Mathematics
Review:In the world of engineering it's essential to know basic mathematics and calculus. For those of us just starting out in technical math, I can recommend three outstanding references. You cannot do better than this matched set; "Calculus For Dummies" and "The Idiots Guide To Calculus". Both are wonderfully lucid and yet cover the essentials. They should be bought as a set since they approach many concepts in ways that differ yet in a cooperative fashion. If your just starting out with calculus or ... Read more
Review:I am currently a high school senior taking Calculus BC (which is essentially Calculus I) and this book supplements creative and fun applications of calculus that I sometimes am deprived from in class due to limited time. The best parts of this book, other than applications, is how Kline does not quickly rush into an equation, theorem, etc. He explains the notation, what the variables represent as a whole, rearrangement of the equations, and what they can be applied to. Then he proceeds to work t... Read more
Review:We were disappointed to receive the textbook which came with a soft green/gray cover, later we got to know that it is called "International Edition". Same contents but the paper quality is not as good as the standard textbook printed in America. Read more
Review:Got this book for my friends' baby shower. Met her while in college and we're all engineers, including her hubby! I think they'll both get a kick out of it and I'm sure baby will find it educational too. :) Read more
Review:The book arrived very quickly and is in perfect condition. It's a very helpful supplemental material if you are like me and have to buy the 5th edition ebook and homework online. I really like having this physical copy to refer to and so far I've found no differences between this book and the 5th edition. Read more
Review:This book attempts and delivers an excellant synthesis of the core of calculus. A little lite in some areas - for example very little attention is devoted to du/dv substitution techniques for use in integration by parts. (Just how do you select the right du? It's more than just a hunch.)
All good writing should, initially, attempt tell you -- 1.where you're going, ----- then---- 2.go there ----- and ---- 3. conclude by telling you where you've been. I've always thought that the math discip... Read more
Review:Oakley explains the best and worst study techniques as if she were explaining it to a 5 year old. It's a fast, simple read. Tons and tons of useful information and techniques to employ. Every high school student should read it. They should read it again in college. Every year. Read more
Review:The book is amazing, the people I bought from were not. When the used book arrived from Czars all the pages were coated in a dingy film. The book reeked of an odor I must assume was rat piss. Holding the book to read made me nauseous and ill. After teaching through chapter 1, I finally took it to a graphic arts place and had them photo copy all the pages so that I could throw it away. Review:Danica McKellar's math books are always helpful, but this one brought my grade up to an A from a C, I couldn't be happier with this book.
She pinpoints the problems, writes them out, and explains them in a way that makes you think, 'This is easy!' Read more
Review:Two problems with this product:
1. The CD stops and skips so often that is painful to listen. Poor quality electronic production. I tried several discs with no improvemtn in quality. Very Disapointing.
2. This type book is a poor candidate for audio presentation. The author's style comes across badly in an auditory performance. So bad,in fact that it distracts from the author's message. Rendering the book unintelligible. Read more
