If you love alpha shifters and the women that can make them fall to their knees, you’ll like A Highlander’s Obsession.
Paisley Munro has always felt as a weird person because of her ability to communicate with animals, which make her a great veterinary assistant. But when she travels to Scotland with her grandmother for a relative’s funeral things are going to take an interesting turn for her.

Creighton Matheson has to keep the place safe for him and his fellow shifters as well as all the other animals. But with Paisley’s grandmother inheriting land there, he is afraid their days of roaming free may be in danger. But he cannot seem to be able to keep away from Paisley, the woman that fainted in his arms as soon as she arrived at his lodge.

But what Creighton doesn’t know is that she is afraid because she heard his thoughts when they arrived, when she has only ever been able to hear animal’s thoughts. Only that is not the only danger they face, someone has been making problems within the clan, and now Effie, Paisley’s grandmother seems to be in danger, and there is also the curse the Matheson have hanging over their heads that only one person can break.

I absolutely loved this story, not only does it have a sweet and over protective alpha shifter, it also has a lot of mystery and a woman that has more than a simple role as a damsel that will help save the day.

A Highlander’s Obsession by Vonnie Davis

What can I say about this book? It’s by Vonnie Davis. For me, that pretty much says it all because she's done it again. But for those who haven’t read any of this author’s fabulous writing I’ll say more. A Highlander’s Obsession is a fun story with a range of characters. Good guys, bad guys, lovely women and pink hair. A funeral, talking animals, and laughter to shake your belly. I loved this story. What’s hotter than a bear shifter? How about a Scottish bear shifter? Oh, yes. Add in lots of hot sensuality and romance to melt your heart when Paisley Munro clashes with Creighton Matheson, and you're set for a nice little journey into the Scottish hill country.
Oh the poem Paisley recited for Creighton... I won’t put it here. That’s one crumb you’ll have to find for yourself.

I don’t know if it was intended, but the Pooh bear references tickled me. After all, what bear doesn’t love him some sweet honey? My favorite line? There are too many to count, but this one is on the list: Oh, hell, I think I just kicked a sleeping bear. And this one might be the top of that list: If he so much as touched her, she’d sex-destruct.

Only Ms. Davis could make sex talk so fun! I can’t wait for book two in this trilogy! Well done. Another hit in my opinion.

WOW. This story of Paisley and Creighton was awesome. They are a chemical explosion. Animal whisper meets Highland Shifter. Between his stubbornness and Paisley's gift, add in a few ghosts and a wacky Gram and you have one great read. I cannot wait for the other books to come out later. This was my first Vonnie Davis novel and it will be a MUST read for all.

Vonnie Davis is a modern-day bard of romance. Her mastery of writing mechanics is sublime, elevated to such a high standard that I don't have anything to say about it. I just didn't notice. All of my observations and reactions are based on the actual story itself. I'm well read in the PNR genre and A HIGHLANDER'S OBSESSION offers a unique take on the bear shifter genre.

The story is f*cking hilarious. There's humor throughout, but at one point mid-book, the hero slathers a sweet-smelling concoction on his private bits and nearly gets eaten alive by bugs. At the time of reading, I had a nasty head cold. (We're talking five layers of foam insulation between me and my thoughts, and nasal passages packed solid with snot the consistency of cement.) By the end of Chapter 14, I had tears running down my cheeks, snot clogging my throat, and I was clinging to my chair to stop from falling out. I kid you not, I almost drowned.

The romance is full of sweet, flowery declarations and swoon-worthy kisses. The hero and heroine share solid chemistry, and love scenes are well-appointed, somewhere in the mid-range on the content thermometer. Creighton, the hero, is hunky and heroic, although he has certain domineering and over-protective tendencies. However, Paisley is so fragile and sensitive (constantly crying), she really does require an old-fashioned, take-charge male presence in her life, so their dynamic ultimately works and works well.

Something Creighton does to Paisley during the course of the story gave me serious pause. I regarded it as a violation as severe or worse than a physical assault, and it affected my ability to enjoy parts of the book. That said, I can understand his reasons for his decision even if I don't agree with it. Paisley needs to be protected from everything, including herself, so his actions can be rationalized and forgiven. (See what I just did?)

This is an awesome read, and I recommend it without hesitation to paranormal romance fans who are looking for a bear-ish love story. You're never gonna top Vonnie Davis for her combination of storytelling mastery and comedic brilliance. Never.

The author provided an ARC of the book while a guest on my blog, but she didn't request a review. I was reading for pleasure.

I picked this book up without reading the blurb, thinking I was getting a historical highland romance. Imagine my surprise when I realized this is a modern highland shapeshifter novel. A first for me! And the shapeshifters are bears. Another first! However, I was pleasantly surprised. This was a quick, fun, light-hearted read that had me chuckling aloud on occasion.

I liked Creigh and all his alpha male instincts. These were pretty much standard as other alpha books, with lots of declarations of "MINE!" and the like. Only this time I got to do a horrible Scots accent in my head!

Side note: I did not know that a group or clan of bears was called a sleuth - so I even learned something!

Paisley, who has a great name and can communicate with animals, had a lot of insecurities to overcome. She was a bookish heroine, someone for the nerdy girl in us to root for, but her misgivings started to grate in my nerves towards the end. My favorite character by far was Grandma Effie Munro with her pink hair and pelican baffies. She was a hoot! She also reminded me alot of Grandma Mazur from the Stephanie Plum books.

This author is new to me, and I will definitely read more of her work in the future. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes light comical reads with a paranormal element. Have your Scottish dictionary ready!

4.5 - Beloved Stars!

I absolutely loved this book. I didn't have massive expectations going in, I was just looking to be entertained for a few hours. I love a man in a kilt and a gravelly Scottish burr, hits me right in the knicker elastic, and it was pinging all over the place with this Highland treat.

Add into the mix Shape-shifting bears, a few friendly ghosts, a lot of giggling and a little sniffle, and I fell in love with Laird Creighton Masterson, and his brothers Ronan and Bryce. Paisley Munro arriving from the US with her Grandmother, Effie is just the woman to tame the ornery, demanding and swooningly sweet Laird.

"I was scared of you before, but I'm not now."

A Highlander's Obsession delivered a whole lot more than I was expecting, and although the first book in the Highlanders Beloved series it offered a lot of openings and introductions whilst still keeping Creigh and Paisley at its focal point.

I love Scotland, although the Scotland in this book is the Scotland I wish I had visited previously, I'd kinda like my own kilt wearing Laird to curl up with on cold nights the next time I travel to the Highlands!

"We'll make a Scot of ye yet."

I am having withdrawals after finishing this book. It's a light and fun read even with a few darker elements. You'll walk away with a smile, and possibly the urge to run to Scotland and find yourself a kilted man.

The hero is a hunk with a lot of testosterone. He's sexy as hell and yet he somehow still has the sweetest side. You can not help falling in love with him. The heroine, although a little weepy at times, is someone who is unsure of herself.

I love this story not only because there are HOT-I MEAN HOT men in kilts and a few steamy scenes, but because it has a heroine who you watch grow. At the start of the book she's unsure of herself, verbally abused by an jerk, to a woman who finally see's she worth someone's love in the end. I loved Creighton, and as the book is aptly named, his passion for Paisley the heroine. He is unwavering in his devotion and although he is a strong Alpha male he is a romantic. I can't think of a better way to spend my time than reading about Creighton and Paisley OH and don't forget Grandma who is the comedic break throughout. The characters are people I want to meet - er, maybe the men are ones I'd like to um....

Along with the standard blurb, this book came with the claim that is is along the lines of Jennifer Ashley and Shelley Laurenston, so I had a whole lot of expectations from this book. Didn’t even come close. Sorry, but if you are going to compare a book about shifters to some of the top authors in the genre, you better be ready compete. If not, you are just insulting those authors and their level of talent.

One of the things that makes those two authors so great at what they do is by giving you these stunningly dynamic and rich characters set in truly unique worlds. The characters in this book are none of those things. Paisley comes across as a completely ignorant and stupid woman that has the maturity level of a 12 year old. I didn’t like her at all. Creighton is a guy that has spent his life pretty much doing whatever and getting whatever so he has no need to consider that someone may have a brain in their head or an opinion, so that when he finally crosses someone that challenges that worldview, his solution is to basically throw a temper tantrum. Again, didn’t like what I was getting.

The story is your typical highlander story that thinks it can get away with a lack of world and character building by tossing an apparently hot guy into a kilt with a little shifter thrown in to attempt to make it look original. What little there was beyond that was pretty cheesy rather than romantic.

I guess I’ve just come to expect an awful lot of certain types of books, especially if you are going to toss out big names in the genre. This didn’t even come close to the expectations it established in using those names for comparison. Even if I took away those expectations, this was only an okay book because there was absolutely nothing that was all that interesting or unique about it.

This book had me mesmerized! It was easy to picture everything from the castle to the mote. It was intense and full of life. Surprises throughout and left me wanting more. I totally LOVE Creighton and Paisley's addiction and inability to ignore their feelings for each other. I will be recommending this to many people. It was easy to read and truly addictive as you do not want to put the book down. It is very easy to picture every character. Her attention to detail is amazing and not over done. The flow of the book is amazing and reads like real life. I highly recommend this and can not wait to read A Highlander's Passion!

True love needs no words in this riveting paranormal romance when animal communicator, Paisley Munro shares a simmering attraction to Creighton Matheson. This fascinating story has lots of intriguing elements and charming characters to keep the reader well entertained. Lots of humor and passion adds spice to the story while the author’s fantastical origin of the Highland bears and the Matheson curse adds lots of depth to the story. Once I started reading, I had to turn every page until I had read every last word, not to mention the sexy highlanders in kilts who shift into bears and I can’t wait to read the next two books in this charming trilogy.

4 ½ STARS

This is a contemporary romance with a fantasy element, and the first novel I’ve read from this particular genre. It hooked me with the very first page. Here you’ll find shape-shifters, animal telepathy, legends, curses, witches and other magic, all set in the beautiful wilds of Scotland. The plot is nicely done, the primary and secondary characters are well developed, and Paisley’s grandmother is a hoot. Effie is Paisley’s quirky fun-loving and often bawdy grandmother who raised her from the age of 12. The main characters, Paisley and Creighton, are not perfect, but are perfect for each other, and their story will engage you with every page. You’ll be wrapped up so tightly in their story, you’ll be sad to see it end.

"Being a bear brings us more freedom." He tilted his glass and swallowed its contents. "Sometimes I'd sooner stay a bear."

A HIGHLANDER'S OBSESSION by Vonnie Davis is the first book in her new Highlander's Beloved series. It features hunky Highlanders who just happen to also be bear shifters and sports quirky humor galore with oodles of sweet and hot romance! Sprinkle a bit of magic over the mix and the result is a wonderfully entertaining debut for this new series! A HIGHLANDER'S OBSESSION is the story of American Paisley Munro and Scottish Laird Creighton Matheson. The characters truly shined!

Full of magic and romance, A Highlander's Obsession was a lovely read. I liked this book. It was an enjoyable romance.

Paisley was a good heroine. She started out as a hesitant character whose issues with rejection made her a doormat with her idiotic fiance. But, as the book went on, she grew more confident and became a much better character. My only real complaint about her was that her trust issues made her a bit frustrating, with her tendency to either run away or assume the worst. Otherwise, I liked her.

Creighton was also great. He was very loyal and protective of those he cared about, be it the people in his clan, or the woman he loved. However, he had an unfortunate tendency to bluster, where he would yell a lot but not actually say anything. It made me want to sit him down and explain how communication works. But, he could be sweet when he wanted to be and he was an overall likable hero.

The romance was lovely. A bit frustrating with Paisley's fight or flight response to a relationship and Creighton's need to learn how to talk instead of command, but overall, I thought they were good together. They both simply accepted each other as they were and they definitely had chemistry.

The plot was well paced and I was kept interested, though not totally hooked, the entire way through. I enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

A Highlander's Obsession was a wonderful read that I quite enjoyed. With the delightful mix of magic and romance, this book was great. It wasn't perfect, but I still liked it. Romance lovers, you might want to check this book out.

Paisley and her grandmother visit The Scottish Highlands to attend a funeral. Paisley has always felt she was an outcast as she can her animals' thoughts and communicate back to them. Her parents were certain she is crazy. Upon arriving at the Scottish castle where they will stay, Paisley is shocked to hear the thoughts of the gorgeous Highlander holding the door and welcoming her to the castle. Our author weaves a beautiful story of the Highlander sweeping Paisley off her feet. A very nicely written book!

What a unique storyline with the heroine, Paisley, having a unique ability and Creighton, the oldest Scottish son, having a unique ability also. In the beginning of the story, I felt like it moved too fast and was didn't flow well but it flowed better as the story went on.
