Review:Tedious, boring and definitely stagnant. Who really cares about the recollections of a butler who apparently isn't particularly bright. The only good thing I can say is that it is fast reading and that is because there is no substance. Read more
Review:I love Carolyn Brown's style of writing. I've only read two of her books and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I found myself smiling alot and caught up with the characters. I am looking forward to a third book by her. Read more
Review:The Darkest Child is a page turner that you will not want to put down. This remarkable story about what a child can endure at the mercy of an insane parent and seemingly world around her is something not to be missed. Read more
Review:Today is a good time to go back to Ishiguro’s classic 1986 investigation of Japanese war guilt, as Japan’s current political leaders push their attempt to deny it. A few years after Japan’s defeat in World War II, Ishiguro’s unreliable narrator, a retired artist named Ono, ruminates over his early life and his role in promoting his country’s aggressive militarism. Ono’s rambling recollections take place as he maneuvers to complete arrangements for his daughter’s marriage. He hopes to prevent ... Read more

Review:As one Amazon reviewer said, this book is like the nightmare you can't rouse yourself from. Ryder, the principal character, arrives in a town he recognizes--or maybe doesn't--for an event he can't quite recall having committed to. He meets the butler in the hotel, who is also his father-in-law--or at least the father of the woman who may or may not be his wife. This pattern is repeated over and over, as Ryder constantly finds himself praised for doing nothing, or criticized for breaking commitme... Read more

Review:When I heard Pam Godwin was writing a student/teacher book, I jumped for joy. I love forbidden love stories and I love this author so I was fairly certain this would be a win for me. Every Pam Godwin book I read, I’m shocked by the beauty in her words and the stunning stories she writes. I’ve come to the conclusion that by now I should just be used to it. This is the fifth book I’ve read by this author and all of them have been fantastic 5-star reads. Friends- if you haven’t read this author you... Read more
Review:I wanted to like this book. I read the entire thing hoping that it would redeem itself before it was over. Much of it I had to force myself through just to read it. I think I needed a list of characters to help me remember who was who. This came as a highly recommended book and obviously a lot of people really like it because it's rated well. Maybe I'm missing something? It just seemed boring and confusing. :/ Read more
Review:Too many adjectives to describe mundane things, which detracts from story. Too many conflicting descriptions that made me want to edit the story i.e., Tires "screeching" on black ice, (not possible on ice), an abyss, but filled with snow capped trees...I really wanted to like the books, but maybe it is just me. Read a sample for yourself. Read more
