The Bible itself is good, and it has creative ideas to teach Biblical points. However, it clearly says you can go to MyHandsOnBible.com for additional resources (ex. Family devotions, music, etc.), but when you go to the website it takes you to Group Publishing's website. It tries to sell you their Hands on Bible curriculum, but offers no additional resources like it advertises on the Bible. They removed the Bible reading plan and family devotions from this "updated" version of this Bible, and made you think you could still access this material online, but sadly that's not the case. Had I known this I wouldn't have purchased this Bible. It's disappointing to pay for something and realize it falsely advertised what comes with the product. I would not mind so much, but the child I bought it for was most excited about the family devotions and Bible reading plan because his church does not have a children's program, and he was looking forward to having something he could do at home.

My church's Sunday school requested this bible for the students. I browsed through it and it seemed easy to read and understand. I figured there are so many bibles to chose from yet this is the one that was requested so there must be a purposeful reason.

The revised edition of Tyndale Press' Hands-On Bible (NLT) was shipped to me a few weeks ago for review. I requested the bible for two reasons: I've never read from the New Living Translation and was curious to see it, and it looked like a must-have tool for anyone ever thinking about doing any bible-related activities with kids. As an often church volunteer and a one-day-to-be father, I thought this would be a nice addition to the plethora of other bibles lying around. As it turns out, I was correct.

The NLT was certainly much more approachable than the KJV, but I didn't feel it had the same mmph to it my ESV has. (That's not to say that I didn't like the translation, but I feel like it's something I would need to invest more time in than what I have for this review.) Some of the verses that I'm familiar with just sounded different and off while reading, but I enjoyed getting a new perspective on them. However, I definitely feel like the NLT is simpler than the ESV or NIV and that this translation would be perfect for children.

Activities galore cover the contents of the bible. Many of them are simple and require only common things found around the house. Some may take a little preparation, but none of them are very time consuming. These activities also really help draw real-world comparisons from text that was read, driving home the point and offering a way to help children remember a passage. The only qualm I have about these is that some are too short, but that can easily be remedied by expounding more on the passage through words or customizing the activity.

Overall, I really liked the Hands-On Bible. It's sleek design is attractive and fun looking, perfect for kids. The text is varying, using bold fonts and illustrations/side-boxes, which helps break up the monotonous look of most bibles. While this bible is not a beginner's bible, it's clearly the next step after, and I think most young readers would enjoy reading through God's Word in this way.

The Hands on Bible by Tyndale is a very appealing Bible that captures your eye because of the fun looking cover. Once you open the cover you realize that this Bible is exactly what the cover portrays Fun, Tyndale has taken the Bible and made it fun for youngsters to read.
No more hearing "I'm bored" when your child reads the bible because there are so many fun filled activites to keep them busy while teaching them Gods word that they will pick up this Bible on their own.
The Hands on Bible activities include science experiments, crafts, journaling etc that will let the child have fun while learning about God's word.
This Bible also has a Where to turn in my Bible section that is a great refrence for those times when children want to know what the bible might say about feeling they may be experiencing.
There are also maps, a dictionary/concordance along with a section titled Did You Know? that answers some frequently asked questions about the Bible.
Even though this Bible is geered for children 4-8 I think it is suitable for children up to 13. The only flaw that I saw at all was the extremely small print that is used, otherwise this is an excellent bible to begin building the foundation of life long bible reading in children.
I was provided a copy of this Bible by Tyndale to review but in no way did it alter my opinion of this Bible.

The Hands on Bible - NLT
Tyndale
Tyndale sent me the Hands on Bible to review. It is a complete bible with descriptions in the margins that help young readers understand more of the time frame and some customs in Bible times. Many of the side margins give ideas for sharing Jesus with friends and family, in ways that young people can do. It also has about 8 activities for young people and a friend to do. Best for 8-13 year olds.

There are Introductions to each Book with cool facts and info from that book. Hands on Experiences with ideas of things to do. Bible Bios with info about people in the bible, written as if it were straight from them. And Hands-On Bible activities (see the give away at bottom for more information).

This Bible is great when you are looking for extra ways to help explain points to kids, but I think it would be distracting for regular use. I particularly liked the information in the side bars!

*Note Tyndale sent me a copy of Hands on Bible for my family and a Bible certificate to be given away. All reviews on this bible are my own opinion, not those of the publisher or writers of this bible.

One of my first clues about anything geared towards kids is if my daughter claims it as her own. When I opened the envelope from Tyndale Publishers with my review copy of the Hands-On Bible, Hannah immediately took the book and ran to her room with it. She was drawn in by the colorful cover and the promise of fun that it proclaims.
I must say that I was quite surprised with the cleverness of the activities included within the text of the scripture. It is almost like having several object lessons interwoven throughout the Bible. Every experiment that we tried astounded me and really brought home the point that was being made. Each book has an introductory page that sends the reader on a treasure hunt in the book, pointing out stories that may easily be overlooked. The extra material at the end of the Biblical text includes Big Questions, Concordance/Dictionary, and maps among other useful information.
Hannah and I have started using this Bible with our home school work and have enjoyed the added depth and whimsy that this Bible has added to our lessons. The New Living Translation is a well written translation of the original Greek and Hebrew texts. I enjoy reading large portions of text, because of the ease of the language.
The Hands-On Bible is an excellent first Bible, but it is also a great Bible for anyone that wants to help bring a new understanding to the scripture through activities, experiments, and study.

Jesus taught with hands-on lessons and illustrations. The Hands-On Bible uses the same experience-based learning to communicate God's Word in an active, understandable way. This new edition features updated tip-ins, a more portable size for kids, an attractive cover, and online parenting helps. With hundreds of fun, memorable activities (A "Do-It" activity in EVERY feature!) and the full New Living Translation text, the Hands-On Bible is packed with activities and experiences that invite kids to crawl inside the Scriptures and "do" God's Word!

My Review:
We have several children's Bible's but the Hands On Bible is by far one of the BEST Children's Bible's I have ever seen or used. We are currently doing a Christian co-op with our homeschool group and I refer to the hands on activities quite frequently this Bible offers. We have done some of the craft suggestions this Bible offers as well! Not only does this Bible offer the Word of God but it's great for hands on activities to go with God's Word. My 2 boys are 3 and 5 and this is the Bible we have been using since I have been blessed for it to get into my hands!

The new Hands-On Bible in the New Living Translation is the hands down best adolescent Bible I've ever seen! I am beyond excited for the children who will be owners of this incredibly bound, fun-filled Word. Not only are the pages visually exciting, but they are filled with fun projects to do with your hands (crafts, science projects, snacks, activities). I think this idea will help put to memory the things in God's Word and also help the kids to see scriptures relevancy.

Another really great thing I've found are the 'Bible Bio's' from hero's like Abraham. There is even a section that explains the Old & New Testament books- The Pentateuch, History, Poetry, Prophecy, Gospels, Epistles, Revelation. There are even time lines that are easy for kids to understand in the introductions of books. 'Cool facts' teach you things like how high Noah's ark was compared to a house. Then there are area's to learn it, do it, share it, and live it spilled out through the pages of the Hands-On Bible. I even found myself learning new things out of the Bible through my reading in it for review!

The best part of all are the areas known as 'The Jesus Connection' which helps you to discover how the focus of the Bible is Jesus. I love how Hands-On Bible encourages your children to have their own relationship with the Lord and His Word. If you have a child(ren) who are bored with their present Bible or you just want to bless them with a new & exciting one to help grow their faith & relationship with the Lord through His Word run out and get them Hands-On! You won't be sorry you did!

This Bible is so precious for use with pre-school children. The stories are selected from the Old and New Testament and are from the New Living Translation of the Bible. The Bible itself is hard cover, contains things to discuss, things to do (with little hand prints to show that it's hands-on), object lessons and prayer time. What a great way to introduce the Bible to children and to make the Bible come alive. It's fun and interactive and the children are going to look forward to their time spent with their parents reading the word.

If you are looking for a user-friendly, kid-friendly, or even child-like adult-friendly readable bible, this is the one for you.

With vibrant colors and full of features, The Hands-on Bible is wonderful for children.

There are so many useful features and all geared to address a child's way of learning. Features such as Character Bios, Time lines, Crafts, Experiments, and Fun Facts.

I found the 'Jesus Connection' feature to be the best. It is a short feature that ties the story or book back to Jesus. This is very important to me. Relating all Scripture to Jesus is the primary thing. Another key feature is the Bible Bonanza section. I also liked the alphabetical listing of the books of the bible useful. It made the search for a particular book of the bible easy to find for children.

When I was first saved, I bought a King James Version Bible because it was the version that my Pastor preached from. Not growing up in Church, the KJV was way over my head. I bought a child's bible for both my sons. Little did I know I would be reading more from their bible than my own. If I had to buy a bible now for my children, it would be this one.

Packed with information, stories, and features, I highly recommend this bible as a gift for child or for grown ups like me who like the simplicity and child appeal.

This Hands-on Bible for children is awesome; it is a great way to get children to ready the bible in simple terms they comprehend and understand; my son is 9 years old and has been reading this Bibke for several months now, and has truly learned a lot about our Lord. He is now on book Samuel and has left me behind since I am still on Deuteronomy. This wonderful Bible has helped my child have an easy bible study everyday; it also has a lot of hands on activities which are optional for our children to do and learn more of what our Lords word is all about.

I purchased this book and returned it the minute I opened it. My reason: there were very few images of African American children in this book. I take great pains to ensure that the images my children see depict positive images of people who look like them, and depict a rounded representation of the various kinks of people.

I had to search long and hard to find people of color in this book, especially African American children. Tyndale, when you decide to publish a book, you may want to take into consideration the diversity of your constituency. Your books need to reflect that diversity not only because your constituency is diverse but because it is the moral thing to do.

Because of this, I will purchase a bible that either has more diverse people represented or contains no pictures at all if one is not available that I think is suitable.
