Review:After watching the special features on Kick-Ass, I knew I wanted to read the comic, that went from comic to screen play so fast, as in before the comic was complete (3/8 of the way). As dark as the movie is... the comic is darker.
I am a fan of both the movie and the book, They were different. And it was interesting to see what they changed from the comic. (red mist is just one example) Read more
Review:"Yuge" arrived yesterday, and my first thought was that the Preface alone was worth the price of admission, especially with the inclusion of the newspaper clip from the time.
It's amazing how consistent the man has been with his self promotion, self-serving exaggerations and attacks on those who would mock him.
The Garry Trudeau interview with Diane Rehm on NPR was icing on the cake and should be consumed with "Yuge" in hand. So to speak. Trudeau is a master with words. He actua... Read more
Review:Harley is now apparently the DC female Deadpool... and I'm perfectly okay with that.
The art is solid. I'm a bit disappointed that Amanda Conner only did the covers, but the regular artist are good and of course the writing hilarious. Read more
Review:I liked this graphic novel. Harley Quinn has been changed a bit in the new 52, she's on her own, new costume, and new hairstyle. Still pretty lovable though. I'd say Suicide Squad's main character is Deadshot and Harley Quinn really is the "second" main character. Mostly because while we do follow Harley around (mostly towards the end of the novel) Mainly we follow Deadshot. Other team members come and go but there is always the Diablos whose powers consist of fire related combustion, and Shark ... Read more
Review:This is a great series and worth reading. Once you start this series, you'll want to finish it, so the box set is definitely worth it. It would make a great gift for someone who enjoys graphic novels. Read more
Review:Clearly this suffers from its date of publication, however, the Bond personality is different from most of the movies with Daniel Craig perhaps closest. The plot resembles quite a bit of the Craig movie actually and the dialogue is pretty good in many parts. The card game is an excellent staged psychological drama. Changes in technology and many cultural standards (avoid Live and Let Die if you can't handle blatant racism and misogyny) aside this novel really holds up rather well. A pretty good ... Read more
Review:I love Willow Wilson's work. After borrowing both CAIRO and ALIF THE UNSEEN from the library, I purchased copies of my own. CAIRO sat for weeks on my dining room table specifically so I could pick it up and start all over again.
The story here is fresh, funny, satisfying and unexpected, ironically exactly what we've come to expect from Ms. Wilson. I love Kamala's family, her friends; oh, to be tall, cool and regal like Nakia. The promising premise delivers on every level through Kamala's ... Read more
Review:A disillusioned pastor questions his faith when Kansas is destroyed in a nuclear explosion cauased by the "superhero" Magog. He is summoned by the Spectre (DC's Angel of God's Wrath) to witness the unfolding of the events involving Superman's return after Magog killed the Joker, which led Superman into an self imposed exile.
THe story involves the return of the Justice League and a scheming Lex Luthur. It's a very good book and shows pastors in a good light. The main character, Pastor Nor... Read more
Review:Millar his berserk in this story of Wolverine years in the future. The super villains have virtually wiped the earth of super heroes, yet one remains, Logan, who won't raise a fist. What happened? Well that would be telling... just pick this volume up and prepare yourself for Millar inspired insanity, with one of the sickest endings ever! Read more
Review:I weakened and bought this book a second time, not quite remembering why I disliked it. After all, Mark Millar is one of my favorite modern comics scribes and this story has been announced as the basis for the next "Captain America" movie. Then, after reading the let down of a "climax," I remembered what bothered me. I also bought the companion comic, "Choosing Sides", and another, even more compelling reason to be unhappy with this "epic" story hit me square in the heart. Does anybody remember... Read more
