America's Test Kitchen publishes probably the best complete cookbook ever created. American's Test Kitchen thoroughly tests, retests, updates, and improves every recipe before it is published in their cookbook. As a matter of fact, every recipe I have ever tried in this cookbook over the past three years has turned out perfect. Love this book!

Most cookbooks I own have a handful of good recipes that I like and use on a regular basis. This cookbook has dozens of recipes with a good variety of foods to choose from. It is well written and easy to understand. So far I've used 6-8 recipes from this book with good success. Definitely a keeper.
For the record I've never watched the show, and this book was recommended to me by a friend.

This is our new favorite cookbook and we cook from it several times a week. The organization (by types of food and cooking styles, like skillet meals, pork, breakfast, etc) is very helpful and the index is exhaustive, unlike other recipe books we have. Each recipe is preceded by a short paragraph about why the recipe works and what modifications they made to a more traditional version. Like all Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen recipes, you have to evaluate whether the extra steps they usually include to improve a recipe are worth your time. And some of the product recommendations in the back are silly (robot vacuum?). But overall, and excellent book.

Christopher Kimball and staff are probably the most anal retentive chefs out there. But the results of their diligent kitchen work are oh so apparent in this book. My husband has already made many recipes in this book and while most of them are not the easiest, they certainly have wowed many of our guests. I definitely recommend this for any foodie who's looking for a comprehensive cookbook filled with the best of the best recipes.

Cooks County is my favorite show and I purchase their books to inhance my cooking skills. I have to say that I have never had any recipe I've tried come out other than outstanding using their methods which are not only outlined in the book but explain the 'why' as well as 'how' to make each dish. A truly great investment!!

If you like the shows, you'll appreciate the book. It's well indexed, and the recipes all have extensive instructions on why each step is or is not key to the final result, which helps if you're tempted to skip or modify steps to make them less tedious. Good for learning techniques that you can apply to other cooking outside of the individual recipes as well.

This is an excellent cookbook--I have a number of cookbooks and this one is reliable, thorough and full of great techniques. They give great descriptions of what the writers were looking for in creating the recipe, so what they were looking for isn't what you want, you know what techniques get the results you don't want. The one criticism that I have is that the recipes are geared toward the widest audience, so if you want daring recipes, you won't get them here. However, if you want excellent classics (exceptionally flavored chocolate chip cookies, excellent roasts, stews, cakes, etc.), this is the book for you.

There are many good recipes and ideas in this cookbook. I'm disappointed in the heavy emphasis on chicken and conventional American fare, but much that is useful is included. The chicken items take up a full page in the index, but there are only four lamb dishes. Not nearly as interesting as the 2008 Good Housekeeping cookbook, which is more international and varied. The Asian items are in a small section labelled "Let's do takeout", which is a good description of the familiar (hackneyed?) types of dishes included. There is a Tex-Mex section as well as some Italian and French dishes. Although I am not a vegetarian, I find the vegetarian portions of little interest, especially a very weak salad section. I would have been less disappointed if I had thought more about the program contents, which is more meat-centered than I like. The dessert sections are ample. Don't worry about having to find unusual ingredients.

I received the cookbook as a Father's Day present this June. My cousin had shown me The New Best Recipe: All-New Edition, which peaked my interest in America's Test Kitchen. We made it a goal to introduce new recipes from the book into our weekly routine, just as long as I was the one cooking (which makes my wife happy). So far we've done the Beer Can Chicken, Pan Seared Chicken, and Best Burgers. While it's been a challenge at times, we've both really enjoyed these and are looking forward to Baked Salmon with tomatoes this week. There are also great inset articles and appendices that introduce preparation techniques, how to choose cookware, etc. Overall, I would highly suggest this to anyone looking to get new recipes!

I first got this book from the library, and decided I needed to own it - it has SO many recipes, and almost every single one I've made has been delicious. I find the directions very easy to understand and I like the explanations before each recipe about what the test kitchen tried before settling on a certain method. I liken it to the Joy of Cooking, but way more beginner-friendly. We made the mistake of trying recipes in the JoC before we knew what we were doing and they were disastrous :) Not as comprehensive, of course, but has a huge range of the basics.

So you think you already know how to make guacamole and French toast? These and many many other common foods are tweaked and improved. This guide has never failed our family. Exceptionally well done. I do wish the typeface were larger.

Love the show and the cookbook is great. Everything has been tried and true. I would recommend this book to anyone who is learning to cook, or is a seasoned cook. It's a "go to" book for me. Glad I bought it.

There are two shows. America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country. Same people, similar set up but not the same show. I didn't care to look up all the recipes in question but the few recipes that people were complaining about being missing that I did check out were in fact from Cook's Country. I love this book, I love the show and I would recommend it to anyone. I just wanted to clarify that some of the complaints are invalid.

Best cookbook ever. Remember when we used to use the Better Homes and gardens cookbook. Anyone want mine? This cookbook has everything you'll ever need. Buy it, it's totally awesome! I love ATK but I cherish this book.

Very heavy book. Must be strong to lift and read. The book has tons of recipes, but unfortunately doesn't cover everything like a normal cook book tries to. Don't get me wrong it is a valuable book, but if you like oysters, or trout, you will be disappointed. I can not say that for certainly because the index is lacking. And the recipes are not exactly like the TV shows. They are abreviated, and miss some steps. I recently started taking interest in cooking and the TV show is awesome, so the book was a must. Not as good as show. I almost bought is directly from Americas test kitchen, but they wanted me to agree to more cookbooks that I would receive and then send back if I didn't want. No thanks...bought it here same discounted price with no BS succubus agreements.
