Disappointing, out of touch with reality, and uninspired! How on earth is selling someone else's stuff considered a "next level idea" while selling your own products is deemed a "starter idea" by the author. This book understates the effort and time required to carry out a successful side hustle and over-estimates the likelihood of success. The suggested ideas are weak and lack creativity, making me cringe at times.

These five-star reviews must be the doing of side hustlers.

The $100 Startup is a far better book. Save your money and time and just read an article in Entrepreneur or Fast Company.

I have been following Chris Guillebeau for a while, along with having read this book I have been listening to his daily podcast Side Hustle School. If you listen to the podcast, well, the book shares a lot of the same stories and you have already been given the information from the book over the course of the year so far. The benefit of reading the book, and having a copy of it, is that it works well as something to return to. Not only that but the ideas are presented in a methodical way to encourage you to go from having ideas to narrowing your focus and to the practicality of making your idea a reality.

Sometimes it is hard to encourage yourself to keep on track... and sometimes you can't imagine how to create deadlines for yourself, this book helps to encourage the dreamer to really create that hustle.

I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

Chris Guillbeau's latest book, Side Hustle: From Idea To Income In 27 Days couldn't come at a better time. I have been extremely interested in the idea of a side hustle for a while, but I didn't know where or how to start. The book breaks down a plan on what you should be doing week to week so by Day 27, you should have launched your side hustle. At first, I thought I should just find a side hustle that I can do, but Guillbeau suggests that you find a high-potential side hustle. A high potential side hustle is not just another part-time job. It should be one that you can grow and possibly build into a business and replace your full-time job. He gives you some ideas on what kind of side hustles you can start. There are 3 broad categories of side hustles: one where you sell a product, one where you can offer a service, and one where you act as the middleman. I haven't read any of Guillbeau's other books so the information he gives in Side Hustle are all new to me. As a newbie, this book was very easy to read and understand, and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in building their side hustle.

SIDE HUSTLE is a book I bought automatically, like I do all of Chris Guillebeau's books. He's an amazing author and a really fun person; I've met him a few times because he always goes to Santa Cruz for events!

This book is a 27 day plan to get a side hustle from idea to out there in the world, hopefully making you money. A side hustle is something you do on the side that brings in extra income. For some people it becomes so successful that they can quit their regular jobs, but for others it's just extra income. Chris has a really great writing style and gives you actionable, easy steps with lots to think about, while also layering in examples and templates to help you along the way.

I guess writing is currently my side hustle, but it's so unpredictable; you can do A LOT of work and there's no guarantee that you're going to sell a book! I've been playing around with making greeting cards and encouragement notes and kits, and I'm going to start getting serious with it after reading this book. It was just the kick in the pants that I needed!

Quitting your day job can be terrifying. There are those who always talk about it but are too scared to make the move. There's a safer solution if you feel like what you're doing is not enough anymore - you don't have to quit your job to start a side hustle. I've been listening to Chris' Side Hustle School podcast where he analyzes success stories of those who started a side hustle. In the Side Hustle book he shows us how to start our own side business in 27 days.

The book is divided into 27 actionable sub-chapters where Chris draws our attention to what's important on our entrepreneurial path. "Grow what works, let go of what doesn't" is one of my favorite tips in the book but there are more. Whether you're an entrepreneur, a student or someone with a 9-5 job, pick up this book to get inspired. It includes 27 tips to start your own side hustle and is filled with success stories of those who have successfully started their side businesses and made some serious cash with it. It's great resource for every entrepreneur.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading/listening this book. This book is a step-by-step process that helps anyone take some form of an idea and turn it into real action. The author did a great job breaking down the problem into tiny pieces that can be solved one at a time (his plan is broken down into days).
What I enjoyed the most is how the author provides a mental framework that helps people gain a new mindset that pushes them into action. He discusses legitimate issues such as profitability, paralysis analysis, resourcing, etc... He also uses lots of real world examples of people who turned a small idea into a nice side kick business. My favorite was the guy who wrote blog poste about sea cruises and ended up getting up a lot of traffic which helped him generate income via ads.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone who has an idea but is unclear on how to start. I will certainly apply this to ideas at work myself.

A great resource and reading experience for people who are already confident, skilled, and energetic--probably best for natural entrepreneurs who just need to systematically choose and operationalize one of their many profit-making ideas. Chris has created a lovely authorial presence, and that alone is a kind of gift when you're trying to sort things out; but if the first week of the program doesn't result in you suddenly coming up with a profitable (and fun!) idea, you're kind of SOL.

I read on and continued with the podcasts. I'm hoping they stimulate the part of my brain (if it exists) that comes up with brilliant side hustles. Then I can start again from Day One.

f you are interested in starting a income-generating side project, this is a good book to read. For those who are new to Chris Guillebeau and "side hustles," the info will be fresh and new. This isn't your typical business productivity book or even your typical business entrepreneurship book. The advice isn't to get an MBA or to start out thinking venture capital, 6 figures, large staffs. Instead, Chris encourages potential side hustlers to start now, before you're 100% ready. He often says inspiration is good; inspiration + action is so much better.

I will admit that I've listened to his podcast of the same name since Day One. I've had a side hustle for a couple of years and would like to expand it. In the podcast and in the book, Chris gives you examples to learn from - real people who started small. Some make it big; some just generate a regular side income they can put towards extras. Everyone benefits from the effort, though.

If you also listen to the podcast, the first quarter of the book might be a little repetitive from what you've heard. The examples are all ones you hear him describe on air. But the steps are much more laid out in the book than in podcast. Chris is very concrete and suggests tools and ideas along the way. The book is not designed to make you a millionaire tomorrow; it is designed to get you thinking and, most of all, starting with your idea. Chris considers a lot of the things you'll have to consider and he gives lots of ideas for systematizing your efforts.

I was provided an advanced reader copy with the request that I would review the book. The review is my own and reflects my honest opinion.

I am enjoying Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days. I was privileged to receive an advanced copy (galley proof). While I am only on day 8, I can say it has provided me with some feasible ideas. In the book, Chris has helped me to understand how to choose a side hustle, why some are better than others (and how to find that out), how to evaluate at least three ideas and select the one that may have the best opportunity, and more.

Why 4/5 stars? I would have liked the book to get to the point sooner. I know stories are great to help some people learn concepts faster and relate to the content. I would prefer to get to the point faster. I do wish some of the examples had a bit more explanation. The forecasting income section would have benefited from additional depth. It seemed more like guesswork and what you hoped would happen. Other than that, I believe it is a good book and provides good insight into starting a side hustle. I feel as if it is helping me to move forward. I look forward to reading the rest of it.

Chris Guillebeau has done it again with another must-read book. If you are looking to create an additional income flow that is realistic and practical then this is the book to read. There is so much hype and fluff out there in the money making world this book is a welcome relief. It is an honest look at what it takes to create a second income and doesn't inflate expectations. It is focused towards one who currently has a job but is looking to start a second income that they are in control of. If you are already in your own business or looking to go full-time in entrepreneurship this may not be for you. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to start a side hustle and take more control of their income.

I personally had a hard time staying engaged with this book. I liked the short-story style with concise takeaways on how others worked their side hustle, but the narration was dull and almost too monotonous. I’d recommend passing on the Audible version.

Great book!! I had never seriously thought of starting a side hustle until recently when I began listening to the Side Hustle School Podcasts. While reading the book, I recognized my biggerst hurdle was fear of what business to establish as my side hustle. This book has helped me eliminate "analysis paralysis thinking." I started taking small steps towards a side hustle by setting up a personal the store seller page and selling a few items. Secondly, I established a community facebook page learning about facebook ads. Now, I have applied working as an independent contractor for an educational company. I am still working towards a more "profitable side hustle", continuing to follow the steps in the book. I am grateful to Chris because I now finally took the leap of faith, entering into the side hustle world and practicing Chris Guillebeau's mantra: "Inspiration is good but inspiration combined with action is so much better" !!

Great support system for readers, Chris had created a website and a podcast (SideHustleSchool) with ton of resources to take your ideas to Income in 27 days. In addition, he is currently on tour giving workshops in the same regard. The book, the free podcast, and free resources have created a community of people make extra money on the side. It is also important to note that the book would initiate a ton of ideas in your mind for the reader to apply in their current endeavors.

This book is very well thought out and contains practical advice for earning side cash. I liked the part about generating ideas, though I was unable to yet come up with something that spoke to my own skills or passions. Most chapters are short so it's fairly easy to implement the guidance and advice, however, I think that it may take some people longer than 27 days to implement their own side hustle. The examples and stories within each chapter were inspiring and part of the reason that I continued to read the book even after it became apparent that I personally wasn't into starting my own side hustle just yet.

There will be podcasts and other educational materials that will soon become available to accompany the book. Those extras may be an important part to successfully implement the program.

In this day and age of corporate insecurity, everybody should have a side hustle. It doesn't need to be something big. It doesn't need to replace your day job (although it might). It just adds a little security and hopefully a lot of fun to your life. And... Chris Guillebeau is the person to show you how.

The book will take you by the hand and day by day, over 27 days, help you figure out a good idea for a side hustle and how to start getting some income from it. He makes it easy. And fun.

The book is packed with ideas and examples of other people who've done this. It's an easy and fun read. I tried to limit myself to reading just a chapter a day but quickly had to start reading ahead.

Stop complaining about your life. Buy the book and follow it. (And then start listening to his podcast too!)

[Full disclosure: I'm a Guillebeau fan-boy (although not enough to know how to spell his last name without checking) and received an advance copy of the book so I could read it before it launched. If I hadn't gotten it for free, I'd be buying it right now.]

Chris Guillebeau crystallizes the essence of a good side hustle being quite simply the presence of a great product meeting an ideal customer, and he presents scores of illuminating true-life examples. His book is different from other books I've read about entrepreneurship or alternative business school trainings in that this message and most all of the techniques are intended for people who might be on the fence about launching a business or not really interested in leaving their current place of employment.

I've been following his writing for years, I first got to know about the author via his blog The Art of Non-Conformity. He's got a very easy and approachable style and readers will appreciate the can-do way that Guillebeau gives both big picture perspective on what it really takes to start, grow and sustain a side hustle, and in some places in the book he gets downright granular with a hand-holding approach. He's like your super-encouraging coach whispering in your ear when you just can't decide if you should try out an Airbnb listing to see if hosting could work for you.

Like his advice to readers to not get pushy about putting out a product, he also reminds the reader there is no sense being shy about getting the word out about your product or service offering. Side Hustle strikes a great balance between DIY product development, "back of napkin" business planning that actually works, and practical advice on using modern communications and marketing techniques.

Must read for anyone who wants to achieve financial freedom doing something they enjoy. You can never have too many income options, and this book walks you step by step through the process of starting your own small business without giving up your main job. I love the real life stories from people who have built their own side hustle, and I love the variety in these examples. Anyone can start a side hustle, you just have to be observant. I love Chris's funny, approachable writing style, and if you listen to the Side Hustle School podcast you will recognize his voice in his writing.

This book has lovely gems of knowledge like 'make sure your side hustle is profitable otherwise its a just a hobby' and 'set up a way your customers can pay you.' It even provides the complicated formulas you will need (make sure you provide it to your accountant): profits occur when you spend less than you take in - mind blown.

Overall it has the substance of a click-bait article.

This step-by-step guide by Chris Guillebeau is essential reading for anyone who seeks side hustle success. Side Hustle will help you to find your perfect idea then propel you into action, with helpful day-by-day steps that bring a powerful sense of focus. Guillebeau himself is a genius at launching powerfully successful businesses. No wonder he’s written such a smart, inspiring, and deeply actionable guide. I highly recommend it!

I first came across Chris Guillebeau after picking up a copy of "The $100 Startup" (a great read if you haven't got a copy) a few years ago. Since then I’ve become a regular consumer of his books, blog and podcasts. Side Hustle, his latest book, focuses on financial independence. Simply put you don’t have to quit your job, get funded, and work 24 hours a day to start a profit-generating side business. Rather, Chris guides you through how to come up with an idea, validate it, and launch it within a month while maintaining a day job and life! Whether you want to earn a little extra income for your next holiday or strive to eventually do your business full-time there’s plenty here to help. As well as documenting his own extensive experience of “side hustles” he shares stories from those that have also taken their own paths and are now generating income from their own side projects. If you’ve listened to his podcast of the same name then this is the perfect accompaniment and will get you on the road to launch!

This is a wonderful, practical book for anyone wanting to start a side hustle while still employed in your "day job". I would encourage everyone to buy it, and also to listen to Side Hustle School, the podcast where Chris tells a true life story about someone pursuing a side hustle. I just attended a book event for this book last night, and the energy in the room was palpable, with so many people who have been inspired by Chris and his podcast and book, all wanting to make positive changes in their lives. Let's all go for it! What do you have to lose?

Buy this book if you are interested in turning an idea into income! If you even have a sliver of a possibility that what you're thinking could be a possibility, start here before taking the plunge. Don't share your idea with friends or family, to see what they think. Just get this book. It will not only give you inspiration, it will give you confidence to move your idea forward. It will give you other ideas or ideas on how to spin/pivot your original idea into something more profitable. It will give you the steps to actually make something happen! And it will give you resources, and stories to support your endeavors. Stay encouraged from reading this book. Turn your idea into action. It's worth this tiny little investment.

Chris Guillebeau has been a mentor for so many years. The way he thinks and his dedication to helping folks live life on their own terms has changed my life in several ways.

This book is another example of his generosity. It's brimmed with practical advice, concise steps and full of examples of people who have created their own hustles and their process. People who, thanks to an extra income, gain extra money and thus more freedom. My copy is scribbled with marginalia and heavily underlined in pencil. I had to read the book with a notebook by my side to jot down ideas to carry down after (something I always find myself doing when reading Chris' work!) Now that I've finished it, I'm getting down to WORK!

Thank you Chris for all of the tools, inspiration and step-by-step guide to achieving more freedom.

I love how Chris Guillebeau breaks down the idea of creating an extra income stream into actionable steps delivered over 27 days in Side Hustle. Equally important is Guillebeau's understanding of the mindset necessary to take action on these steps, and he offers many creative, real-life examples of relatable people to bolster the reader's confidence. He shows how a side hustle can be more than money - it can be a way to fulfill dreams, to contribute to others and even to understand yourself better. When you pair this book with Guillebeau's podcast (also called Side Hustle) you've got an immersive education in how to create side income and explore your creative business ideas.

Chris has mastered the art of curating and telling great stories. Whether through his blog, WDS, his books, or now his podcast, Chris consistently finds and shares fascinating and inspiring stories of people living life on their own terms. Side Hustle is for those who want to create greater freedom in their lives, without giving up the security of their day jobs. As Chris suggests, however, creating a side hustle may bring it's own security. In his typical 'take it or leave it' fashion Chris offers a blueprint, and some guidance, for those wishing to pursue another source of income and greater control of their lives.

In the Side Hustle School podcast, which accompanies this book, the author Chris Guillebeau tells the lister that "Inspiration is good, but inspiration combined with action is so much better". The podcast, and now this book, are remarkable for not only generating that inspiration but also providing the tools and strategies we need to accomplish what we set out to do (and probably more). The compressed, month-long, nature of this book's arc will get you moving and earning fast. Highly recommended.

Note: I received this book for free in from the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.
