This Charming Man
This Charming Man

Review:When I saw this book, I immediately wanted to read it. I'd been waiting a long time for Marian's next book!

But when I finally started reading it...ugh. Marian Keyes has dealt with some very serious subjects before -- drug addiction, psychological trauma, devastating illness, loss of a spouse -- so I was prepared to be dealing with some weighty subject matter. Marian can usually handle even the most serious stuff with wit and a tender touch. But this book...wow. It was really brutal. I me... Read more

I'm Fine...And Other Lies
I'm Fine...And Other Lies

Review:A good read for humbling ourselves, realizing we don’t know as much as we think we do, that we aren’t better than anyone else, and we definitely can never know what someone else has gone through in their lives. With all the left and right, liberal and conservative stuff going on, and blindly following one side with way too much fervor, we really have to stop and actually have a conversation with people who think differently than we do. Also it was hilarious, which is a plus. I love Whitney Cummi... Read more

Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers
Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers

Review:After all the marketing for this game I decided to preorder it. I was super excited when it finally arrived, then we played it. Who would have guessed that a bunch of people with no punning experience would have such a tough time coming up with puns on the fly. So we played for three hours. In that three hour span two hours and forty-five minutes were spent in silence as we tried to come up with puns to two cards that share no common ground. Waste of a game night. Read more

Shortlisted for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction 2016

Review:I read this novel with more than a little trepidation, as the main character is named after noted socialist economist Thorstein Veblen. He plays a prominent role for a man dead nearly a century. Fortunately, while the personal politics of the author are certainly not in question, she resists the urge to make this a political novel. It's safe for those of us who are dog-tired of novels that rely heavily on beating readers over the head with "insight" into the rights and wrongs of red and blue.Read more

I Like You Just Fine When You're Not Around

Review:This book had me hooked from the beginning! I immediately fell in love with Tig and all her flaws. No family, no life, is movie picture perfect. We all have our ups, downs, struggles, and self realizations. This book plays all of those out perfectly! Read more

This One Is Mine: A Novel
This One Is Mine: A Novel

Review:I was pulled into this story immediately and began to care so much about the two main characters that I was constantly thinking about them and worried for days about them. I would have ordinarily read this wonderful book in one or two sittings, but really couldn't get the free time, so I just kept trying to figure out what was going to happen, and I was never right! Maria has a way of looking at things and telling things that is completely original. What a treat. Read more

101 Things NOT Everyone Should Know How to Do - Forbidden Knowledge
101 Things NOT Everyone Should Know How to Do - Forbidden Knowledge

Review:This is a "garbage" book from a "garbage" Author. As an Author myself let me make it clear that writing a book, especially a 'how-to' book is quite difficult and time consuming. The Author in this situation only wanted you to see the cover, think you're going to get something that you can brag about having learned, or god knows what because this book is titled too seriously for me to believe the Author was expecting the reader to KNOW this book is a joke, which it is. This book is garbage and I ... Read more

The Bro Code
The Bro Code

Review:I love the show and in particular Neil Patrick Harris as Barney so when the opputunity came to buy a copy of the Bro Code i jumped at the chance. If taken literally it is infantile and male dominant but that is the way the character is in the show. After reading i felt it funny and well written almost like a constitution for men from the Barney perspective. If your looking for something that will make you smile while reading and possibly quoting later this is a safe bet to buy. Read more

a romance for the over 40 (#sexysilverfoxes) - After Care
a romance for the over 40 (#sexysilverfoxes) - After Care

Review:After Care is a beautiful story. You don’t have to be 40+ to enjoy and relate to Edie Williams and Tommy Carrigan. If you’ve endured a long term relationship break-up, survived an illness or just looking for an emotionally satisfying read, this is your book.

I think one of the many reasons why I fell in love with this story is because I connected with Edie.. she’s in her 40s with adult children, survived a marriage of 20+ years breakup and I can relate to her insecurities.
