We are using this to prevent summer slide. I ask my daughter to do two pages a day and offer a reward (we use a marble jar) for completing additional pages. I also focus more on doing it independently than making sure it is correct. She often does more than two pages voluntarily and the directions/activities are simple enough that she can work independently (for the most part).

I thought this would list words and then suggest general activities to help children learn the words. Instead it is essentially a workbook. It useful but not as generalized as I thought it would be.

I got this cause I want to see if a pre-school grandchild could read 1st grade, well the book at words for 3 grade level listed too on back cover and he read them all. So at 4 this helped me realize we need to work with this child to advance him to how far he can go.

I bought this book for my child in 1s grade and frankly he completed the whole book with minimal effort in an evening. The book was delivered to him while I was at work and by the time I got home he had completed all of it. I say this to highlight that this is not really a 1st graders book but more for a kindergarten level child.
Otherwise it is helpful if your child is in kindergarten.

We have used several books for the kids and this one is perfect. I got 3 for my first, second, and third grader and the book is exactly what they needed. I will say that I need to get a 4th or fifth grade book for my third grader, but she is a little advanced. But these books are great for learning the sight words. They do different activities throughout the book to keep them interested.

My son loved this book. He is headed into 1st grade in a few months. He was able to read all the instructions to himself. The pages are short so he never got bored. The activities are great, the flow of the book is smooth. On to the 2nd grade book!

My husband bought these for our 5 year old daughter and she loves them. She does well with Bob books and is a pretty great little reader for her age. She would do 2 pages of this workbook before bed and beg to do more. It is perfect for beginning readers.

I thought this book would be more basic. My daughter is younger than first grade, but I've already started working with her because she is very advanced.
This book should not be used before first grade or before the student has had ample exposure to the words. This book is more of a reinforcer than a teacher. I would definitely use this book when my daughter has learned the words.
The price was cheap, and it has fun activities, but other learning media such as flash cards and pocket charts would be better for teaching the words. In addition, some of the activities require thinking and motor skills that younger children may not have the ability to complete, even if they know the words.

I ordered this book for my grandaughter who was supposed to reach the first grade at school. The book was not interesting for her and I tried to sit down with her but it was very frustrating ! This book concists from a few pages and it was just a bad choice for us!

I add words to my son's "sight word" list when we come across a word that is hard to sound out or he is having trouble with and I see that it has been coming up a lot in his readings. Well, some of the words on my son's list show up on this book's 3rd grade list. This seems silly to me since he is entering 1st grade and reading on his grade level.
I don't think this book challenges the reader as I had expected.
