Business & Money
Review:If you'r beginning your journey with work-life balance and minimalism, this is the right book to start. Leo knows how to put all the complicated thoughts everyone has into simple and easy to use ideas. There really is a POWER of less. Read more
Review:If you’re looking for the best take on the human side of this disaster, this is the one. Ms. Slade gives an intimate look at a number of the players involved; the mariners, the corporate employees and later, the investigative personnel. The bile will rise in your throat as you come to this conclusion: that, as usual in this country, it all comes down to money. Thirty-three lives were lost because the company exerted pressure on these merchant marines to get to their destination on time on a vess... Read more
Review:A well-written book and poignant for those of us who grew up there. It very accurately reflects life there in the 1940s and 50s. I left in 1960, long before all hell broke lose in that lovely little town, and the story leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. Still, if the business could have been somehow restructured with more automation - yes, fewer jobs - the company might have been viable. The unspoken (and unwritten) part of the story is that if a industrial worker can become reasonably profic... Read more
Review:This would make a great gag gift...too bad I was buying it to actually read! I made an assumption this well-known and popular book would be a paperback size--it was smaller than the palm of my hand. Super dissapointing, although we laugh about it now. Read more
Read more
Review:Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual
I won't repeat the content and layout of this book, as it looks as though many others have already. All I would add, is that the presentation is clear, strong and congruent with the writing.
Although many of the ideas or contemplations aren't entirely separate from the physical work, it is still helpful to have them in two sections. THOUGHTS and ACTIONS to me work... Read more
Review:I'll admit it upfront. I am a Freakonomics lover! And I expected big things from Super-Freakonomics. And I received!
This book is terrific. Outstanding! Incredible!
Buy this book! This is the best book I have on my Kindle (and I have a lot of books)! Read more
Review:Short & sweet (booklet rather than book, really), does what it says it'll do. And I know it works, because the system is how this review came about. (I could see that I was being worked from first contact, but it was charming enough that I didn't care!)
That being said, the system is quite limited in terms of *how* to do it--it uses very specific tools, without equal time for those of us who might use other tools. I wish it had had sections that addressed other common tools.
Review:If you're looking for a similar book that's better written, look up Coping with Difficult People by Robert Bramson. It's older, so it doesn't have the modern applications like this book has, but Bramson's book is more plainly written. Easier to understand and provides direction in how to handle the situations you're presented with. Read more
Review:My MBA financial accounting teacher suggested we read this prior to starting her class. It starts out very basic and I thought, "wow, if you don't know this stuff maybe an MBA is not for you." But as I continued to read it I was pleasantly surprised as to how much I learned. I must admit some of the writing is a bit hokey, but the lessons are easily learned. Read more
