One of our all-time favorites around here. While it's easily memorized, the illustrations and the rhythm keep us coming back time and time again. Even I will stare at the pictures, finding new nuances to enjoy each time we read it. We have read this one since my oldest, now 5, was a small baby, and we still enjoy it. It will always be read at my house.

My two-year old and I have had endless hours enjoying this book. It is beautifully written and evokes a child's imagination. The use of rhyme is also excellent for early pre-reading skills. I would highly recommend this book.

the CD didn't have the music, disappointed about that part, the song is the best part of reading that book, especially to children. I understand that the cassette has the song........but who has a cassette player anymore?

I love this book. I love the rhythm of it, I love the note at the end, I love the dedication - love it.

Unfortunately, I've yet to get either of my nieces overly involved in it. They'll sit through it, but they won't request it :(

So I've had to take a star off what I'd normally rank this book as because, in my house, it's just not doing its job. I don't know why they don't love it, they just don't.

I don't mind rhyming books, but this one sounds like something I would make up on the spot as I'm bathing a baby- not something I would pay someone else to come up with. There are so many "words" that aren't real words that I feel like I can't follow what's going on ...I'm not sure if there's a story in there somewhere, or not. The illustrations are cute, though. And who knows-,my kid may grow to love it. He's too little to have an opinion at this point.

There are so many better books out there. My toddler does in enjoy it, but I cringe when she asks me to read it. It's complete nonsensical (storyline and language) and I don't think it benefits a toddler's development. I don't care for the illustrations either. books i do like to read with my toddler: mini masters collection, most Eric Carle, Elusive Moose, Hush! A Thai lullaby, and most other books that "promote" language development and are well-illustrated.

"Jamberry" by Bruce Degen was a gift to us when our boy was born. She said it had all the elements a first book should have: that it is catchy, short and, as is her preference (and mine) a story poem. She warned I might soon be able to quote it in my sleep. After one reading, I'm not quoting, but I can see that happening.

I read this tonight for the first time. Reading is extremely important in our life, and I have read to him daily. However, where I veer differently than some parents is that I am exposing him to the greatest literature I can find. I want him to fall in love with words and language and all the music within. He has heard everything from books in the Bible, to Shakespearean sonnets, to Dob Dylan lyrics. Bruce Degen's book fits the bill, as my friend suggested. Is it the Bard's Sonnet 18? No, of course not, but, to my boy's ears, I have no doubt it is as delightful if not more so.

If I were to have two versions of this, I would have the small board book I have here, and a larger one. The small one works well for one-handed page-turning, an important feature when the one read to is in your arms. A larger version one would allow the beautiful detail of the pictures to show.

I fully recommend "Jamberry" by Bruce Degen.

This is a classic and my 2 year old loves it. It is a poem rhyme book about a boy and a bear on their quest for berries, berries for Jam. Book is hard cover and the pages are hard too, which is great for a young child. I have many books with pages torn by my child, and will not have to worry about this book ripping. Illustrations are hand drawn of the boy and bear in Berryland. I really enjoying this book and my kid asks me to read it all the time. I think it's a classic that never gets old, and have purchased it for a friend who has a young child.

Come join a little boy and his very endearing bear friend as they travel through berryland, on a "razzamatazzberry" adventure of a lifetime, picking and eating and playing together. Bruce Degen fills this entertaining treasure of a book with lively and joyous wordplay, alliteration, and high-spirited fun, and complements his jazzy, rhyming verse with bright, bold, and engaging illustrations. Imaginations will soar with each page turn as little ones explore the busy artwork, finding something new and special each time they open the book. Perfect for preschoolers, Jamberry is a marvelous mouth-watering, toe tapping, energetic, romp that begs to be read aloud, and is sure to send you off to the kitchen for a jamberry snack of your own. This is a classic to share with family, friends and future generations. "Mountains and fountains/Rain down on me/Buried in berries/What a jam jamboree!"

Love the story. We purchased the book thinking it was the regular sized book. Instead we got a tiny board Book. Thankfully I have a two year old that I could give this to but I was bummed that I couldn’t give my 7 year old his favorite Book for Christmas,

~*~This was my number #1 find in the course of caring for 9 nieces and nephews over the past 14 years!
~**~ Bruce Degen's illustrations are, as always, absolutely luscious, and in this case, mouth-watering. My niece loved to look for tiny hidden details in the beautiful pictures.
I recommend buying the larger size copy if possible just to be able to see the pictures at their best.
~***~ The story lines are simple, but beautifully rhythmic, and whimsical.
They don't sound like Nobel prize winning words:
~~*~~: "Quickberry quackberry,
."pick me a Blackberry"
......Trainberry, trackberry,
......Clickety clackberry.
But the pictures and words form an enchanting little story that all the toddlers couldn't get enough of.
Now my latest pride and joy, at 8 months, is already fascinated by the book, and just reciting the lines can stop his fussing.
This is destined to be one of those "forever" children's books, and luckily it's a joy to read. :-)

With "One berry, Two berry pick me a blueberry..." this book's lyrical lines and imagination igniting illustrations is a wonderful read for both children and adults. The lines quickly become memorized so you can recite the words while snuggling with your child. The pictures inspire imaginative talks. With "boomberries" and "zoomberries" it can be dramatically or soothingly read, lending itself to both daytime and bedtime readings. This book was a favorite with my children, and my children have made sure it is in their children's libraries.

My son received this book as a gift. I was delighted by the creative writing! The words are fun to say and the book reads like a celebration. I love that there is a wordless illustration. It gives the opportunity for the child and parent to interact with the book together and discuss what's happening. As the illustrator of Man in the Moon, I find it refreshing to have pages more about the picture to balance out the pages with such beautiful lyrics. My son is just a year old and is picky with the books he will sit through. This is one of the ones he will quietly listen to and not try to skip to the end.

Just a delightful book. I remember reading this during library time when I was little, so I had fond memories of reading the playful words and looking at the fanciful illustrations. You'll enjoy the book if you like fun rhyming that doesn't necessarily use "perfect" words but creates an enjoyable experience for your child anyway. Although another reviewer gave this book one star because it wasn't "educational" enough due to its use of playful words, some books are just meant to be read and enjoyed without teaching a lesson. It's okay to let kids be kids and to foster their imagination!

Now I'm an adult with a toddler. I found "Jamberry" at our local library and checked it out to read to my daughter who was 12 months old at the time. She kept saying "again" whenever we'd finish it. Whenever we check it out at the library, she wants to read it everyday, multiple times, at least 3 times in a row. Although this may annoy me slightly (especially after the 15th time reading it in one day), I'm thrilled she's so excited about a book and am proud to help foster her love for reading at an early age.

As an aside, we haven't checked "Jamberry" out at the library in at least 2 months and tonight I said "One berry, two berry, pick me a blueberry" and our daughter wanted to read the book. We tried explaining to her that "Jamberry" was still at the library and she got pretty upset that the book wasn't here to read for the twenty-millionth time. Never making that mistake again! No quoting "Jamberry" unless you have the real thing to back it up. That's why I've gone ahead and put it on my daughter's wish list.

Fun to read, fun to hear, fun to repeat... over & over again! This book is full of energy and excitement. Every one of my boys LOVES this book.

And, I'm always amazed at how quickly they memorize the verses. Everytime we make a PB&J, we end up chanting the words to Jamberry - everyone chimes in.

We have this book in the board book version, the hard back version and the paper back version!! We initially received the board book as a gift for our 7 year old; we've since given many books as gifts to others. Everyone shares our enthusiasm about it.

This book belongs at the top of every 'Must Have' booklist for children (and adults too).

Come along and sing the song of "Jamberry" in "Jamberryland." A little boy befriends a dancing bear that is picking scores of berries in Berryland. The illustrations in this book are OUTSTANDING, sweet, and silly, beset with wit and surprises such as fruit tart flowers, butter-cookie lily pads, and bread vines to name a few. Visually stunning, as well as wonderfully rhythmic too, "Quickberry! Quackberry! Pick me a blackberry! Trainberry, Trackberry Clickerty-clackberry!" Terrific use of alliteration. This dynamic little board book will captivate your children, and don't be surprised if it charms you too. Indeed, "Jamberry" is one of the MOST imaginative books ever written for infants and young children! Birth and up.

One of my all-time favorites for children aged four months to 2 1/2 years! The youngest will enjoy the enthusiastic alliterative rhyming and the bright colors; toddlers (and adults!) will also enjoy the clever pictorial links between each page (preparations for fireworks are shown in the corner of one page; delightfully exploding berries on the next).
I don't know whether this book is more fun for the reader or the listener ("Raspberry/Jazzberry/ Razzamatazzberry/ Berryband/Merryband/Jamming in Berryland"), but it will fast become a favorite for you and a child! An enchanting tale, beautifully told: A perfect gift!

My 19-year-old confessed recently that she loved the book Jamberry, which I read repeatedly to her as a child.
She remembers the silly rhyming text with the dancing bear and little lad as they jam in Berryland, cavort in strawberry fields, rumble and ramble in blackberry brambles, and topple their canoeberry with blueberries. The colorful pictures compliment the text. This is truly a fun, tongue-twisting book for kids and parents to read together.

This book was on our recommended reading list for school. My 2 year old likes it; even if she has absolutely NO idea what is going on. She thinks the elephants skating on raspberry jam are "silly." The book is set to rhyme and is divided into berries with a little story of a boy and a bear and their love of the berries. "One berry, two berry, pick me a blueberry..."
the colors are bold and there are animals all over the page. The scenery has marshmallows, pats of butter and all sorts of stuff in the background. The colors are great and the story is entertaining and very imaginable. Get it today!

My parents read this to me as a kid and I plan to read it to my kids. I still have it and it's in pretty good condition. It has a lot of made up words in it but it's fun to read and kids have fun with it. I'd recommend it for anyone.

This book is beautiful to look at and fun to read. It carries children away, (my daughter age 1.5 "I want to get very very very small and go ride that horsey'). The cadence of the book is soothing and exciting. I have so much fun reading this book that I usually improvise some jazzy notes after the brass band verse and I always lift my voice in a resounding "BOOM" durning the last verse. This is not a book about berries - it is a trip into the imagination of a little boy - and what a beautiful journey Bruce Degen has created for us to enjoy.

Of the countless board books that we received when our son was born, none has pleased him (or us!) more than "Jamberry!" My four and a half month old giggles and squeals with delight each and every time we read it to him (which is quite often!) The rhyming is fun and whimsical (silliness at its best) and has a terrific sing-song quality to it ("Quickberry/Quackberry/Pick me a blackberry!") I had never heard of this book prior to my son's birth, but now I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun way to introduce books and reading to their kids.

It's a charming book. Pretty pictures and rhymes for the children, and for the adults, an enjoyable drug metaphor. (Don't pretend it isn't there, by the way. The entire book consists of the same story repeated 4 times: the boy and the bear try "berry," they get super high, and then they crash.) Your child will love it. You could also consider reading it to any drug addicts in your family to show them the error of their ways.

Our family LOVES the rhyming in this story! So cute! We find ourselves counting, "one berry, two berry, pick me a blueberry..." at random times! This is a fun one to read to kids and allows you to really ham it up and be really animated and silly. The pictures are very elaborate and detailed and fun to look at. The kind where you notice something there a second time that you never noticed there before. This is certainly becoming one of our all-time favorite children's books!

My 2-yr-old daughter requests this book on a regular basis. It's one of her favorites and one of my favorites as well. We both enjoy the sing-song, cute poetic rhythm of the book. However, she LOVES the illustrations. There are various details for which she searches every time: "raining blueberries", marshmallows, etc. And we always find something new and intriguing about the illustrations. We think this is a terrific book, and I recommend it to everyone I know with children. We'll always have a copy in our home!

What I love about this book is that you'd be mesmerized with the beautiful and colorful illustrations. The drawings and the colors are beautiful to look at which serves the purpose of getting and holding the children's attention. With simple text on each page, it is definitely suitable for babies too. The drawing on each page depicts the fun of being outdoor, exploring the nature and appreciating one of nature's best gifts - Berries. Don't be surprised if suddenly your child grows to love berries because from the beginning till the end, the pages are filled with berries, berries, berries.

For my 18-month-old, this book was a favorite "anytime" read. Six months later, he still loves it. The rhyming text and silly illustrations make it a joy for me to read to him over and over and OVER again! His favorite part, by far, is the train, about midway through the book. He can't wait to reach this part. He's going through a major "choo choo" obsession at the moment. I am confident that this title will hold up even after the train becomes less important to him.

"Jamberry" is a book about a bear and a little boy who are counting berries in all different ways. They are also saying all different kinds of berries. Such as, hatberry, shoeberry, canoeberry, and fun berries like that. There are berry ponies, dances, trains, and meadows. The book teaches you to have fun and use your imagination. The age level is for children from ages 2-7. I have loved this book since I was a little kid. It rhymes well and has fun, cute pictures.

I will not be coy. This is one of my favorite children books to read to my children. The illustrations are whimsical and invite your children to make sense of them and help tell the story. The story itself is a lovely mix of word play, and delightful imagery. We return to this one again and again. Appropriate for very young children as the just the sound of the story is delightful, up to well... I suppose adult as I'm still enjoying it.

I found this as a little board book when my first child was small. We immediately bought a backup copy. I never want to be without it. While it immediately captivates the smallest with its rollicking rhyme, the older members of the family can't help but to appreciate Degen's charming illustrations. Can't help craving a little bread with jam by the time the story's through! We are fans forever of Bruce Degen's work.

My 10-month old loves this book so much that I can recite it by heart! Whenever she needs to be calmed or distracted from "no-no's", I read this book. It immediately gets her attention.
The rhyme and rhythm are entertaining for both parent and child. The illustrations are creative and fun. With many things to discover on each page i.e., toast in bushes, waffles on ponds...
A wonderful book for babies and toddlers!

One berry, two berry, pick me a blueberry! I am pretty certain I can recite this one by heart, having read it an unimaginable number of times to my twins, now age three. It's incredibly silly, fantastic (waffle trees anyone?) and the rhymes are super catchy and fun. The drawings are top notch, full of details. Look for the hints on each pair of pages, glimpses of what will come next in this wacky tale. Joyous and downright delicious.

English is not the primary language for us at home. So I try to translate the story for my son whenever I am reading for him. I wanted to read this book in English as it rhymes very well. The first time I read it he kept running around. Then I kept the book on his lap. He opened the book and saw the little boy and the beautiful illustrations and asked me to read it for him. I sang it again for him and he loved it. He refused to goto bed as he wanted to keep reading this book. He loves the page "Boobberry/Zoomberry/Rockets shoot by" . He makes me sing it so many times just to get to that page and keeps looking at it with awe.We love this book.

This is a must have book! The rhymes are real rhymes and not "almost rhymes". Both my husband and I have this book memorized ~ it was easy and quick.

When chaos is about to erupt, all we have to do is say. "One berry, two berry...". Our sons quiet down, we can get their attention very easily, and we get broad smiles to boot.

It is very soothing. As I am writing this, the poetry is ringing in my ears and it is not as annoying as a song in your head, it's actually quite pleasant.

Get this book for yourself or as a gift. It makes me eager for berry picking season! <slurp>

This is a wonderful little book. My 7-month old loves it. I started reading to him from birth. The hardcover pages make it a perfect size for little hands. He looks forward to our reading Jamberry. The author was so creative and the rhyming is wonderful. It's a fun book to read outloud to my son! I also recommend Sheep in a Jeep and Sweet Dreams, Ted. They, along with Jamberry, are his favorites! Pick yours up today as a gift or for your own little baby or toddler.

A really fun board book, the words are repetitive and the rhyming is simple and fun. It has a great rhythm to it and pretty whimsical in its humor. A great board book for little ones who enjoy the rhythm of Dr. Seuss or similar stories. The illustrations have an old fashioned feel to them. They are detailed but not overwhelmingly so.

I bought this book when my son was 11 months old. The cadence of the whole book is wonderful. I've read it slow and I've read it so fast I can't keep up with myself turning the pages. It was quickly a favorite of mine, and when my son was old enough he would get this book from his 'library' and hand it to me. Even now (he's 8) we love this book. He reads it to me. And I love to ask "faster, faster" like he would do when I was reading to him. This spring we planted a strawberry pyramid and 3 blueberry bushes. It was funny that I didn't think of this book when my son said he wanted to plant these. But it makes perfect sense now. This will be a book that is handed down to his children and bought for his nieces and nephews I'm sure. The board book format is so excellent, the book is still in fabulous shape.

We have read this to our 16 mos old daughter at least 2 times a day for the last 6 weeks. I have read this to many children over the last 20 years, and it is universally loved. It has a clear rhythm, and I have always sung it to the tune of "Ten Little Indians" (although I only realized that a few weeks ago when my husband pointed it out). I really like this book. We have a board book version. My daughter is two and loves berries. She eats frozen strawberries and/or blueberries with her daddy nearly everyday so I thought she would like a book about berries. I have this memorized. I did a terrible thing the other day when my daughter brought the book over for me to read. I flipped through the pages telling the story without looking at the book and was reading something else. My one-year-old daughter noticed, and was upset. So, don't let this happen to you. The pictures are highly detailed, colorful and creative so much that I crave jelly and preserves all the time now. It has a clear rhythm, and I have always sung it to the tune of "Ten Little Indians" (although I only realized that a few weeks ago when my husband pointed it out). In the car our baby will flip the pages and sing nonsense while pointing to the pictures. Bringing it with us in the car almost always keeps her happy.

I really like this book. We have a board book version. My daughter is two and loves berries. She eats frozen strawberries and/or blueberries with her daddy nearly everyday so I thought she would like a book about berries. While I really enjoy the poetry, it reads out-loud very nicely, she does not really seem to care for it. She may like it better when she gets a little older.

I recommend the boardbook for its ruggedness because you will be reading this story again and again and again and again....

This book is fabulous! I bought it when my son was born 12 years ago and I can still recite ALL the lines from memory. This was both of my boys favorite book and the only board book that I have retained through the years. I now buy this as a gift for all parents-to-be. You won't be sorry when purchasing this book.

This was one of my daughter's favorites, and it's one I didn't mind reading again and again. It has a fun rhythm and innovative text, and is not repetitive or "moralizing" like many kids' books. It's not meant to teach a lesson, just fun-- and really, don't we all need that sometimes?

We've got twin 3 year olds and a 1 year old. The twins absolutely loved this book when they were younger, and still do. It is one of our 3rd daughter's favorites. The illustrations are beautiful and the rhyme is extremely catchy and entertaining. We would absolutely recommend this book!!

Not since Blueberries for Sal have we enjoyed such a gleeful romp through berry patches. Every colorful rhyming page celebrates the bounty of berries. "Strawberries ponies, blueberry lambs, elephants skating on raspberry jam." I love to give this one as a baby shower present.

What a wonderful way the words of this little book are put together. A whimsical melody of words that flow off your tongue as you tell the tale of Jamberry. My daughter is 4-1/2 and she and I both still love reading this book together.

I love the detailed illustrations of the book. Look for the crackers lily pads!

A very special unique book. A must have in any parent's reading material for their young child! Don't miss this one!

This was my kids' favorite book when they were little, and now I'm buying many copies for nieces, nephews, and little cousins. Wonderful verse, fun pictures. Lots of repetition, which the little ones love. Enjoy!

This book is so classic, and I can't imagine rasisng children without it. This book, as I look back at it, gives me such a trip back to when I was in kindergarten. It's rythym is easy for children to pick up on, and its illustrations are dripping with color and imagination. It is a perfect book for kids to sit with you and read. You must own this book! It is as nessacary as many childrens "blankies". Don't try and give your children generic books. They will love this book (so will you)!

I love Jamberry! I found this book while on vacation and my 10 month old daughter loved it. It has an infectious rhyming story that is original and inventive. We had to own our own copy. Now, when my daughter is fussy, I recite a few pages from the book and she calms down. It really is a fun and adorable book.

This is a wonderful book. I have been reading it to my twin daughters for about 15 months now. The author did an incrediable job flowing the illustrations and words together. It is easy to adjust the speed of it. Add a couple of hand movements and you have un-divided attention for the duration.
As a parent, having read the book about 300 times, it is STILL fun to read. Definately worth the $8 price tag!

I bought this book for my son when he was 6 months old. It is now a year later and it is still in his regular bedtime rotation. Even better than that, I still like it! It ryhmes, it has beautiful pictures and it's a whole lot of fun. I keep looking for other books like this one and haven't found any yet. There are enough details in the pictures that we can always find something new to talk about, the tiny mice, or tadpole, the train, the bunny rabbit marching band, the cracker flowers or jellybean bushes. Outstanding!

We received this as a gift for our baby from his uncle and aunt who have planted hundreds of berry bushes on their property. The illustrations and words are fun and clever and I love that it was written by someone as a tribute to his own childhood picking berries.

This book was a favorite with our first child 10 years ago, and we just bought another copy for our 1-yr.-old! I love the flowing, rhyming prose, and the illustrations allow for so much discussion and interaction. As with Dr. Suess books, I find myself repeating the words throughout the day (like when we're eating berries!) I definitely recommend this book!

Bought this book for my daughter when she was 7 months old based on other reviews I read here and it did not disappoint. This is by far my favorite book in my daughter's collection (she is now 14 months old) and it is one of her favorites too. The illustrations are magnificent, the story is glorious, and there is a lot to discover on each page. I find that I see something new each time, whether it is the waffle lily pads or the Boys N Berries train decal.

This is a big hit with our one year old son, but also for his three-year old cousins.
The rhymes are silly and varied. The pictures are colorful and lively.
We love reading and even singing the words to various tunes.

The actual construction of the book has held up well over many readings and even some tug-of-war fights between the kids.

I bought this little book from a flea market a couple years ago, and my baby loves it. I've read it to her since she was a couple months old, and even then she liked to stare at the pictures. The repetition of "berry" throughout the book makes her smile and giggle. I've read it so many times to her, and I'm still not tired of it. A great children's book!

Great book but it is even better with the tape. One side of the tape is the story and the other side has the story as a song with a really catchy tune. Once you hear it you will never forget it. It was very popular in my classroom.

My daughter loved this book from the first read and it is a regular request (she's 15 months). The cadence is great. It just makes you feel good! Anything that instills the joy of reading like this book has got to be great for her down the road.

"Jamberry," by Bruce Degen is a wonderfully illustrated book that takes children on a magical trip through Berryland. The rhyming words are fun to read and children love to hear this story over and over again. There are so many fun activities that go along with this book too! It is a "must have book" for any pre-school program!

My 13 month old loves this book - he will happily listen while I read it over and over. The illustrations are beautiful, tasteful and full of suprises which older children can enjoy, like trees with bread growing on them and a skating rink of jam. The text is a bit non-sensical but very imaginative (...). It's dense with rhyme, so it sounds lovely when read aloud and my kids want to listen even if they can't understand the words.

My 12 month old loves this book. He loves to laugh with us when we're reading the bouncy words. He also likes to search for the bear on every page. It's a great book; I have 2 older boys, so getting this as a gift for my youngest was extra special, because I'd never seen it!

We love this book! I have been reading it to my 6 month old every day since she was 2 weeks old, and it is our favorite. Each time you read the book, you can spot new things within the illustrations. And, each page has an illustration that leads you to the next page! I wish Bruce Degen wrote more books like this- he is very talented.

My son Ben took to this book right from the beginning. We have been reading this book for almost a year and my 2 1/2 year old has memorized it from beginning to end. Starting with "Jamberry by Bruce Degen" It is one of the few books that I don't mind reading time after time after time again.

We checked this book out of the local library 2 weeks ago. Our 19 month old son fell instantly in love with it. He asks to read it several times a day, he carries it around and talks about it. I logged onto the store today to buy a copy because I know he's going to miss it greatly when it goes back to the library next week.

The book is cute, but alas my kids never got into it. When you think about it, the story theme is a little odd-- a hobo bear takes a kid along to ride the rails to another town. But whatever! The illustrations are cute and it rhymes well.

This book is cute and I like the illustrations, but my 2-year old son is not impressed with it. He loves story time and will sit and listen to book after book, but always drops interest in this one after page 2. There isn't an interesting story--just lots of rhyming. It's one of those books I want to like, but can't yet. We're expecting #2, perhaps this child will feel differently.

I have a slightly contrary view of this book to many other reviewers.

Let's start with the important part. My 21-month old daughter loves it. She loves the whimsical illustrations of the boy, bear, and other animals in various berry-ful settings. She loves the fanciful rhymes and alliteration. And she certainly loves berries!

But I confess that when she pulls this one out of the basket to read, my heart sinks just a bit. It's a bit too cute for me, with its "clickety clackety pick me a blackberry" style. So I read it... but I find myself wishing she had picked something a little less treacle-y.

As a reading teacher I have to say that this is a wonderful book for teaching phonemic awareness, a really important skill for reading. It has terrific word play and the illustrations support the text perfectly. Nice job, Mr. Degan!

I was specifically looking for the hardcover version but it came as the board book (even though it said I was purchasing the hardback). I adore the story, creative rhymes and imaginative illustrations, but I am frustrated because I wanted the more keepsakeness of a hardback and they shouldn't have sold the used board book as a hardback.

Ugh, this book has all the irritating tonality and flavor of something straight from Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters. I have no tolerance for hippy dippy Grateful Dead chaff. Reading this aloud infuses the room with near all the detestable moppet feelgoodery that wafts off of Godspell (thankfully without any of the Jesus BS).

Seriously, the whole thing sounds like a Phish song.

Terrible.

I remember reading this book to my two youngest children when they were toddlers. They each wanted it read multiple times each day. They loved the bright colorful pictures and the happy lilting rhymes of the story. I've already bought multiple copies for grandchildren and I just ordered another one for another granddaughter. I remember her mom reading it to her younger siblings.

When I taught, I enjoyed books like this that had a catchy rythm and a lot of take off points for teaching. This book is wonderful. We would make bread and eat toast and jam, we'd jump rope to the book rhymes, we'd find rhyming words and more. Now that I'm a mom- this book is still a favorite of mine. Now, my son and I do fun things- the other day, he helped me make jam after we read this book.
This book is a must have in my opinion. The rythm is catchy and fun. The illustrations are adorable. Children like this book. I've never known a child to not like this book.
Enjoy.

My first grader still enjoys this book. He follows the illustrations very well, with the sense of "what's coming next?" Littler children (much littler) are just enthralled by the book. The language is so appealing. Made up words and wonderful cadence take this boy on a berry-picking adventure with a bear over a waterfall, through strawberry fields, on the trackberry with the blackberry train, and into raspberry fair.

Simply wonderful -- we have read this many, many times.
