Good - but not a complete book. So I was surprised when the story stopped and had to be continued "buy" getting the next part of the story " book". Or maybe I'm old and unfamiliar with the ways of the digital world. Those ole-timey books when you got to the end the story was over.

Maybe I've read too many stories because this one just wasn't that interesting. Too much time was spent on the bus. (A plot point in the story, that didn't have much of a point.) No real character development. Various characters were trotted out, but not much more than that.

I don't know the whole thing seemed very sophomoric. Maybe the target audience was supposed to the young adult crowd (not me), or like I said I've just read too many of these kinds of books and my expectations were just too high.

I also get immediately annoyed by any book where the lead character has an tripe action hero name. Jack Bunker. Why not call him Mike Wolf, or John Stone or something as equally inane.

There were some other minor errors and typical mistakes about fire arms. Hint: While your characters can be gun dummies you the author never get to be one. Other silly errors like saying the tree was 10 feet away and then using a couple of yards (6 feet) of material to make up the difference. Things like 40 lbs of rocks and a piss rope (as in a rope that was pissed on) made from kids belts (ever met a kid that wore a belt, much less 20 of them? Yeah me neither), used to offset 20 kids (1500-2000+lbs) worth of weight to keep the bus from see sawing off a cliff.

Meh, overall not that good of a book. I won't be going on to book 2.

Nothing special about this book. An EMP supposedly happens, but then it's just one rescue and a couple of very minor events, and then it's done. The hero never explains anything about his past, and nothing ever really develops.
Post-Apocalyptic Nomadic Warriors (A Duck & Cover Adventure Post-Apocalyptic Series Book 1) :: Genome (The Extinction Files Book 2) :: Frozen Earth (A Post-Apocalyptic Technothriller) - Rogue Star :: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival series (Dark Road Book 1) :: Extinction Code (Ancient Origins Series Book 1)

To make this short and to the point (which certainly isn't what the author did with the bus rescue). There's an EMP strike and a bus with school children wrecks and after the longest rescue in shtf literature it's time for book 2. The 'cover' of this story should have had a bus on it instead of someone geared for combat. The story/characters certainly have potential but this felt more like a few chapters stretched into a novel. Five stars really? If book 2 was $.99 maybe but I think I'll pass.

As another reviewer stated, the story is full of fluff. Very disappointing as this "series" is like he took chapters of one novel and decided to sell them as separate books. This "book" is like the first 2 or 3 chapters of a normal novel. There are better EMP stories out there and they don't try to take advantage of the readers. On the plus side, it the editing is well done and it's a very easy read, though much too short.

While some of the writing style is a little uneven, overall this was a good book. Since the main character and the two that tag with him are going back to her troubled hometown, it is easy to see some of the coming conflict. Good start to a series. There is mystery about the background of Bunker. that will be revealed at some point.

How does one respond when the unsuspected occurs and you are trying to face into the woodwork but you can't just let someone who needs help suffer because you think you don't want to get involved. Fast moving and intriguing. A stopping point rather than an ending as part of a series.

Pretty good read. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Jack Bunker. He's made a move to change his life. His former life is something he'd like to forget. He's on a train that's going through the Rockies headed for Denver. Its a train that has loads of great scenery to see. That's what Jack's doing. Looking at the magnificent scenery and hoping his former employer isn't able to trace where he is.

Bunker is a big guy. Broad shoulders, narrow waist A very capable guy. A guy who has one duffle bag with him and that's it. He had to sell his dearest possession to get the money to leave his old life behind and he sure as hell hopes his old life doesn't catch up to him. Jack spent time in the military and he uses that training to stay one step ahead.

A woman, a really good looking woman, and her son are sitting across from him and the kid, as kids do, is curious and asking questions at one rapid pace. Jack doesn't mind and has no problem speaking with the kid. His mother is busy with her phone and has been texting non stop. Jack wonders just what the hell is so important on that phone.

The train is making its way up one steep grade when all of a sudden it stops. All the passengers phones and tablets die. All at the same time. Jack decides something is very wrong. In fact he knows an EMP has hit. He also knows as soon as the people on the train figure out what he already knows chaos will erupt.

The woman, Stephanie King introduces herself and son Jeff. She asks Jack if he knows what's going on and Bunker decides to tell her. That's when they spot an airliner on its way down. An airliner headed right for the train. No Bunker knows an EMP has hit and more airliners will be falling from the skies. This one misses the train and takes out part of the tracks on its way down.

Jack heads for the front of the train and speaks with the engineer and the conductor who's train had been upgraded to all electronics which is why it stopped. They also tell Jack that the plane, an all white plane with no markings probably came from Area 51 which isn't that far away and was headed for NORAD. Jack decides right then that he is leaving, headed South back to the town of Clearwater.

Stephanie says she and Jeff will be going with him and tries to get him to head North to Denver. No way does Jack want to head for a big city because he knows what will be happening in a big city. Jack isn't pleased by this but decides they can follow him.

So begins one pretty good read.

This one has Jack, Stephanie, Jeffrey, a Stephanie who was recently divorced from Bill King who owns and runs a silver mine in Clearwater a place Stephanie was escaping from, a Jeff who's a great kid, the town of Clearwater, Chief of Police Gus Apollo, Mayor Buckley, a town that now has no power, a group of trapped miners in the King mine, a group of kids missing after they were taking a field trip, the town citizens who want the Sheriff to fix everything right now, a Jack and Stephanie who stumble on the bus loaded with at least fifty kids, a bus teetering on the edge of a cliff, a Jack and Stephanie who find a way to get the kids out, a Chief Apollo who deputizes some town citizens because he knows he will need help, Deputy Grace Clark who's the only real deputy in Clearwater, a Daisy who heads for Frank Tuttles house because the Mayor and Chief have figured out an EMP has hit and they need a Geiger counter and figure Frank will have one, a Frank who's a loaner and has bunkers, a huge pole barn and tons of supplies at his house, a Frank who sells Daisy the Geiger counter for three bucks, a Frank and Steph who finally get some help from the Clearwater Deputies on horseback and they head for Clearwater with the kids, a Bunker who speaks with the Mayor and Chief and lets them know his thoughts on the loss of power, a Jack who really would like to walk away but doesn't, a Steph who's a hard woman and Jack Bunker doing his best to help those he can, keep his secrets and survive.

Five Stars.

We start with our main character, in a simple setting. Building knowledge about him and his past in an innocent fashion; it all seems so normal. Then the line ‘mommy, mine too’, as our character observes the child’s electronic learning device.....my stomach dropped and pulse quickened and by the end of the 1st chapter my heart was thumping and I found myself wishing I could read faster! Set in a world on the edge of a truly apocalyptic event, our character must struggle to save himself and other's he meets on his way, while trying to discover whats happening to the world with out the world discovering too much about him!
As Always, Jay j Falconer leaves me chopping at the bit in his fast paced, and action packed world, with characters that make you feel for them and situations you feel you are actually in! The story keeps you wanting for more and keeps the suspense up throughout, I can’t wait for the next book!!

Totally unexpected. I am dying to know Bunker's background story. The build up of the characters left me wanting more. Storyline very fresh. Excited that book #2 is out already.

Author, Boyd Craven suggested that this would be a great read. Have to trust the guy, he knows how to pick them. 5+ stars. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I.

Well developed characters easy to identify with. Fast paced action from the first page to the last, which is tough to do in an introductory story. Did not put it down and read it in a single day. Recommended for people who like survivalist stories. It does seem that the central concept is being written about by many authors. But, the characters keep your interest. Plenty of hooks set in for next set of stories.

This book had some excellent writing. The characters are being developed well and I look forward to them becoming even more in book 2. The scenario is good and makes sense. I found the entire book entertaining and hard to stop reading. I would recommend it to those who truly enjoy the Post Apocalyptic Genre.
