I absolutely loved this personal story of a girl that loses her parents and end up going through a difficult process in the foster care system. The style of writing, symbolism, and topic was all so captivating!

Counting by 7s was definitely the most heartfelt book I have every read. It taught me amazing life lessons and showed the importance of close friends who support you. This book tells you not the cry because it happened, but to smile because you can make it through it.

This story is both simple and beautifully complex. The character's voice is refreshing and so mature.
The story itself is neatly written, beautifully arranged so it feels complete at its end. Very worth a read.

I loved loved loved this book. It was recommended to me by a relative, who herself is an author. This book had a perfect amount of emotion. And the large beauty was the main character, Willow Chance. There are no words i know of in the English language that can describe Willow. She is a genius. NOT a nerd. She has this innocent hopeful outlook on life. It is beautiful.

My 12 year old granddaughter recommended this book. Loved it because it was so insightful. She said I would like it; not sure if that is because I currently have two foster grandchildren (not her) that I sometimes struggle with. I love her for the recommendation...I've learned a lot from reading it.

You will be fascinated by Willow Chance; 12 yr old genius. This is a tale of emotional survival after Willow's parents die in an accident and there are no next of kin. It's a tale about new beginnings that are fabulously unexpected.

Terrific Book. We read it aloud and our whole family Enjoyed it. The characters are more than a little quirky, and the book is often funny. But the story grows increasingly poignant, even uplifting.

A wonderful story that confronts the misrepresentation of drug abuse in schools and life. In a very meaningful and almost unnoticeable way it opens a kids minds to the real dangers of the drugs that surround us as well as breaking with the way we look at people who are drug addicts. Somehow by making the world of drugs an understandable reality I feel they are more prepared for the real world of drugs and the way they are presented to us.

I read this to my 9 year old who loved it and wondered if it was the best book written ever. My 14 year old did not want to read it but ended up not being able to put it down. I also liked the way how it wove in the idea of powerlessness. I would say this is a necessary book for kids to read...

This book is an interesting study in human frailty, fault's and feelings. You grow to love the characters because of their flaws. The story is beautifully written and satisfying. I would love to read more about what happens to their lives !

Willow is a genuinely funny child who has the ability to inspire those around her to reach higher. This book is full of hope and is a Great read for preteens. Would make for a great classroom read and stimulating discussion on resilience.

Counting by 7s is an excellent novel with a character who has a well-developed voice. The main character, Willow Chance is a middle school genius who is accused of cheating and has to begin seeing the school counselor who realizes she didn't cheat at all. When tragedy strikes her, she has to learn to navigate the world as a genius with no family guidance. It's a story of finding new family, but Willow's voice is really the standout characteristic of this novel. A great middle grades read!

This was a delightful story, touching my heart. As a long time Bakersfield resident and a teacher with BCSD I totally appreciate the detailed references to local landmarks. I fell in love with Willow and her perfect, imperfect friends.
