This cookbook was very useful in helping me understand how I needed to change my eating habits in order to more efficiently manage my IBS symptoms. My life is a lot more manageable and less awkward after reading this book!

I ACTUALLY PURCHASED THESE BOOKS FOR MY SISTER, DAUGHTER AND NEPHEW WHO SUFFER FROM THIS DISEASE AFTER READING A FRIENDS COPY. MY INPUT FROM THEM IS THE WONDERFUL EXPLANATIONS FOUND IN THE OPENING PAGES ABOUT IBS......MORE AND BETTER INFO THAN THEY HAVE EVER HAD BEFORE AND THEY LOVE THE RECIPES. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED......I HAVE MADE 3 IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN MY LIFE HAPPY AND HEALTHIER......WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WITH THE PROBLEM OR NOT AS I AM GOING TO ORDER ONE NOW FOR MYSELF EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT HAVE IBS.......

If you are gluten intolerant or have allergies to grains, this book is not for you. The recipes are packed with ingredients that one with such allergies cannot eat. I'm pretty good at adapting recipes to meet a grain free\gluten free lifestyle, but there are too many items that need replacing to make this book practical. Soy, soy milk, soy cheese and soy sauce are also listed in a lot of recipes and that's just not good for the body. I've studied farm to table nutrition for years; the way our bodies are meant to be fed, and was hoping this book would actually be the answer for those suffering with IBS but I just don't see how.

This is an excellent book for those suffering with IBS. It is very informative and is a quick read. It also has many helpful, easy recipes which are easily substituted if you have food allergies or limitations. I would definitely recommend it if you have IBS, as I have successfully alleviated some symptoms of IBS by utilizing the diets and guidelines the book provides.

The dietary restrictions listed in this book are much more severe than many of the other books and articles. I've already tried this method and found little relief. I seem to find more relief following the Low FODMAP method, which this book is in no way supporting. It nearly flies in the face of it, in fact. It may certainly help others with similar conditions that are triggered by different food types than mine is, however. Just because it doesn't work for me, doesn't mean it couldn't be extremely helpful to someone else.

Heather's book and her fantastic website have been a miracle for me. Suffering from severe diarrhea, I stumbled on her and things are now "normal". She has a wealth of knowledge and her website contains archives going back many many years. Her cooking videos and recipes are wonderful and easy. Even though the book was written a while ago, if you pair it with her website and videos, she provides a very complete and full-ranging program. And best of all, I don't feel deprived, even though I have made major changes in my diet , on her recommendation. Her product line is very good too. Highly recommend.

This book was very helpful and had great ideas, some of the recipes are a little hard to make when you're in an area that doesn't have some of the ingredients but overall it gives you great ideas and really healthy recipes.

My wife has just started to use the diet suggestions in Van Vorous' book. She hasn't followed the diet at 100% but even so she seems to have improvement in the level of her stomach aches. This is the first improvement she's had in years.

Thought I had this problem for years but doctors kept saying no. So I decided to look for information that would help me decide weather it in fact was IBS. This book has really helped me to realize why I was so miserable for so long. Its made such a big diffrence in my life.

I was very disappointed in this book. Maybe the fact it was written in 2000 is the problem. Another person bashing the poor egg yolk !
How can an item that has only 75 calories be full of fat ? The yolk of an egg is one of the most nutritious foods available for so few calories.
Also, there are a lot of recipes that use tomato's. This high acid food is poison to most people with digestive issues .Peppermint turned my urine
into pure acid. I could go on & on. I bought several books on IBS and I will be sure to review them . Many reviews on the store have helped with
health issues. I would like to return the favor to others who are looking for natural help with health problems.

Definitely a well rounded overview of the basic understanding of this disorder. However besides the foods triggers I still believe that stress and the root of those stressors are equally or even more important in the treatment of this disorder.

Well researched, but pointed out that every individual's problems are different. Many recipes called for meat, which I don't eat. Many had oils in them that I can't tolerate either. So, I liked the information about IBS, but didn't get recipes that I could personally use.

Although this came out in 2000, the information is still helpful. Some new products are available now that would be included in an updated version. I have made the Banana
Bread and Blueberry French toast and both were delicious.

This book was well-researched and was extremely helpful to me! I would advise anyone with IBS to buy it! The author, who has IBS and has, therefore, experienced the pain and trauma of this 'syndrome' has taken great care in dispensing her wealth of knowledge! GREAT BOOK - VERY HELPFUL!
