I use this book pretty consistently for both of my kids (one is 3, one is 9 months). It has some helpful tips. I especially like making the super baby porridge.

However, the style in which it is written is a bit scattered, with random facts and figures thrown in as if the author is a health professional, which she is not.

The book gets a little confusing when it talks about servings...it isn't concise. I wish it was written in ounces as I freeze in one ounce portions. The books talks about all these different things but doesn't talk about basic digestive issues such as constipation and which foods would help correct it. I was a little disappointed overall.

this book is very preachy and judgemental. wastes a lot of space being WAY too wordy and gives "tips" on all sorts of things that 99% of readers don't need a "tip" on -- as well as huge sections on arts and crafts and other stuff unrelated to 'super baby food'. eliminate all of that extraneous info/wordiness, and you could reduce this door stopper book to 1/4 of its size! another gripe is that the section on meat is so obviously anti-meat that she makes you feel like you need a haz-mat suit to prepare this evil ingredient! please! finally, a lot of her info is incorrect (especially the ages of introduction for various foods).

This is an excellent book. I knew very little about starting to feed my baby. This book provided great overview and walks you through month by month. The author stresses to use in conjunction with pediatrician recommendations which I appreiciate. I also love all the recipes. While I may not do everything in the book...I will use a lot of it. Great for first time parents.

This book has some good suggestions and recipes, but I chose not to try any of the suggestions to use nuts as a main part of the diet so early. Even though I don't have nut allergies in my family, my pediatrician warned against introducing nuts given the recent growing tendency in the US to severe nut allergies. However, I particularly liked the section on how to make yogurt.

I buy this for every expectant mother. It is full of excellent information and has great recipes, too. I used her advice for my three children, and have given at least five copies of this book since I received mine. You will not be disappointed.

I got this book on recommendation from practically everyone...but reading through it, I felt that a lot of the material was either very common sense or just not something I would ever apply. Baby can eat anything you do, if it's made soft enough. Check it out from the library before you buy it...if you find it to be a fantastic resource, buy it. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Super Baby Foods offers information on how and when and how much to feed your baby. There is a wealth of information on how to make healthy foods for your baby or toddler. The book has a schedule for when to introduce certain foods and ow much you should be offering. I use this book all the time and have food the instructions and advice right on. It takes little time to make these foods for your child and the benefits to your child and your budget are evident. I recommend this book to all the new parents I know.

There are even instructions on how to make non-toxic cleaning solutions and other household tips.

Every new parent should own this book. There is so much good information including when to start solids, what to start with, safety, and making your own food. I especially like the suggested meal time schedules for the different stages in baby's development. I'll rarely give a five star review, but this book earned it!

This book is full of helpful info. Most important thing to is check with your pediatrician (which the author points out several times). The scheduling and how to cook the different foods were really helpful for me (as I had never cooked a sweet potato before). Great gift for anyone who wants to make their own baby food!

I know there are some negative reviews on this book and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think you need to use good judgement and always confirm with your pediatrician if you are unsure about certain things. For example giving my baby nuts too early is definitely something I would avoid. That being said I found this book so fabulously informative and full of new ideas, recipes, awesome suggestions and time/money saving tips!!! I am recommending this book to all of my mommy and soon-to-be mommy friends and family!!! I don't think I can or want to live without it anymore! Some reviewers complained about the author's disorganization of the book however I found it VERY easy to read with a lot of points in the book where she refers you to other sections for extra info. I think it's difficult to write a book with this much info...don't think I could've organized it any better myself!! I even love that many of the ideas are for older children which helps me out a lot since I have a 4 month old and a 5 year old! One suggestion is to freeze not only homemade babyfood but also sandwiches/lunches for school aged children so you don't have to make lunch every day during the work week. I work full time so that's a great time saving tip!! So many more wonderful ideas, like this, in the book!! I'm also excited to try making my own homemade fruit leather!!
I can't say enough great things about this book other than go get yourself a copy. I have mine on hand with me throughout the day and when I have a few extra minutes I read a small section. Lastly I will say it doesn't have to be read in order...I flip all around and go back and forth. It's so full of info....from cover to cover! Hope you all find it as helpful and informative as I have. :)

Ruth jumps around alot at the beginning, which makes it hard to get a clear picture of what to feed and how. Lots of recipies and ideas in the back of the book though. Also has a nice table/worksheet that summarizes how many servings of each type of food/nutrient a baby needs per day (reminds me of Richard Simmons' Deal a Meal). Makes it easy to see when you've given all the baby needs for the day. Overall, good resource, but don't expect it to be a one-stop clear explanation of everything you need to know about feeding your baby.

This book has been an inspiration for the early days of feeding my children, through childhood. I refer to it for many things beyond baby food; ie when fruits and vegetables are in season or what foods go great for a smoothie.

I have not finished reading everything in this book but so far it has been extremely helpful. My favorite part so far is that it lists the various fruits/veggies and what age they should be introduced and pretty much all the info you need on them. As with any book there are some parts that come across as more of an opinion, so always consult with your child's doctor. My son's pediatrician recommended this book because I chose to make my own baby food due to my son having a dairy, egg and soy allergy. I would recommend it to any parent.

I find that its recommendations for food texture seem quite overboard for us. I am finding that my 6 mo old loves textured foods and has no problem gumming at chunky foods. Letting him chew on things like carrot sticks/pieces of apple (under supervision of course) are working for us. I like the ideas in it and look for recipes/food combos, but follow little else in it. It is also dated when it comes to food allergy recommendations.

This book gives great ideas for making your own baby food. It has lots of information, but arranged in a way that you can easily access the information you need. You can save lots of money using this book!

Very thorough book about making your own baby food. Gives basic information such as how to hard boil an egg. Tells how to make your own cereals, etc. Tells also about storing foods, (how long to freeze, etc). Also gives suggestions about what ages to introduce multiple types of foods.

My doctor recommended this book but I have to disagree with its quality. I was hoping for some recipes with illistrations and a less than complicated way of preparing healthy food for my daughter and maybe even find recipes that I might enjoy as well. Recipes with fresh fruits and veggies. A enlightened book that is easy to read and organize meals with small tips and facts about the meal. This book wants the reader to pack, freeze and horde. To shop for hard to find items that you'd have to go to a health food store to find.

This book really irritated me. As a first time mom, I needed a simple and succinct source of information on how to introduce my baby to solid foods. This massive book is poorly organized and full of lots of useless tips and instructions I consider dangerous, like giving your baby highly allergenic nut butters because the author has a militant vegetarian agenda. And who is she anyways? She's certainly not an accredited health professional.

I just wanted to know at what age it's appropriate to introduce certain foods and how to properly prepare them. I had to wade through too much to get the information I wanted. I learned more from the booklet included with my Baby Bullet and my pediatrician's advice.

Other reviewers have said this book isn't BFing friendly and I agree. The portions are way too much and may cause your baby to nurse less and your supply to go down.

I gave this book 2 stars because the section on how to prepare foods was useful and that was about it.

I was fortunate enough to stay home with my baby (and only work part-time) for the first 3 years of his life. Making his baby food from fresh veggies and fruits was a very satisfying and enjoyable experience for me. In his stroller, I would take him to the local farmer's market every week. We'd stop at the local toy store so he could play with the toys they had on display and then I'd go pick out fresh produce to take home with us. Initially, it does take time to cook and mash/blend, but when you use ice cube trays...you've made your baby 12 servings of that veggie or fruit. The process is very easy...but if you work full-time you might find the process too time-consuming.

I really really love this book. My sister gave it to me after using it successfully with her two children. I have just started using it for the past month. I love how it tells you how to make everything and goes into great detail on how to store everything safely. It also tells you how to grow your own food! That is so awesome because it is so much cheaper to grow your own. Did you know you can even make your own rice cereal? It tells you how to do that too!

This is a great book for the diligent parent that wants to get started with the idea of making baby food at home for their son/daughter. There was lots of information in this book that lead me to have discussions with my Pediatrician that I wouldn't have even known to have! We don't follow her method to a science, but she gave us the information we needed to get started on our own and adapt along the way based on how our littleman responded. I'll be honest, at a certain point there was information that we skimmed and/or glanced over because it didn't necessarily pertain to us and/or it was information that we felt was common sense. I am sure, however, she has to put in a lot of stuff that might seem like common sense to some due to publishing guidelines since it is a book about feeding babies and toddlers.

This book is filled with information but not well organized and too many cross-references/redundancies make it thicker than it needs to be. Some information just raised more questions and didn't offer specifics... I was left feeling frustrated and as if I needed to do further research via other sources before being confident enough to have a 'game plan' on implementing solids for my baby. Best for recipes if you are set on making your own food.

This book totally guided me through solid foods with my baby. I was so nervous about adding solid foods to my breast fed baby, but this book gave me the necessary confidence, information, and how-tos for the healthiest baby possible. My baby boy loves veggies now. And he is very happy and very healthy!

Ruth's book is wonderful, especially if you are a vegetarian parent. Lots of ideas, guidelines, recipes, etc. Some are too earthy-crunchy for this granola-making mom, but I'd highly recommend it. I refer to it so often, I leave it on my kitchen counter. Worth it.

My daughter is almost 3, and I am finally reading this book. I guess we did alot of table food with her ;)

But what I'm learning now is how to make yogurt, and other things from scratch, now that my daughter is older and I have the time.

This is also a good book on nutrition - lots to learn in here!

It really should be called "Food Basics for Everyone."
