I have never written a book review before but had to on this one. My mom read this and raved about it and encouraged me to pick it up. I did and I am so thankful I did! I bought myself a copy and have encouraged all my friends to read it. After reading this book I was truly inspired to spend more time with the Lord...getting to know Him through His Word. He really is all I have whether I am in a state of plenty or want. And this book was so encouraging to hear the testimonies of how God answered prayer and was involved so intimately in her life. AND He is intimately involved in MY life. I LOVED this book...It will be a classic in my Christian life I will re-read :)

A riveting account of survival as a prisoner of the Japanese during WWII. A wonderful testimony of God's sustaining grace. Darlene has a rare gift for story telling. Some of her accounts will live in my mind forever. The older children at my church ate it like candy! Elinor Gorton

Bought the book on the recommendation of a friend. Powerful book about the Japanese internment camps during WWII. A missionary's story of her time in one. Once you start reading, you will have a hard time putting it down.

I live in North Carolina and this book was shipped from Georgia. It took about two weeks to get this book, which I thought was long since I can order stuff from California and get it here in a week and a half.

After leaving 3 stars on the seller's page initially because of this delay, they contacted me and asked if I could share my unsatisfied feedback with them. I told them (nicely, I promise) that I didn't think it should take that long to arrive and such. Instead of just saying "that's not our fault," they REFUNDED ME for this book and shipping! They did not have to do that at all but it was so kind of them.

While my order did take longer than expected, this seller is kind and actually cares about the people who do business with them. And that's pretty rare.

This is one of the most remarkable stories I have ever read. If you don't believe in God, you will after you read this. This woman went through trials and dangers that few men ever had, and she prevailed through belief in her faith and putting it into practice. No matter what your particular faith is, it will be stronger after reading this.

Darlene and her husband Russell put their lives on the line just going to New Guinea to spread the gospel. Then if the climate and many diseases were not enough, the Japanese took over. Darlene's story of survival in a Japanese prison camp is a must read.

This incredible true story of a young missionary wife captured, imprisoned and brutalized during World War II in the South Pacific is a horrifying story yet one that shows how her faith grew even stronger and maintained her during these four years. I heard her interviewed after her return and will never forget her story. I strongly recommend this book!
