Love In A Fix: A Contemporary Christian romance (Modern Conveniences book 1) is by Leah Atwood. It is a quick read and a good story of second chances. It is very realistic.
Lyndsey Allen is trying to keep her head above water and raise her son Josh. With her husband’s sudden death in a car crash, she had to go back to work and is even working two jobs to try to pay the bills. Now her oven quit working. What else can go wrong? While waiting until it is time to go to the church, she goes through her bills and finds the mortgage payment. It is overdue and she is sure the bank if not interested in extending it again. What is she going to do?
At the church, she runs into Shep Patterson. Shep was her husband’s best friend and his late wife Miranda was her best friend. He has helped her out on several things around the house since Mark died. Since he wouldn’t take payment for those jobs, she is timid around him. Her son Josh tells him about the oven and he suggests he will fix it. Reluctantly she agrees but only if she can repay him with dinner.
After she cancelled on him twice, Shep is finally going to fix the oven. Luckily it is a quick and easy fix. The dinner she prepared was delicious. After dinner they talk and she reluctantly tells him that she is going to lose the house. She decides to put it up for sale and hopefully have some money left over. When she gets an apartment, Shep helps her move. The apartment is so bad, he doesn’t want her to move in and neither does she. Instead, he asks her to marry him. It will be a real marriage but one based on respect and friendship, not love.
Will the marriage work?

I like marriages of convenience because you get to watch the love grow in a different way. This was a cure story but not my favorite by this author. It was a little too predictable. I honestly think I would have liked a longer story with deeper character development. I'd still say go ahead and read it though.

Another great read by Leah Atwood! This was the first in the series, but I read them out of order by mistake. Still enjoyable, though, in any order! I did find myself wanting to yell at these two characters because it was clear that they had feelings for one another that they were communicating all that well. Later on in the book, though, it actually made for a better plot, as it was realistic to the way that relationships sometimes go. Loved the ending and look forward to reading more by this author!

This book started with an interesting idea and held my attention throughout. However, some of the plot lines were predictable--which was disappointing. Excellent character development with compelling back stories. This series has great potential but I hope the unpredictable aspects that set it apart from similar books continues throughout the book and not in spurts. Leah Atwood is one of my favorites and I love that she is seeking to delve into new concepts.

When things were at their darkest, Lindsey finally allows Shep to help her. They have both suffered the tragic loss of a spouse. Neither believes they can love again. The story is a sweet journey of two broken people letting God show them how to love and trust again. This is the first book in a series, but it ends with a nice little bow as all good romances should!'

I loved the fact that her late husbands family admitted their flaws and asked for forgiveness. He kept his promise to his best friend and helped her thru all the ways to keep her home with heat, cook stove working and his uncanny way of perception

A 'feel good' book if there ever was one. Delightful and easy to read. Fast moving. I read it in one sitting. I love reading books by Leah Atwood. I don't have to worry about inappropriate language or graphic sex. Refreshing.

Loved the sweet romance between Shep and Lyndsey. Shep is the rare man who sees opportunity in step parenting rather than burden. Count it all joy, my friends, for life is short and better days are coming for His children.

This book was so sweet, heart-warming, and well-written that I immediately bought and read the next two, plus the bonus novella Waiting on Love.
Shep is such a solid, caring guy. Lyndsey has a young son and more than enough determination to see them both through. I loved that though both had lost spouses, they acknowledged their previous marriages as important parts of their pasts that were not to be forgotten, but also no longer center stage of their lives. It was pleasing to watch them learn to blend their new lives through this marriage of convenience and fall in love for real.

Sweet, sugary, and fairly mindless. The author doesn’t really build much tension or draw you in to the characters. Lots of things are explained rather than learning about them through their experiences.
