Number four of the Macklin series has the re-emergence of a serial killer that haunted Larry’s dad many years ago, and now Larry is determined to catch the person once and for all. Another great narrative with the familiar cast of characters, this time adding in their peers from neighboring Leon County. Nice pace and plenty of intrigue as the murderer keeps eluding the team while the suspect list grows. This book was fantastic, right up until the ‘surprise’ ending. I don’t wish to give anything away, but the ending feels like it was written with the author’s deadline as the priority. Poof! Here’s the criminal, with absolutely no inkling nor suspicion throughout the entire book. You know, it’s so much more fun and interesting when there is some suspicion cast among various characters, that way we the reader can play along with anticipation whether we were right or not. This book featured none of that...just a last minute shocker that came out of left field. A surprise ending at its worst, because there was no buildup leading us there at all. If he had drawn out the first recognizable clue, then inserted a few more steps along the way toward homing in on the killer, that would have worked fine. But instead, it was all over without any real suspense leading up to it. And it was all wrapped up in a few short pages. Disappointing in my opinion. That’s too bad, since the entire story up to that point was five-stars all the way.

I recently became familiarized with an author named A. E. Howe. I more or less stumbled upon him and his Larry Macklin mystery series. I read the first three books, " November's Past", "December's Secrets", and "January's Betrayal" in approximately 2 weeks. I was thrilled to discover that there would, in fact, be a third book, "February's Regrets", released soon. After reading the latest Larry Macklin mystery, I am happy to say that I was not disappointed. Mr. Howe has a writing style that keeps you intrigued and turning the pages to see what new adventures await Larry. He is a down to earth, likeable character which makes the reader care what happens to him. If you enjoy a good mystery with a touch of humor and warmth, I recommend reading this series. It will not disappoint. Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

February Regrets is book number four in the Larry Macklin mystery series and it is even more enjoyable than the first three books. I am really getting to like this guy and all of the supporting characters in the series. And of course, there's a dog - a great big, lovable, spoiled rotten Great Dane named Mauser who belongs to Deputy Macklin's dad, Sheriff Ted Macklin. Mauser has a vote on new-hires at the Sheriff's Department, giving them a 'paws up' or a 'paws down' at their interviews.
The author A.E. Howe supplied me with a complimentary electronic advance copy of his book, but I also purchased the newly released e-book to ensure that our collection contained all four books. I am sitting on my ocean-side patio, reading the story for a second time. Great story! Can't wait to read the next in the series - March something. Cheers Lynda Lock

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this 4th book of the Larry Macklin series. The characters had been so well developed in the first three books that they seemed like visiting old friends.
In this book a serial killer from the past has come back He had eluded the searches done by Larry's father, Sheriff Macklin in the past, and now Larry and his partner Pete are leading the search for this vicious killer, even though Larry is now only a reserve deputy,
The book is well written and hard to put down. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with characters one can really like and identify with.
Thanks to the author, A.E. Howe for allowing me to read a digital review copy---This is a 5 star book tor sure.

Unbelievable ending. All these characters feel like friends. Still love how the pets play such realistic roles. It will be interesting to see how the story line moves forward now. I recommend this book.

Well written with an easy flow. Characters have depth and capability of showing the gambit of emotional responses to daily life scenarios that we all experience to some extent. The author creates story lines that are relatable and sincere. Overall a great series that keeps a person guessing and looking forward to the next story to come.

I like how the author describes how police use vaeious techniques to trip up a possible suspect and "create" circumstances that are not really there. He paints police as less than "saintly" and that is refreshing to read. His plots are generally pretty tight and I find the series entertaining.

15 years ago, someone was killiiig peope and leaving their bodies in swampy areas in Adams County. He or she was never found. Now the killer is back and Macklin and his partner, Pete, are leads on the investigation. Most of the book was about all they went through to try to find the killer. I didn't find that stuff boring, even though it's fairly common operationing procedure in who-done-it books; because I was ever so curious to learn who the killer was. I must say that, for me, the outcome didn't hold together very well. Nor did the reason for the serial killer becoming a serial killer. Was very disappointed in the ending. This book may deserve only 3 stars instead of 4. Mauser, the Great Dane, was his usual charming self, however, so let's just say the extra star is for him. Even though I found this book not quite up to par, I like the characters within enough to read the rest of the books and sign up for a new one if it is to be forthcoming.
