Most women spend their lives being told how NOT to get pregnant, so when the time comes to achieve the opposite, many of us don't even know where to start! It turned out to be a lot more complicated and harder than I imagined it might be. This book was a great resource for an older mom TTC. It dispelled a lot of myths about age and pregnancy in your 30s and 40s. Well written, and backed up by scientific facts, making it an enjoyable as well as informative read.

It will help you get pregnant, full of great info. But even more important it will help you feel better. It was so nice to read someone with the same mindset as me just explain the issues, provide some facts and most importantly: frankly acknowledge the crazy feelings and thoughts we all have. Wonderful book.

This book is super annoying. First off, just read Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. That book is the most informative and helpful that I've ever read.
Anyway, this book does have some helpful information (nothing that wasn't mentioned in the above book recommendation) but the tone was too much. It portrays the husband/partner to be ignorant, ill-informed and not willing to help in the trying to conceive (TTC) process. The other negative reviews were right, and I wished I had listened. I just assumed since I'm not a jaded individual that gets offended easily, it wouldn't be an issue for me. Oh, but it was. The authors "wanna be bestie" voice came across as fake and not funny in the slightest. And I laugh at everything! I just wanted to console my spouse after reading this, like I'm sorry if I've ever made you feel like the woman who wrote this feels towards her significant other. I really tried to enjoy this but it was not worth it at all. I'm super bummed too because of all the positive reviews, I thought I'd at least like it. Perhaps if you have yet to read any TTC books or done any research on your body at all, then maybe you might find some helpful information. Otherwise, definitely read Taking Charge of your Fertility instead and don't waste your time or money on this

If you buy just one preconception book, this should be the one. It was not only informative, but funny! I completely related with the author on the emotional roller coaster that is the TWW. I trusted her advice, which stopped my persistent googling. Although I am in my early 20's and we haven't been trying that long, I am a worrier and very impatient! I was experiencing a lot of 'what if' thoughts and this book really helped me feel more relaxed and hopeful. I feel a little less crazy ;) I'll be re-reading this many times in the unfortunate event that I am not about to get pregnant right away. This book is invaluable with how much it has helped my emotional health while TTC.

Easy, quick read that confirms what you think you already know... But you're not totally sure. Funny writing helps take the serious nature of trying off. I got pregnant the cycle after I read it! Tips must have helped!

It really felt like talking to a friend, I totally saw myself in the obsessive behaviors (glad I'm not the only one). Wish I read it sooner, cause now I know I wasn't doing my OPKs the right way, you really can't trust everything you read online.

Good for a giggle and great information. I love how she references her sources and provides studies. It's a great way of looking at it.

The only thing I didn't enjoy so much was her assumption all women would want to avoid calories at any cost, suggesting only switching to full cream dairy if ones weight was under control even though full cream is proven to help.

Clean eating, regular exercise and increased fertility are more important than a few extra calories.

Okay, this is probably coincidence, but we conceived a few weeks after I was done reading this book.
It is really good read, it's funny, and it makes you not want to put it down. Very informative. I loved it!!

I really enjoyed this book. It made a stressful topic interesting, light-hearted, and funny, with a lot of important information that is offered to the reader with an optimistic approach. I highly recommend it. After reading it, I have gone back to re-read certain important sections.

i bought this book because the title described me exactly. the book was as others mentioned super easy/quick to read, a little humorous, sensitive and full of info. it does break down most things in an easy to understand fashion. however, i did find SOME of info in the book to be a little conflicting... Also, my main takeaway was to buy OPKs & the ClearBlue fertility monitor & also buy ANOTHER BOOK (Taking Charge of Your Fertility) to learn how to chart your bbt. According the author if you use these three things, time your intimacy accordingly, you should get preggo in 6 months or less (usually 3) OR if not you should go seek medical help if you want at that point. That really was the crux of the book, so you could just do these things & save money. The book also has a few chapters on how to stay sane during the whole trying process but most of these tips were pretty basic, mental-healthcare tips. The best part of reading this book is feeling more normal knowing manyyyy other women are experiencing the same stress involved with TTC, and just learning that all those tests/monitors are really not a waste a $$ (according to the author).

I'm 36yo recently married and ready to conceive! This was my first book on pregnancy and a great first choice. We got a positive test result after only three months of "paying attention" and charting.

Good info but if you already read real scientific studies and not Dr. Google or some random who-haw on the internet, you probably already know most of this evidence-based boosters. This is also very much geared to hetero folks and those not dealing with real infertility issues- if you are already involved with IUI and IVF, this book will probably not be helpful and may annoy you.

This was the first book I purchased after experiencing some disappointments while TTC. I took lots of great notes and went back numerous times to review information. After having read a few more books since, I can say that in comparison, it doesn't cover some topics as thoroughly as it could, but it is an EXCELLENT book. It gave me a great foundation for learning and I implemented many of the suggestions immediately. If you love to learn this book will definitely spark your interest towards finding more and more...until of course you have your BFP! I'm still optimistic and using each new month to try more and more of what I learn.

I'm definitely what the author would describe as an "Impatient Woman," and I saw myself reflected so much in this book, but with a delightful humor and sympathy of someone who has been there. It is cleverly written, genuine and honest, and includes a ton of "myth busting" information challenging widely-held beliefs about trying to conceive (including some still held by conventional medicine). Reading this book has made me more optimistic about my chances of conceiving naturally and relatively quickly, and has been more of a comfort than any other book, e-book, website, or pamphlet I've read so far.

My favorite bit of advice -- ignore people who say "Just relax!", because there's no evidence that being anxious about wanting a baby does you any harm. But what the author describes as "rumination" does, and the tips on avoiding rumination have been helpful to me personally. I would highly recommend this book to any other obsessive cycle trackers, message board posters, and Google research addicts (like me), because this book is smart and a quick read, and really does offer a refreshing perspective on all the thoughts and emotions TTCers face. If following Dr. Twenge's advice leads to those two lines I've been looking for, she'll be getting a personally written thank-you note for sure!

I was sorely disappointed in this book. From all the positive reviews I thought this would give me a good chuckle, lighten this whole TTC journey, and teach me a thing or two. All the advertising says that this book will teach you exactly when to "baby dance" in order to conceive, and the author even writes that this is advice you won't find anywhere else.

Balderdash.

This book had nothing original to say. The author constantly referred to other books, and it made me feel like: "why am I even reading this book if all she does is refer me to other books?!". Not only that but she was trying constantly to be funny, and it just sounded crass and not humorous to me. I really was hoping this would be a fun book to read, but instead I am sending it back for a refund.

I would highly recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility instead (which Dr. Twenge even recommends! Ha!). TCOYF will teach you everything you need to know in a sensitive manner. I guess I will look for my comedic relief elsewhere.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dr. Twenge is a fantastic writer. I've ready many fertility books during this process and this and Taking Charge of Your Fertility are by far the best. This book gives unique advice about when to try and simplifies all the advice given about stress, supplements, eating healthy, exercise, etc. I especially appreciated the author's indepth research and explanation of the statistics you hear regarding fertility as they can be daunting. This book gave me new ideas, reassurance, and a good laugh. Highly recommended!

Stop googling like crazy and reading endless message boards. It will just drive you crazy. Because the author takes information from multiple sources, this is the only book you will need to read (especially for those of us Type A personalities that are used to success and being in control and suddenly find ourselves freaking out when we can't control the outcome that is getting pregnant!). She covers a lot of topics, so she is more than likely going to answer all of your questions. Also, a quick read - finished in just a couple hours.

A funny book used to teach us impatient women how to get pregnant quickly. And it worked for me. I feel with the Lord and Mrs. Twenge guidance we (my husband and I) were able to get pregnant in 2 months. Easy read that gets right to the point.

I loved this book. Her writing is enjoyable to read and the information and advice were just what I was looking for. I really appreciated all of the research that went into it and the way she clearly synthesized actual medical studies. I was surprised at some of what I learned. I started this about three months before my husband and I started trying to get pregnant and liked that timing, though you can really read it whenever. I highly recommend it!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book though quite sad that it is over. I loved the fact that the author included actual studies that help break down actual information rather than looking through page after page of endless info on Google. I started reading this the day my husband and I decided that it was time to start trying to conceive our first baby. I read countless reviews of several different titles of TTC books and I am so thrilled to have picked this one to read as my first. I work as a mother and baby RN at a very large birthplace but I have learned so much from this book alone. With that said, I would absolutely recommend this book to all whom is trying or even thinking of conceiving their first baby. I have found myself flipping back through the pages when wanting to remind myself of something or even after I took my first OpK I scrolled back to the section of the book for reassurance. Without hesitation this is definitely a 5 star book and a must read!

This book was very informative. Your doctor can give you a pre-conception consultation but they do not have all the time to describe the things reviewed in this book. Great for those prepping to start trying to have a baby

Hands down the most informative, humorous, and POSITIVE pregnancy book I have read! A must have for any woman trying to conceive! FINALLY a myth debunked, updated, and factual piece making it almost impossible to put down!! Seriously I read this book in less than 48-72 hours, and have gone back to it for reference several times while TTC, and chart!! Amazingly written from a woman's perspective!! I wish she would write another! Thanks Dr. Twenge for making me LOL during a time where I would rather scream, or cry!!

I recommend this book to anyone who has been trying longer than the 'average' couple (6 months). It made me that I wasn't alone in the waiting process and also had some great recommendations which later helped achieve a positive pregnancy test!

The comforting tone alone in this book makes me want to recommend it to any woman having a hard time conceiving. I found it to be very informative and will keep it handy to reference whenever I need a quick reminder on what eat and what not to stress over.

I thought this book was very well written, I picked up heaps of wonderful advice, all delivered with humour and based on an accurate evaluation of what really goes on to conceive. Would definitely recommend it.

I have been dealing with infertility for 3 years now and really wish I had this book 3 years ago. Now that I have been to doctors and the stress of IVF, reading this book is a breath of fresh air. If you are in the beginning of your infertility journey, you will find this very informative. If you have been there and done that like myself, you will enjoy her wit and humor.

A very funny, down-to-earth read. Though the science is the same, it was a fresh approach compared to most literature I've read surrounding fertility. I'd recommend this to anyone trying to have a baby!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about getting pregnant. As billed, it really did convey all of the information I've been wanting to know in one place and in a calm, accessible, and entertaining (but not cheesy) style. I am so thankful to the author, Jean Twenge, for writing this book! Reading it put my mind at ease and gave me all of the information (based on the most recent scientific research) that I need to move forward. There is info on what you should eat (and not eat) when you're trying to conceive, recommendations on vitamins and supplements, and instructions on tracking your fertility. I was totally overwhelmed before reading this book and now I honestly feel more in control. Great read; well worth the purchase price.

Love this book! I have been dealing with infertility for years and it gives insight into what exactly all this charting, vitamins, etc. are needed for that my doctor never provided. Love it. Now let's see if these things work!

Good book, easy to read. Good practical advice. Focused on the United States with products etc referred to that may not be available elsewhere, but always gave the reason why that product was recommended, so easy enough to look for alternatives outside the USA.

This book seems sensible enough to the modern woman who wishes to conceive. However, it's tone seems to get in the way of itself, and it has proven hard to finish. I lost steam after reading half of this book and don't know when I will finish the rest of it. Still, it's got good thoughts on getting pregnant - such as suggesting that partners get fertility-testing done and breaking down a bit what that kind of testing involves - which I hadn't quite read so articulately elsewhere.

I went from being a D- student about fertility (just got married, have spent my whole adult life trying to NOT get pregnant) to being a B+ student, thanks to this book. Now I know about what my body's doing during my cycle, what the signs mean, and how to time things with my husband to make this baby thing happen. It wasn't too scientific or too folksy, just a good, honest guide to the basics of making babies.

I found this book very informative and fun to read. I wish had I knew all of that information before we started to try to get pregnant. Probably it would have saved us many months of trying)))
I highly recommend this book to all future moms.
