see what happened next.

This gentle author always manages to pack in to her stories plenty of interest, vulnerability and a bit of practical magic~ just to keep you on your toes! This tiny novella is meant to simply warm us up for the soon-to-be-released 'Lost Lake', and STILL manages to bring all the usual Allen sensibility to the table! I really enjoyed reading it, and found myself greatly anticipating 'Lost Lake'~ can't wait to read that one, too!

Very enjoyable, quick read. A definite teaser to her soon to be published new book. Made me want more. Sarah's characters are always so rich, deep and likable. I feel as if I know them and they are my friends.

I was a little confused about Waking Kate because it was a prequel to Lost Lake. This short story allows you an inside peek into the origin of Kate. The story was well written. The reason I gave it 4 stars was because it was unclear that only the beginning was going to be Waking Kate while the rest was the beginning to Lost Lake. I haven't started Lost Lake yet but am very excited to see what happens to Kate.

Sarah Addison Allen does it again. Waking Kate is a good short story that helps set up her book Lost Lake. But what really got me was the short preview for First Frost. The Waverly sisters are back in First Frost.
