Those of us who would LOVE to live in the fictional town of Fool’s Gold, California are going to yearn again to move there. In the latest book in the series, Aiden Mitchell and Shelby Gilmore agree to try an experiment—to try being friends with the opposite sex, just friends—and I really enjoyed the relationship they shared as they each changed for the better.

The whole gang is back in Shelby and Aiden’s story. The friendship the two develop in their experiment to improve themselves is one for the ages. I loved the alternating “girl date” and “guy date” idea they came up with. And the tie-in to the next series taking place in Happily Inc……OOOOOOO I can’t wait for that series to start with the artistic Mitchell brothers!

If you, like myself, have been in Fool's Gold since the beginning, this is a wonderful conclusion to the series. I love that many characters from previous books make a reappearance and we learn how their lives are now, how they have grown and changed. I love the hint of what's to come in Happily, Inc.

If you have never read a Fools Gold book, you're in for an easy read with a happy ending. You will fall in love with the town, and with Shelby and Aidan, as they resist falling in love with each other. Can a man and woman just be friends? Can they resist the obvious chemistry they share? Will they fall prey to the magic of Fool's Gold and the matchmaking of Mayor Marsha?

I can't wait to travel to Happily, Inc., discover what makes this town special and learn more about the rest of the Mitchell boys.

Best of My Love is the latest in Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series. If you've made it this far in the series, you pretty much know what to expect. A fun, light-hearted story, with fun characters in an absurdly quaint town. This book delivers in all of these areas. The town and the story are familiar and each year when the first is released it reminds me that summer is around the corner and I am reassured with my old friends in Fools Gold as well as the new ones that pop-up. Mallery continues to create flawed, yet likable characters and continues to write new stories using the same winning formula. If you are looking for an easy read to get you ready for summer, then this is the book for you!

The Best of My Love by Susan Mallery is a 2016 HQN publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

The last book in this series I read was kind of lukewarm, but I realize any long running series will have a ‘one off’ from time to time, so I was confident the next book I picked up would be back on track.

I did worry at first, though, when the first half of the book seemed to repeat the “We are just friends” mantra over and over again ad nauseam, and the story seemed to move along at a snail’s pace with only a handful of humorous moments keeping me from total boredom, because there wasn't much action, or romance. I was beginning to think this book was basically a vehicle in which to set up a potential new series set in Happy, Inc.

But, at around the half way mark, the story started to pick up steam and I found myself fully engrossed in Aidan and Shelby’s drama.

Shelby Gilmore is Kibling’s sister, a young lady haunted by her past with men. She is determined to step out of her shell and learn to believe that all men are not abusive. To that end, she devises a plan to become ‘just friends’ with Aidan Mitchell. Why Aidan?

Well, it would seem Aidan has avoided relationships and marriage at all cost, which means he can’t date local women because he doesn’t want a trail of broken hearts and hurt feelings left in his wake. So, he dates tourists. No harm, no foul, right? Well, not exactly. When one of his many conquests gets hurt, Aidan takes a good long, hard look at himself, and doesn’t like what he sees. He has begun to think of women in a way that is not healthy and by his own admission, he’s turned into a jerk.

So, Aidan agrees to remain ‘just friends’ with Shelby for six months. He needs to begin to see woman as people and learn respect and honor. So, he thinks becoming friends with Shelby will help him with that goal.

Naturally, as things progress, the couple begins to fight off romantic feelings and their friendship develops into something deeper. But, will they be able to put their fears behind them and admit they love each other?

There are a few humorous situations as Aidan hangs out with the girls, and Shelby hangs out with the guys that are priceless. There is a wonderful character development, and while the process is slow, and at times tedious, it is well worth it in the end. I did enjoy watching this couple fall in love, and grow as individuals and as a couple.

I am wondering if maybe this series is coming to a close and a new connected series is in the works. I would love to see a little change of scenery myself, and I’m sure after twenty novels set in one location, the author is ready for a change of pace as well. The prospect certainly does sound intriguing.

Either way, this book ended up being a nice, solid installment in the series, and I loved the way things came together in the end, with a really sweet HEA.

This one gets 4 stars.

I was so looking forward to another visit to Fool’s Gold, and I was not disappointed! I loved the premise behind Aidan and Shelby’s story… can a man and a woman just be friends. I know from experience they can, but I really wanted Aidan and Shelby to move past the ‘friends’ stage. Since this is Fool’s Gold, I knew I would not be disappointed there either. I enjoyed this book from the beginning. I read that others thought it started slow- I did not think so. It grabbed me from the hangover. Also, since I have read every Fool’s Gold novel written, I always enjoy catching up with previous characters, so I was glad there were so many included in this story. Feels like home :)

Happy yet sad. Happy with another great Fool's Gold book and yet sad because this is the last of the series. This book is a great ending to the series. I like Shelby and Aiden as friends that develop into a couple. Shelby has trust in men issues and Aiden finds he has developed into a one night stand kind of guy. They decide to become friends to work on each of their issues and it evolves into a loving relationship with many funny and sweet situations between. We get many updates on previous characters that interweave with the current story very smoothly.
If you liked the previous Fool's Gold stories, you will surely like this one too. If you haven't read any of the other books in the series, you will have no problem liking this one either because the previous characters are worked into the story smoothly.

I have always loved Susan's books. The Fool's Gold series has been a favorite of mine. In this one she deals with the age old question of ' can a man and woman be just friends?'

Shelby wants Aidan to just be friends for six months so they can learn about how the male and female should really be. After six months they will then go on their ways to be able to find someone one and fall in love.
I enjoy the characters of Fool's Gold and how they enteract with others. Since I hear this is the last in the series, I will miss them.
Found this to be a sweet romance of two characters I felt were right for each other.
I received an ARC for an honest review.

Fool's Gold does it again! Shelby Gilmore has had a rough and terrifying life. Thanks to Mayor Marsha, Ford and Angel, she is in Fool's Gold where her brother, world famous skier Kipling Gilmore has settled. Shelby is starting a new life working in the local bakery. Hometown boy, Aiden Mitchell is beginning to realize that he is getting quite a reputation as the town Casanova and knows that needs to change. Shelby sets out to prove that a woman and a man can be just friends and sets her sights on Aiden to be her friend. Sparks fly as these two spend more and more time together. This is their journey! Plenty of discoveries along the way. I enjoyed it very much! Love Fool's Gold!

Another great trip to Fool’s Gold! I love to ‘visit’ Fool’s Gold and “Best of My Love” was a wonderful read. I love meeting old friends like Shelby Gilmore and seeing love blossom between her and Aidan Mitchell. Even though I know the ending, I enjoy the journey enfolding as the book progresses. In Susan Mallery’s books, I can see past friends, and how their lives have progressed. Aidan has been playing around too long and Shelby has to gain some trust issue concerning men. They intend to be friends for six months with no benefits. I laughed out loud at some of the comical scenes in the book. If you love Susan Mallery stories you will love this one.

Last Hurrah in Fool's Gold!
That being said, I'm feeling quite sentimental, although I might be biased as I'm a sucker for a happily ended romance. In this installment we return to Fool's Gold to hear from Aidan and Shelby along with all our other friends! Best of my love makes us ask the question, can men and women truly just be friends? She'll and Aidan learn more about themselves, each other, and love along the way to answer this question. You probably have already answered the question by just reading this, Which leads many to say say it's formulaic and your basic Susan Mallery I think it was a nice ending to a fan favorite series. It's a nice, easy, and worthwhile read. Plus you are also introduced to our next favorite place, Happily Inc.

Great read Shelby sets up a 6 month friendship with town’s “visitors only “guy to help her get over her fear that all men hit people like her dad! I was not sure Aidan would go the distance or not! Why would he; he’s a short term relationship guy. I think Shelby picked Aidan because I think she thought he was a short term relationship guy and relatively safe. It is clear that neither one of them knew what a good relationship looks nor feels like. I think that is ironic that they both defend their friend status when they actually started what I’d call old fashioned courting. Once they realize they feel more than friendship, it all takes another crazy spin.

Once again a winner. I love Fool's Gold and all of the characters who live there. I remember starting with book 3 of the first year because I had never really read much before I retired and fell in love with the town the wonderful people and mostly with my favorite author, Susan Mallery. I have read just about everything that she has written. This one brought a lot of the previous characters together and I believe I might just have to start the series over from the beginning. You just can't help but fall in love because you feel like you are part of the story. Can't wait for the rest of this years to come out.

Meanwhile, back in Fool's Gold, babies are still being born and couples are still falling in love! Mayor Marsha is her usual, lovable busybody self as she recruits Shelby Gilmore and Aidan Mitchell to organize gatherings for singles who can be friends "without benefits" after she hears about their agreement to be "just friends" with a member of the opposite sex! Follow Shelby and Aidan as they attempt to learn the intricacies of sharing their lives without becoming physically involved...trying to learn how the opposite sex thinks! Mallery uses characters from past Fool's Gold novels to develop their story and help them discover that a couple can be both friends and lovers!

I am a member of Susan Mallery's Review Crew and they sent me this book, for free, to read and review. This book is part of the Fool's Gold series and is Shelby and Aiden's story. I really enjoyed their story. It's about how Shelby thinks that Aiden can help her heal and trust men again and that she can help Aiden change from being such a "lover of women". To accomplish this, Shelby proposes to Aiden that they become friends, that's it, just friends. I won't go into anymore detail, but I had a lot of laugh out loud moments when I read this book. If any of you have read and enjoyed a Fool's Gold book, I think that you will enjoy this story just as much as Susan Mallery has done it again!

Some readers wish to read the series in order It makes no difference e me. I've read some out of order. It doesn't matter as you begin to recognize the names from previous books. This book was based on Shelby & Aiden's as they were going to prove that a male and a female could be home friends. It was awkward for Aiden to be the sole male even at a baby shower. In return Shelby attended playing card games & let on that she was fine with this arrangement. There will be different situations which confuses their family and friends. I will leave yet another good book which I am sure all will appreciate. Enjoy the book.

First off I love Susan Mallery and Fool's Gold Series. That being said, some of the stories for that series do get a little routine and familiar. I was not a fan of the whole "Let's Be Friends" idea to begin with. I feel like Shelby was a little naive about the whole thing and Aiden just went along with it cause he was bored. The approach to the romance and their eventually physical union seemed forced. I kind of even felt Mayor Marsha's involvement was again expected and forced.
I did and do love getting the little slices of life from previous couples and characters but unfortunately that was what I looked forward too in this book.
Still can't wait for the next though.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very easy read. It pointed out the differences between men & women in a very light & fun way. I enjoyed reading about the different guy activities vs. girl activities that Shelby & Aidan did together. Picturing Aidan doing some of these girl activities that we just take for granted made me smile. Seeing them grow & evolve into more well-rounded individuals thanks to the other’s help & support was fun too. The input from friends and family is always a plus; it’s fun to see all your old friends from Fool’s Gold. And of course it’s always enjoyable to watch two people fall for each other when they don’t know it’s happening, and everyone else in the town does.

I enjoyed this book very much. Although it does seem a little unconventional, it is very nice to dream sometimes of these very things that went down in this book. Shelby and Aiden both came from abusive parents , therefore, needed to learn to trust in order to have al loving relationship. I think being friends before jumping into sex helped them learn a lot from each other and about themselves. Again, I love Fool's Gold and its occupants. It is nice to have a fantasy town where everyone cares about each other. Yes, sometimes there are bad but mostly good and it is nice to get away from the troubles of the world and enjoy love and life in Fools Gold !!!

Best of My Love is a cute, quirky, funny book. This is a story that has the hero and heroine become friends without benefits in order learn the differences in the sexes and how to get along. Shelby doesn't trust men because of her abusive father. Aiden doesn't want a relationship so has many quick hook ups until it comes back to bite him when he can't remember a woman's name that he had an affair with. Shelby and Aiden agree to spend 6 months together as friends, just hanging out and doing different activities. Their friendship teaches them both how to trust and to not judge from the past experiences which turns into a true love.

Can men and women be just friends? Shelby and Aiden agree to take six months and be just friends without sex getting in the way. Shelby needs to learn to trust men due to a painful past and Aiden needs to see women as people first. It starts out awkwardly, but they make a plan to alternate doing girl stuff and guy stuff. Some of the situations are hilarious. Aiden goes to a baby shower and Shelby plays Texas Hold ‘em with the guys. It works for them, but no one in Fool’s Gold believes they are just friends.
The problems start when they become more attracted to each other. How can they ignore their feelings and stay friends, not letting sex change their relationship? As we know, sex changes everything but not necessarily in a bad way. Aiden and Shelby work things out as they both grow in understanding of the other gender.
Susan Mallery is a master of creating fun, sexy stories that can also give you a new perspective. A visit to Fool’s Gold is always a delight.

I've waited for Shelby's story since the moment I learned about her in the Fool's Gold book on her brother, Kipling. And it was definitely worth the wait. I'm a big fan of relationships that begin with friendship, and I love the angle that Shelby and Aiden's story came from. They both have issues they need to work through and it was a perfect recipe to slow cook their way to their happily ever after. For those Fool Gold fans, you'll also appreciate the twist in the 'interventions'. That alone brought a smile and a few chuckles. As usual, Susan brought another hit to this series that is heartwarming, engaging and makes you feel like you are or wish you were a part of the whole community.

Best of my Love is one of my favorites fools Gold Books! Its the story of Shelby Gilmore and Aiden Mitchell. Shelby who has a painful past goes to "bad boy" Aiden who doesnt trust women ask for them to become "friends" for 6 months. Well its Fool Gold so anyone who has read tany of the books will know how it ends. But its what is in the middle that makes this book worth reading. Adien explores is sensitve side and "learns to listen" and Shelby "take chances" and explores new things. Plus, there is a sneak peak of Susan's new seris Happy inc. which I found to be an added bonus in the book. Best of My Love is a great feel good romance that will keep you smiling from the first page to the last!

Shelby needs a male friend to help her over her man issues! And shes found the perfect man to do the job in charming and sexy Aidan Mitchell. As these two set out to be platonic friends, the attraction and heat grows between them. As their friendship grows so does the towns suspicions that more than friendship is blooming!! Shelby's adventure into the mens club of Fool's Gold is endearing and funny. Aidan's dive into a womans world is hilarious! I truly enjoyed watching them become friends and find their forever!! Sweet, steamy and touching once again Susan Mallery delivers it all in her latest Fool's Gold love story!!

The Best of My Love is the latest installment in the Fools Gold Series (I’ve honestly lost track of what number in the series it is). This book focuses on Shelby (who has been a victim of domestic abuse via her father) and Aidan (who apparently sleeps with every female tourist passing thru town). Shelby approaches Aidan with the idea they become friends so she can learn to trust men and he can, I’m still not sure what he was getting out of this deal.

I struggled with this book. I didn’t buy Aidan and Shelby’s ‘friendship’. Friendships don’t develop because you force it – friendships develop over shared interests. And inserting each other into typical female or male situations? No way any of my male friends would get a pedicure. Or go to an all-female baby shower.

Overall, it was a quick and easy read. Fans that love the Fools Gold Series will probably be entertained. I just feel as if this series is getting boring. And overcrowded. I can’t keep track of who is with who and whatnot anymore (although I was provided additional promotional materials with a Fool’s Gold “Family Tree”. At least the more annoying aspects of Mayor Marsha have been removed (although she is still omniscient).
This is the second or third book as well in which references to characters moving to another town are made – so it would appear that there may be a spin-off to this series in a new town.

What a wonderfully sweet story. A bit different take on the friends to lover story because Aidan and Shelby were practically strangers when they became friends. But reading their journey from platonic friends to lovers was such a great trip. They were both so cute and sweet together. My favorite part was seeing how hot and manly-man Aidan got in touch with his feelings and his feminine side. It was pretty funny but also so endearing. Made me totally fall in love with him. And there was a slightly different twist towards the end that I loved reading too. Overall another great Fool's Gold addition.

Predictable, unbelievable plot and terribly written. I have read a handful of Susan Mallery's other work, and although most of them are predictable, the story lines are usually relatively believable. This book, on the other hand, has a plot that is so silly- the rest of the book could easily be guessed. I do not recommend, and am surprised by the number of positive reviews.

What starts out as an experiment for Shelby & Aidan, turns into much more but what do expect in Fool's Gold. Shelby was abused by her father & is leery of men. Aidan only hooks up with out of towners that come to do tours his company does. They decide to be friends for 6 months. In that time Shelby gets comfortable with men & Aidan learns not to use women. As usual things start to change. They both fight it but with the good people of Fool's Gold it doesn't always goes as planned.
Loved this book & can't wait for the next one. Susan Mallery writes funny, heart warming stories.

Best of My Love is Susan Mallery's latest installment in the Fools Gold Series. Shelby Gilmore is the heroine who is trying to deal with her painful past (abusive father). Aiden Mitchell is the hero and runs Mitchell Adventure Tours. Aiden is known as the guy who has one-night stands with tourists. Shelby proposes a "just-friends" relationship between the two of them to help them learn more about the opposite sex. They do all sorts of "men" and "women" activities, including poker games and manicures/pedicures. The book has Mallery's usual humor and is well written. I always enjoy my "trips" to Fools Gold, and this book was no exception. I'll be looking forward to the next installment to catch up with all of the Fools Gold residents.

Best of my Love, is Susan Mallery's latest foray into the world of Fools Gold,CA. In the book we meet and get to know Shelby Gilmore and Aiden Mitchell. Both for reasons of their own are looking to change the perspective on their relationships so they decide to attempt an experiment and become friends just friends. What will they find at the end of this, friendship, or perhaps even more?
For fans of Susan Mallery and Fools Gold, you will enjoy this very much. What's so great is that even if you've never visited Fools Gold you'll soon feel right at home. This is a great summer read for by the pool or at the beach.

I really liked the idea behind this book. Shelby needed to learn to trust men, give that her father was a real B***, and Aidan needed to see women as more than one night stands. What started out as issues with their fathers, they both realized that it was something else that was really the problem. Nice seeing two people working to really getting know each other rather than jumping in bed after two or three dates. I liked that swapping of girl things and boy things! I liked all the babies! I have said it every time I read a Fool's Gold book, I would like to live there

I've ready many books by Susan Mallery, including some in the Fool's Gold series. I find them very enjoyable. This one is about Shelby and Aidan. I really liked the characters, and could feel the chemistry with them. The book read very quickly. Like with the others, it was pretty light without a lot of the suspense that so many romance novels seem to incorporate nowadays. It was just fun. You do not need to read the other books, but it is nice if you did because there is a lot from the previous books in it. It was easy to read. I would recommend it.

I love returning to Fools Gold where happy endings can always be found with a lot of work and soul searching. Best of My Love did not disappoint. Shelby and Aidan are both being held back by their painful pasts. I enjoyed their journey together to self discovery. They both opened themselves to trying new things that were out of their comfort zones in order to understand the opposite sex. I was really touched by two quotes from Taryn to Shelby in a conversation late in the book, "I'm sorry the fear is still winning," and "There's a price to be paid for everything in life. Nothing is free."
The last is important for most of us to realize.

Susan Mallery's latest book; Best of My Love; fives the reader the hope that men and women can be friends and only friends. But it doesn't seem like it could happen in this instance. She gives us Shelby Gilmore and Aidan Mitchell who decided to be become friends and only friends. As their friendship progresses they start to fall in love with each other, but they keep it from each other. It becomes more difficult to keep their love for each other. They end up finding a way to be together through the thick and thin. This was one of the best Susan Mallery books in her Fool Gold series and I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of romance, Susan Mallery, and happily ever after's.

I love Susan Mallery and her Fools Gold series. The characters in this series didn't dissapoint. If you haven't read the prior few books, do yourself a favor and do that first or you won't understand the family dynamic that takes place in this book. I have loved this series from the start but I'm thinking we are reaching the end of the Fools Gold Road. In the last 2 books she has referred to a new town, Happy inc. I'm hoping that means a new series is coming our way soon. Good quick read but it's loosing some of the spark of some of the earlier books.

The latest and I think the last Fool's Gold book. This was my favorite Fool's Gold book of the last few, partially because the author didn't try to squeeze in appearances by every couple who've ever met and married in the past books of the series. More than that, though, it was a good story. Shelby, a woman who doesn't trust men because of an abusive father, and Aidan, a man who doesn't really know and understand women, decide to enter into a friendship experiment ("We're not dating!") to learn more about the opposite sex. Of course we know they'll fall in love! It's a romance novel! I am looking forward to Susan's next series, Happily Inc., based on another small town and its inhabitants, three of whom are Aiden's brothers. Can't wait!

I really enjoyed going back to Fool's Gold and seeing how the previous couples are doing. Mallery can always be trusted to write a book that is easy to read which means you will devour the book quickly. The book will also leave you feeling uplifted..

I admit that I did not like this couple as much as some of the others but it was still a well-written and enjoyable read. You knew that Shelby and Aiden were going to get together from the beginning but Mallery made sure that the reader enjoyed the ride. I wish that a little more time was spent on Shelby dealing with her past trauma. I felt that she was able to work through her problems fairly quickly.

If you've never read a Fools Gold book, I highly suggest it. This is one of my favorite series, the book was a great easy to read summer book. The book follows Shelby, an abuse survivor and Aidan who was committed to "dating" as many tourist as possible. It follows the pack they make to be friends for 6 months and what happens after the 6 months is over. I like the concept of the book, friends before lovers, take the time to get to know someone before you commit. If your looking for a good summer read this is it. **This is a stand alone book with a HEA ending.

Susan Mallery has done it again. She has given her readers yet another reason to wish that Fool’s Gold was a real town. Best of My Love allows the reader to check in with a few favorite families from previous Fool’s Gold stories, and meet some new favorite characters. In this installment, Aiden Mitchell realizes that he has become a horn dog, and sets out to learn to like himself again. Shelby Gilmore wants to learn how to be unafraid around men. So, the two come up with a plan to learn to be friends…only. Best of My Love is written with a bit of a twist in it; For once, it is not the man that does the leaving.

I really enjoyed "Best of My Love" Shelby and Aiden's story is rather unique, fun, and the best way to find love. No spoilers in this review, just know that you will be drawn in on page 1 and anxious to see what happens next in Fool's Gold when you get to page 379. It was fun to "catch up" with some of the favorite couples in this amazing little town. This series is one of my go-to series for when I just need to read something fun and heartwarming. This latest installment changes up the formula a bit, but it still delivers a fun and heartwarming story! I liked the fact that it wasn't like most romances, too -- the main characters were looking for friendship not romance. I really enjoyed this sweet book and loved that we still get to see what past characters are up to!

Another truly enjoyable Fool's Gold installment by Susan Mallery. This book explores if men and women can really be just friends with no romance between them. It is comical to read about the different Gender activities that are planned by Aidan and Shelby to do when they are hanging out as friends. While both Shelby and Aidan work though their issues, we delightfully revisit old friends that we have come to know and love in Fool's Gold. Each book in this series is better than the last. You will be in for a treat with this one!

As many Fool's Gold romances as there have been (fifteen? twenty? more?), Susan Mallery still manages to put together such disparate characters in such oddball situations that it makes one wonder exactly what is going on in her brain at any given moment. Best of My Love is yet another that sucks you in from the very beginning and keeps you reading (often overnight, when you should be sleeping!) until the very end. Will everything turn out all right? Of course! Does that stop you from reading? Heck NO! Loved it. When's the next one coming out?

I am never going to turn down the opportunity to read another Fool's Gold story- they are just so heartwarming & uplifting. The love story between Aidan and Shelby might seem like a bad idea because they don't have much in common but they have a special friendship that soon turns to lust & then to love. Its a fun ride to go on with the crazy in the best way citizens of Fool's Gold.

Shelby comes up with a plan how they can each help each other out as being just fire damage for 6 months so they can both get past their issues. It's hard to believe this is book #20 in the Fool's Gold series, but once again Susan Mallery has written a nice, warm contemporary romance story.

The writing is smooth and flows easily. The characters are sweet, funny and interesting. And the plot is full of humour, drama, and romance.

This is a cute, entertaining novel that is perfect for a light-hearted summer read.

This book is a nice easy read. It is nice to see a couple become friends before getting into a relationship. The story and characters were both enjoyable. It does get a little confusing trying to keep all the returning characters straight. There are some unrealistic parts of the book - Mayor Marsha and the single friend events (not needed in the story), pedicures (I doubt any man would go for that), the interventions, the final poker game. Maybe in a perfect world but men would not act that way. Sorry, I've never known any man to. Take it for what it is. An easy reading romance.

Best of my Love is another wonderful addition to The Fool's Gold series. I really enjoyed reading it and, as usual, hated for it to end and look forward to the next. As in all of Miss Mallery's books, Best of my Love is filled with wit, love and friendship. She always includes many of the characters from the previous stories and I always enjoy the interactions with Eddie and Gladys.
I prefer reading a series in consecutive order but any of Fool's Gold stories can be read as a "stand alone".

It's so hard to fathom that this is the end of the Fool's Gold series. Over 20 books spanning six years, in real time and in the books. We've gotten so many intertwined stories and I'm sure many readers want more. Thank you Susan Mallery for sharing your gift of story telling with us. Here's hoping the stories don't end with Aiden and Shelby. We still have a couple of Mitchell brothers to find mates for. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be a Happily, Inc story in our future.

Best of My Love – Susan Mallery
Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold Series is like returning home to catch-up with old friends.

Selby and Aiden each need a friend of the opposite sex to build their confidence. Selby has been abused and has trust issues. Aiden is the town ‘man-whore’ and need to clean up his reputation. They decide to become friends as they help each other. They have a set of rules and a 6 month deadline.

We hear from old characters as they try to help/advise/counsel. The women have a ‘Girls Party’ with Aiden. The men have a poker night with Selby. (It takes a village.)

It is a light, simple read but very hard to put it down. I loved this book

Shelby and Aidan have been through things in their past that they're trying to overcome. Shelby comes up with a plan that in order for both of them to move on with their lives, they should become platonic friends. No one believes that a man and a woman can just be friends without anything going on. I love the cast of characters in this series. If you haven't read the Fool's Gold series, you definitely should. Susan Mallery is a master at her craft and I highly recommend this book and this series!

I like Mallery's writing; I've read the Blackberry Island series and a few of the Fools Gold books. Maybe for me this series is out of steam. By this time in the development of a plot stream, there is almost no one left for angst and happlily ever aftering. Shelby and Aidan just did not work for me although it's always a treat to see favorite characters from the prior books. For completists and people who enjoy a sexy foregone conclusion.

Sweet story. I enjoyed the fact that Shelbie and Aiden became friends first. It wasnt just Bam they are in love. It was a beautifully told story about healing and growing to be a better person .It was a little repetitive in some spots but the story otherwise flowed nicely. Great read and I wanna live in Fool's Gold

Susan’s newest “Best of My Love” brings tour guide bad boy heartthrob Aidan together with vulnerable pastry chef, Shelby, on a journey of friendship and fun. Can they stay friends without benefits? Oh, how they try thinking they have outsmarted everyone – except themselves. Everyone in Fools Gold sees what they can’t – love has bloomed and Aidan has taken Shelby on a tasty tour of his heart. How long can they deny it? Only an intervention (or two) complete with margueritas and Texas Hold’em can help them see what is clearly right there in front of them.
Read it… you’ll love it!

I loved Shelby, while I don't think I could have gone up to a guy and asked him to be my friend with the reasoning behind the question like she did, I loved her tenacity. I love that Aidan changed for the better. I was worried where this story was going when Mayor Marsha stepped in, I did find the "singles" party hilarious. Most people don't believe that a man and a woman can truly be friends. I almost wish that they would not have gotten together and just remained friends.

Pedicures, poker games and a little pooch with a big personality. Best of My Love has to be one of my favorite Fool’s Gold books. Having Aiden and Shelby learn how to be friends opened the door for so many great book moments. Plus, seeing them accept what it takes to be friends, just friends, was such a wonderful growth for their characters. Of course they would fall in love, and you can bet that love will last a lifetime because they built a great foundation. This book will stay on my keeper shelf.

A wonderful change up when the "guy" can manage to conquer his "feminine" side!! Aidan Mitchell does a great job helping Shelby Gilmore conquer her "fears". Another funny twist (usually managed by the elders ,Gladys and Eddie) was the fact the normal gathering of women to "soothe and conjole" was held for Aidan !! What a great turn of events in Fool's Gold! Looking forward to getting to know Happily,Inc as well as we all got to know Fool's Gold!

This is a story about two people who want to change how they are. Shelby is afraid to trust a man and wants to try just friendship with a man so that she can then hopefully fall in love and get married. Aidan wants to change his tendency to sleep with tourists booking adventures with his company. Both Shelby and Aidan discover that being just friends is a good thing that can lead to love. A very funny book at times, I think this in one of Susan Mallery’s best Fool’s Gold books.

Aiden Mitchell and Shelby Gilmore need to change their lives. He was a tourist hookup and she trusted no men, as they have all disappointed her. They decide to “not date” but rather be friends. This means “hands off friends.” A funny thing happens with their experiment as they get to know each other better. This is a funny, warm book which I could hardly put down as I laughed and sighed with Shelby and Aiden. If you like contemporary romance, you will love this book.

When I picked up this book and started to read it, it transported back to when I started reading this series. It is like a blanket that you need only on those special occasions. However, when I started to read it, it showed a different side of man and woman relationships. I have never read a book that played on the man and woman just being friends, but then turn into something else. Also hitting on domestic violence, and have an insight on how that affects people. I got hooked right away, and could not put it down. Definitely a good read and would recommend it to everyone. Even if you have never read a book in the Fool's Gold series, it does stand alone by itself. Cannot wait to see what Susan Mallery will come out with next.

It seems that the Best of My Love is the final book in the Fools Gold series. I am sorry to see the series end but this book is a great way to end it. Shelby and Aiden were introduced to us in previous books and it was wonderful to follow along as they learned to trust, change and ultimately fall in love. Susan Mallery is such a gifted writer, I never tire of her books. I will be sorry to leave Fools Gold and hope that we have the opportunity to visit in the future.

Shelby and Aiden's book was so refreshing and light...This book reminds us how important friendship and love really do go together..
Shelby makes a bet with Aiden to be friends for 6 months which is a True test for a guy who likes to have lots of casual sex with tourists..
They learn how to accept guy and gal outings..what they didn't plan on doing was to fall for each other..
Best we get to also catch up with other friends from previous books..

As usual, I enjoyed my visit to Fool's Gold. Shelby & Aidan become friends to help each other become more comfortable with the opposite sex. They take turns picking what to do for their "date" and enjoy having a platonic friendship. At least for a while... I love catching up with all the folks, even though I did have to use the list to refresh my memory on who went with who and what book they belonged with. I hope there will be books about Happily Inc.

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters where very easy to connect with. It is also very well written, and very engaging. The story line was great and believable. I really enjoyed the whole male female role reversal. It added a nice bit of comedy. I had a hard time putting it down once I picked it up. I can't wait for the next installment in the Fools Gold series. I really love seeing the characters from other books and getting updates on their lives, that is the great thing about a contiuing series.

I might be a guy, but I truly admire Susan Mallory's writing. Yes, this is women's fiction, but I think it deserves attention from the masculine audience because of the way the author goes into the woman's mind and emotions. This maybe be "chick lit", but it represents the genre at it's best. Needless to say, it's must reading for the ladies and possibly surprisingly revealing for the few men like myself that dare to give it a read.

Shelby Gilmore has a mission. She has chosen Aiden Mitchell as the person to help her conquer her habitual choosing of the “wrong type” of guy. Susan Mallery has again taken her readers back to Fool’s Gold where this wonderful story unfolds. I believe every couple should try some of the activities that Shelby and Aiden do as they explore what it is like to concentrate on friendship instead of romance, at first anyway!! I love the recurrence of familiar characters as they weave through this storyline. I love to see how their lives are unfolding. I always enjoy Susan Mallery’s books, but this one really spoke to me!! I encourage all to read & enjoy!! Well Done!

I am a huge fan of Susan Mallery, I have read each Fool's Gold novel at least twice.

Aidan and Shelby just might make it into my top three couples in FG ( of course Felicia and Gideon will always be my faves). Aidan wants to be a better person, both where women are concerned and in general. Shelby wants to heal enough to find a man and make a life.

This book is a fun, interesting read. There is a little twist at the end that I thought was FUN.

Susan Mallery"s Fool's Gold series is one of my favorites. I love that characters from other books in this series are incorporated into the story. I loved this story! It was a fun read. I thought the just for friends idea between Shelby and Aidan made was a fun idea! Really I knew it was not gonna happen! I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love the Fool's Gold series, everytime I read a new book in the series I feel like I've been home for a visit and I don't want the book to end. Best Of My Love can be read as a stand alone book but it is wonderful to catch up with all the people we love from past books in the series.
Shelby and Aidan are both a little broken and join together to help each other heal/change. Their growth and development throughout their journey is sometimes a little painful and often laugh out funny! This book is a great read as a stand alone book but I highly recommend starting at book one if you are new to the series.....You will thank me later:-)

A different kind of romance makes this book a great read. Shelby and Aiden agree to just be friends for six months and forget about romance all together. But somehow, the more they get together the more they fall in love with each other. And all their friends can see that they are in love before they realize it themselves. The folks in Fool's Gold are fascinating and I love to see what they are up to next, especially Gladys and Eddie.

I think this may be my favorite of all the Fools Gold books so far. I have read all of the books in the series, and each time I read a new Fools Gold book, it makes me feel happy. I'll have to admit I'm a sucker for any of the Fools Gold series books. And I wasn't disappointed with this book. I liked the premise of a woman and man being just friends. I enjoyed the two of them swapping gender specific events and doing things they probably wouldn't have done otherwise. Without giving away to much of the story yes they do end up together as Susan Mallery always makes sure there is a happy ending. I have to say it's probably one of my favorite of the Fools Gold series. The town sounds like a great place to live in and I see maybe a possible spin off in the future with Happily Inc and the rest of the brothers from the Mitchell Family.

Susan Mallery's work in this book was excellent. I loved the details on the character's lives and how they started out as a work in progress. The twist in Shelby and Aidan’s story is that it’s not a traditional romance but an experiment in understanding the opposite sex. Sigh, if only men could be so open and willing to change at the drop of a hat. The book was another fun visit to the fantasy town of Fool's Gold. We get to see a glimpse of old characters and see others struggle to overcome their weakness. It was enjoyable to see Shelby work through her past but Aiden is just too perfect. Some conflict would have been a great counter for the sweet growing "friend only" relationship. Who's next? Happily, Inc. ?

Best of My Love is one of the best of the Fool’s Gold Series. We follow the two main characters Aidan and Shelby as they decide to become friends only, no romance for them… Along the way we get to catch up with old friends in Fool’s Gold, who of course have their own ideas of what Shelby and Aidan should do.
As Shelby and Aidan’s story unfolds, we see the humor, friendship, caring and even drama that always accompanies those who live in this town. We are drawn into watching Shelby and Aidan discover who they are and what they really want.

Another Fool's Gold novel with the happy ending like others. This book brought back previous characters and as always, Susan weaves the story well. If you like romance like I do, then just don't look at the book on the shelf....pick it up, read it and you won't be disappointed.

I had a hard time putting this book down. I really enjoyed the growing friendship between Shelby and Aiden, and seeing them learn how the other thinks. Too bad more men and women can't listen more without giving unwanted advice.

I loved it. This was my favorite Fool's Gold book - and a beautiful way to end the series. I loved Shelby & Aidan's story and the introduction to Happily Inc. I can't wait to see what's in store there!

I love the way all of Susan mallery fools gold series goes the story makes you feel like the people and town are very festive and happy. The mayor seems to know what is going to take place magically before the people in the story does

The Fool's Gold series is one of my favorites, and I was more than pleased to read the latest book in the series! Susan Mallery really knows how to engage the reader to make them feel as if they are in the town of Fool's Gold. It is as if these characters are your friends because you get to know them so well. Thank you again for another amazing novel, Susan!

Fool's Gold - a happy ending town - and who doesn't like happy endings. We all want to live there and that's what we get to do in these books. I'm not a dog person but it made an interesting addition.

Really liked how Susan introduced the two main characters to each others way of thinking and dealing with life's ups and downs. Lots of laughs, a few tears, and always lots of fun with the residents of Fool's Gold. A fun, light, feel good read.

Shelby Gillmore and Aidan Mitchell, want to be better people. Shelby wants to learn to trust men again and Aidan wants to change the way he was with women. The agree to help each other out. Shelby had Aidan doing things that women do and Aidan had Shelby do things that men do.
The book was funny and found it very interesting. From baby showers to cards. Really don't want to say much as don't want to give things away. As usual an awesome book. Am sure you will love it.

Can men and women really be only platonic friends? This is another fun Fools Gold story - what do you think? Aiden finds his feminine side. Shelby finds how to trust men. And the readers find enjoyment and humor in the pages in between.

Aidan and Shelby agree to be "just" friends and spend time leaning about the opposite sex. They enjoy activities together, learn to respect each other, and their friendship grows...and who better to have a relationship with than your best friend!

I was sorry to see that this would be the last book in this series as I have enjoyed the Fool's Gold books, but I was very disappointed in this book. I found the storyline to be, frankly stupid. While I love Susan Mallery's books and her characters, this one was lacking.

This book had a really slow, kind of boring story line. It took a while for it to really start getting interesting. I also thought that the part where Aidian and Shelby hook up was also a little overly-detailed and TMI. Too 50 shades-ish. Other than that, pretty decent book

Not real crazy about love stories. Like mysteries better. This was so predictable. Not really any thing that really kept you wanting to read the rest of the book. Knew how it would end when I had just read a few chapters.
