The book is easy to read and follow the thought process. It is a good book to keep a co-dependent on track. Talking about each one of the step gives a person more insight to how the steps apply to your life.

Although it can be very therapeutic to listen to other people's story in how it relates to mine, I'm tired of people's stories. Each chapter starts with someone's codependent story. I'd rather get the information, work the step and be done. I'm sure that's not the case for everyone

I believe this book would be helpful to anyone, as we all have some codependency in us. We will use it for our CODA meetings! I will say this book wasn't in excellent or really good condition, as the pages were yellowed and tear out easily.

When I try to order the book I want and don't get it then it makes me a tad bit upset. So hopefully some time I'll get the right book I want. So I'm still determined to get her books. I've enjoyed some of them but just disappointed its not the right one.

The only reason I ordered this book was because the author said she was starting an online support group and she was going to use "her" book as baseline for our online meetings. I ordered the book and she never followed through with her group plans so I have started my own support group here where I live.

This is only ONE TAPE. Very disappointed! I wanted to get the CD, but it was over $50.00! I settled with the cassette tape (which are extremely outdated and shouldn't even be offered), and it was opened and used

Truly a Guide. If you are suffering from codependency and you are ready to change--then Beattie's book can truly help you stay focused as you being your healing journey. If you are someone who needs a step by step plan-this book can help you apply the twelve step program to your personal healing process.
Some people do not use the twelve steps to heal. Some people use Life Coaches, or enter into some type of talk therapy. No one therapy works for all-but if you plan on using the twelve step model to help you stay focused--this book will definitely help you understand why you are doing what you are doing.

This book is an essential tool for anyone wanting to work on their codependency, especially those of us who have worked the 12 Steps before. I related greatly to what Melody Beattie states in the introduction: The 12 Steps of AA helped relieve her obsession to drink and use, but her codependency issues remained until she applied the Steps to her codependency issues. That short sentence explained exactly where I was in my life when I came across this book. Now that I'm not just working the 12 Steps around my alcoholism and addiction, but also working the 12 Steps around codependency, I've been given a new freedom that I never knew was possible. Now, I'm not just a grateful alcoholic, I'm a grateful codependent!

This book is great for a 12 step workshop. I have been involved in several different types of workshops for the steps, but this is the most thorough book for co-dependency. I am on my 3rd book because every time I read it, I mark it up so bad that the next year I have trouble concentrating due to the highlights! It finally becomes entirely highlighted and I start over again! Melody hits home with so many points.....how does she know what I am thinking??? I have worked a program of recovery for many years, but I always see something new. Prepare to take your recovery to the next level with this book!

There are many books out there on recovery; and after many yrs in recovery, some of us own most of those books! This is absolutely the best one I have come across as far as the steps go. Its format of explanation and "getting to the heart of the matter" in the steps, can apply to everyones journey, regardless of which program they are in. This book will enhance everyones recovery program as well as their spiritual path, because it hits the basics and gets to the roots of all healing and growth in a way we can all relate to. Thanks Melody!
This book is "Golden". I highly recommend it.

This book is a wonderful mix of wisdom from several 12 step programs. I really enjoy the quotes & stories in this book. Not a replacemental of participation in a 12 step program for me, but great supplemental information. I'm so thankful for Melody Beattie's books!

This could have been written by a high school freshman. It is a one note diatribe which repeats and repeats itself with the same examples, just different people. They are all connected to alcoholics or drug users and are themselves insecure, overweight and needy. It is the 12 steps of AA customized for co-dependents. Nothing new is said and the implementation is so ephemeral as to be unuseable.

This book, while used, was indicated to be in very good condition - it is in my garage airing out because it smells of having been stored in some damp location. Smelled old and musty. This book should simply have been recycled. Very disappointed.

Melody Beattie's books are all incredibly honest and forthright. You can see yourself and your own behaviors in her words - she comes right to the heart of the matter, over and over again. She discusses the nuances of co-dependency in such a way that the reader can take something valuable from every page. This book helps the reader refocus on what is going on and what is important in life. An indispensable guide to recognizing co-dependent behaviors and choosing to leave them behind.

All of Melody Beattie books are phenomenol. She has been one of my guides since the 80's and still the majority of the world has not caught up with her. She writes from personal experience as well as her education. She walks her talk and I will always admire her. Her books, "The Language of Letting Go" is a daily meditation, "Codependent No More" is the basic text, and "Codependents Guide to the Twelve Steps" is the solution. It's 12 steps and therapy - the best of both worlds.

This book has been invaluable to me as a comforting and challenging resource, especially as I worked through a recent, highly painful relationship loss. I began to understand the 12 Steps much more clearly through Melody Beattie's clear and gentle explanations. Many people I know in 12-step programs use this book, finding that it resonates well with many different types of recovery work.

Great book for anyone ever experiencing relationship probems. Many have no idea that they may have codependent issues; many people don't know what codependency is. Knowing what it is and what to do about it has saved my sanity, (literally), changed my life and my attitudes toward myself and others. Knowing what codependency is and what to do about will set you free if you suffer from it's dibilitating effects.

This book has made it so easy for me to approach my codependency. With the steps and the guidance, I have been able to identify themes, triggers, and people who make it worse. It is the best book for moving forward.

Highly recommend this - I have read it several times. I find it an excellent resource for understanding and cultivating healthy relationships of all kinds. If you ever feel like you are missing "connection" on a deep level this is the book to read.

This time around I'm addressing some core issues and this book is just perfect for where I'm at. It provides a refreshing perspective that complements and supplements ANY other 12 Step program. If you want to go a little bit deeper than the way you usually work the Steps, without complicated or excessive formats, this book is so worth your time!

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired - this is the book for you. I have struggled with people-pleasing, victimization, saying yes when I want to say no, etc. This book has taught me how to take care of myself, and life a happier life!

Melodie Beatie invented co-dependency. We who have lived with a loved one who is alcoholic are not 'addicted' to the alcoholic as our primary problem. Our problems are created by the "survival skills" we adopt in our behaviors, attitudes and thoughts in order to cope with the alcoholism. We become different people than we were, become bitter, resentful, self-righteous, judgemental and more. AL-ANON adapted the 12 Steps of AA to fit our own special needs and recovery program about 60 years ago. We have many books, pamplets, and booklets -all Conference Approved Literature that by using, along with participation in the program, have given hope, joy and freedom to millions. And we become the people we were meant to and wanted to be in that recovery. Co-dependants stay co-dependent, I prefer being independent. If you want to end your misery and learn to live life on life's terms - Al-Anon is your answer. The "Paths To Recovery" is excellent as a guide to learning and working the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of Service focused on the non-alcoholic - US.

This book is completely useless. After I read it I sent it directly to the garbage. All the cheap "tools" it has are ALL related to god. God is mentioned in absolutely EVERY SINGLE page. This religious book is the worst I have ever read.
