This book was too fragmented. It got going, halted, then stumbled around. Too many characters , none of which were ever fully developed. Lots of questions but no answers. I kept wondering when the plot would make an appearance. I felt like I wasted my time reading this one.

Story held my interest. Looking forward to the next book. Science is fascinating. Moral issues of good versus evil are explored and an explanation is offered. Book leaves you asking more questions. Good character development.

Having just finished this book I am left confused as to why it has received so many great reviews. The story concept is ok, if a bit of a rip-off of Chrichton's Sphere, but the writing is so poor that I found myself cringing on nearly every page. The author frequently broke narrative to explicitly state his own opinions about the characters and actual current events.

Unless I missed a few chapters at the end, it would seem that a number of storylines, and even a character, were left hanging; not just unresolved as a setup for a sequel, but actually forgotten.

There is an AI character that is so technologically advanced that it would present a revolutionary shift in all of human existence, but instead it is just sort of along for the ride as some minor character's sidekick.

I'm inclined to believe that this author's skipped the crucial process of editorial review.

This has two different plot lines, which converge at the end. On one side we see Geophysicist Jack Greer and his team of scientists who believe they may have found the asteroid that killed off the Dinosaurs. They are drilling off the Yucatán coast, with the hope of getting a sample, when they suddenly drill into something that will change everything!

Meanwhile, geneticist Dr. Mia Ward is baffled with the strange illness that has been popping up. She receives a package from her former mentor Alan Salzburg that contains clues to what this illness could be. But someone doesn't want her decoding the information and she is attacked. With the help of a friend she escapes, but is on the run trying to find the answers before it's too late. When these two finally come together, its with some shocking thoughts about life on earth.

This book was awesome!! It almost feels like two separate stories for the most part, which I actually really liked. Jack's side of the story was fascinating and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. The idea of searching for the asteroid was enough for me, but when they find the thing in the water, it was thrilling. Following them into the ship kept me on the edge of my seat. When you think you have things figured out, well the author just throws something else into the mix that makes you think.

Mias story was just as fascinating but with the added bonus of action and adventure thrown in. She is trying to figure things out, all the while trying to stay alive. She is trying to figure out this illness that has spread so quickly. Her findings bring some truly shocking results and I loved finding things out along with her. I can't wait to find out more!!!

In all, this was a thrilling read. Once I started, I had a hard time stopping because there was always something happening and I needed to see what happened next. I am so looking forward to book 2 of this as it did end on a bit of a cliff hanger.

Gary Tiedemann read this well. His tones and cadences brought this to life and he easily kept my attention throughout. He gave each character their own voice, which made following the book a lot easier. I've listened to a good few that he has narrated and have enjoyed his performance each time.

I was given this free audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

A believable story that moves right along! I like a ufo story that doesn’t involve shoot em ups in a galaxy far far away. This involve a ufo found right here on earth, intact, and almost functional. The story is what does it mean to us, and especially to our origins. There are a few interesting twists, none of them out of the realm of possibilities. I would have enjoyed a more detailed exploration of the downed ship and a little more about alien technology. I would have given it one more star. Oh well, maybe in the sequel!

Interesting premise, but poorly written to the point of distracting. The characters are one-dimensional. Particularly the female lead, who is supposedly some sort of research scientist without the slightest bit of scientific reasoning skills. The characters on a dozen occassions share their entire life story (including abuse, divorce, infidelity, etc) with complete strangers.

If you want the same concept, but well written, read AG Riddle.

i stayed up all night reading this book. i really look forward to the next book. dealing with this phenomenon, characters and the reader try to identify the object. i really enjoyed being wrong several times, but the author’s ideas were much better than mine. i rarely write reviews, but this book was worth losing sleep.

The author definitely knows his scientific stuff and wraps it in a whirlwind of intrigue, personal animosity and larger scale violence. His characters, especially the leading female and male protagonists, are sufficiently well drawn to make them believable and engaging. Although the entire earth is threatened, we are most invested in the fate of those individuals. Leaves you thirsty for the next book.

An ideal book that keeps the reader turning pages.
This is the kind of story where you will be delighted with the characters and interplay between two storylines that come together quite nicely in the end. The fictional aspect does not overreach and the use of actual scientific fact gives a nice level of credibility to the overall story. Take a moment to re-read the science parts and you'll be rewarded with learning something new.

I really like books about ancient artifacts, human origins, archeological and anthropological discoveries, ancient cultures and this book did not disappoint! Full of likable as well as disagreeable characters, this book had just enough mystery and action to keep me reading well past my bedtime. It also had a medical mystery which is another of my favorite topics. I highly recommend this book!

This give us all thought provoking ideas on how the human race was actually designed & evolved. The workings of the human body & mind have always been a source of review on the evolution scale. To think how all is entwined makes the idea of alien manipulation a constance source of questions without answers.

Can't wait for the next books continuation of the theory .

The problem for me in books sold as literature but really nothing more than first drafts of b movies is not the money spent but the time wasted i beg publishers to be be honest in their marketing strategies

Although a very common plot these days, the book offers a very fast pace story with a credible sequence of events, nothing forced or too far out (except obviously for the submerged UFO part). Very interesting approached smartly combining facts with fiction, I will definitely buy the sequel. Great narrative, not dragging on and able to maintain the reader's attention.

Having read several novels about early life on earth and how where we might have find our origins, I’m always intrigued how the story lines play out. This one is s good one and I plan to keep this series in my “to be read books”. I like he how he summarizes the science and science fiction in the appendix at end.

James D. Prescott has written a winner! So worth your time to read it. Cliff hangers galore. Keeps you interested and your brain going full speed. Characters are well seated and you find yourself cheering them on. Can't wait to read the next book.

Extinction Code was an interesting take on aliens tinkering with the human genome. The story was fast paced, yet still allowed some character development. In my opinion the negative was how quickly and smoothly one of main characters got out of compromising situations, and was inserted into other parts of the story line with relative ease.

Holy Macaroni! This storyline is divided into two stories. I did struggle some to get through the book. Even with that said, the gist of the story shakes you to the core. The idea that the human race was affected by aliens and that the meteorite was actually a spaceship.

This book is one constant advertisement for Soylent drink. Why anyone would name a product Soylent just baffles my mind, every time I hear Charlton Heston say, "Soylent Green is people!"
Also a bad knock off of Michael Crichton sphere.

Extinction Code is a well written story with interesting characters and a two pronged interwoven plot line which dovetails together for an evocative conclusion. Can't wait for book two, I'm so charmed by the main characters that want to see where they go and what they do. .

Much better than I anticipated. Wasn't over the top in plausibility. Certainly interesting speculation on on our planet and it's inhabitants.
Wouldn't recommend it to those who can't entertain thought beyond the bible.

This started out interesting but then there were suddenly so many characters, so many full backgrounds, so many backstories, so many subplots, so many distracrtions—from the Astros to farm animals— that I had no idea what was going on.
