My Grandson Ethan loves All of the "David" books and so do I.
I've tried to buy every David book I can find because I know that Ethan will be so happy to receive it and read them.
Ethan loves the David books so much that he asked me to create a No! Ethan book for him and I did!!!
I can't tell you the look on his face when I gave him his very own No! Ethan book, it was priceless and worth the hours I spent making it.
The character of David is too cute and a bit mischievious and very sweet indeed and it's funny as well and we laugh at the situations little David gets into.
The David books are short, fun and totally keeps the interests of a small child.

My daughter absolutely LOVES No, David! and when I saw this book, I knew I had to get it for her! Of course her favorite part is David running naked down the street...but the story is so fun and quirky. The illustrations are raw and colorful. It is a nice variation with a simple, wonderful message for the holidays.

I have always loved reading David Shannon's books to my first graders. THEY love reading these books as well. I was very disappointed to get my copy of It's Christmas, David! This is not a book I can read to my students. Most of the text and illustrations are fine, but seeing the results of David peeing his name in the snow goes too far. Six and seven year olds know that David does "bad" things, but urinating in the snow is not something I can share. Teachers take note - this is not a good read aloud. David Shannon - I'm disappointed.

I ordered the book "It's Christmas, David!", and it was described as "new". It was no where near as new, the book was torned up, had colored pages all over, and old. This was a terrible product, with misguided descriptions. Beware of these products.

David Shannon, It's Christmas, David! (Scholastic, 2010)

Everyone has to do a holiday greatest hits album, I guess. We're big fans of David Shannon in our household, not least because our son is named David, and the Diaper David trilogy are frequent reads. He's just turned one, so the No, David! books may be a bit beyond him (not that this stopped grandpa from giving him the first one in the series as a present), but grandma being a Christmas nut, this was destined to show up in our house as soon as the season started popping up in the local stores. And it is a greatest hits album--there are some images that have been recycled from earlier books, but updated with a winter theme (most notably David running down the street with no clothes on, but now there's snow and he's wearing mittens and galoshes). This one's not going to have the durability of the rest of the David books, I don't think, but if you're collecting them... ***

"It's Christmas, David!" is a really quick and easy book for children. Most of the book features two word sentences, so it would be a good book for kids who are just learning how to read. The premise is cute, it shows little David doing some naughty things at Christmas time (a time when children usually try to be on their best behavior). In one picture, David is seen peeking at his presents and in another, David is seen running out in the street without much on. Will David get coal in his stocking? You'll have to read the book to find out.

The book is cute but I didn't really care for the illustrations of David. Like, another review that I saw, I think David is slightly creepy. He's got sharp, wide spaced teeth and his fingers are really pointy. He kind of reminds me of the drawings from those "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" books that I read when I was a kid. If David had been drawn a bit cuter, it would have been a five star review book for me.

My 1st grader has brought home David books from the school library and he always would laugh out loud at them. When i saw this available i knew he would love it, and he does. It's a story about a little boy who wants to peek into the presents, run down the street without clothes on, and for it he thinks he will not get any presents for christmas. He dreams about waking up to coal, but is relieved when he wakes up and its christmas morning and the huge wait is over. The part where David is running down the street without clothes you can see his little butt and my kids thinks it hilarious. I do too. The illustrations aren't vulgar or too much. Its very cartoony and fun. I would recommend this book to parents who want a book that will give your kids a good laugh every time.

Poor David. It seems every time he turns around there is something staring him in the face that will cause him grief. As adults we often forget how tempting big things are to small hands, David is a good reminder. Normal life is hard enough, but during Christmas season the temptations are too hard to ignore.

We can all relate to needing to know what is in the Christmas presents. Playing with the Christmas ornaments is a must. It's not our fault if the most delicate ones are the most fun to play with.

Once again david Shannon has created a story that reminds us all that it is tough to be a kid in a grown up world.

Along with the other David books, this series is a revelation for parents of active childen as well as for the children themselves. All holidays exacerbate children's hyperactive tendancies, and events that are supposed to be full of joy and celebration too often turn to days of yelling and negativity. David Shannon manages to convey such exuberance through his illustrations that adults will themselves feel the excitement of Christmas and possibly a little guilt over the ways they have constrained expressions of happiness. The image of nearly-naked David running outside has become a literary icon in our family and I feel this series has significance outside the genre of children's literature.

Along with the original "No, David!", this book is a huge hit in our house. Our 2-year-old wants to read it all the time, and loves shouting "No, David!" when he does 'naughty' things (such as reaching for forbidden cookies, or throwing a snowball through the window). Our kindergartner cracks up laughing over it too. I never would have imagined this book to be so popular, but the author has really got inside the mind of preschoolers and written something so funny and authentic that really appeals to them. Our preschool teachers say this book is universally popular with kids!

It's Christmas, David!
by David Shannon

Interviewers are Abbygail, 4, Isabel, 3, and Grammy.

"He wanted a bike and he wanted the candy cane off of the tree. He wanted lots and lots of toys. He was a bad boy." - Abbygail

"It was drawn funny. David was a bad boy. He likes Christmas. He got good Christmas presents." - isabel

I received this book at PNBA Convention in Portland and was lucky enough to get two signed copies which is good because those girls are not goin' to share this book. I had to read it twice. Once from Isabel's book and once from Abbygail's book. Then I was invited to listen to them share their books and David's bad behavor with their Uncle/Dad when he showed up to fetch them home.

I found the funniest thing about the book was the fact David was BAD because he played with ornaments off of the tree ... and Isabel has so far this year in one little weekend broken three ornaments off of her family's trees. She hasn't picked up any other bad behavior from David.

Neither of the girls figured out the issue with yellow snow and I didn't feel obligated to explain it to them.

The girls adore this book but I'm thinking the audience could be adults who don't want to grow up. The artwork looks liked it was done by a brilliant crazed 3rd grader. The story line is definitely from David's point of view.

I think I may have to buy another copy for my brother aged 61 ... whose name isn't David... but... I'm sure he worried about lumps of coal too.

Have to give the book 5 stars for enjoyment and for four cover to cover readings in less then an hour. Well done David

My kids enjoyed the first "No, David" book, so much so that yelling "No, David!" became a recurring joke in our household. Unfortunately, this Christmas version never took hold; I think the kids have read it twice and have little interest in returning to it (and they love Christmas). As a parent, the only point at which the book really amused me was when David peed in the snow (go ahead, call me juvenile). I think "No, David" is best left as a single work rather than a franchise.

My mom sent my daughter It's Christmas David this year. She is 2 1/2 and my son is 18 months. They both absolutely love David and ask to read the original No David book regularly. The Christmas book was a hit the first night we read it. My daughter asked to sleep with it in her bed and I found her "reading" it when I woke her in the morning. There is something so simple in David's antics - toddlers seem to immediately identify with David's silly attempts at having fun and finding himself in trouble. It took a little bit of explaining on the snowball fight - we live in Georgia and only see snow once or twice a year, but she loves it all the same. I found her brother flipping the pages himself just this afternoon. We love you David.

There is surely no limit of Christmas books out there and as far as Christmas books go, "It's Christmas, David!" does well enough. The typical formula of naughty David is applied to the Christmas holidays, but in the end, David learns something important. As has already been noted, some may find the illustrations "creepy" or "strange," but those that don't can enjoy this Christmas picture book.

This was my first "David" book and I was somewhat confused while reading it. It's just a lot of "NO" sayings and it seems to be quite negative and unclear. I'm very disappointed with the illustrations as well. As others have mentioned, David looks more like a little monster than a child. I think this could be frightening for some young children. Instead of soft, well-drawn, comforting pictures they are sharp, jagged, and almost "angry" looking. I was taken aback by it and I'm an adult. David also participates in some very naughty behaviors. When he runs down the street naked, vandalizes a house with a snowball, and pees in the snow, I couldn't help but think that this is just absurd. Why would anyone want to read this to a child? Not a Christmas classic, not a classic in any sense. Don't waste your money. There are so many other children's books out there that far surpass this one.

This is my first experience with the David books, and I have to say I'm not impressed. Had I been able to see this book in person, I never would have bought it (so, for that reason, I'm glad I got it free through the store Vine).

First, David is freaky-scary looking. What's up with the pointy teeth? EEK! His head looks like a flesh-colored jack o' lantern.

Second, I expected an actual story, NOT a bunch of two-word and short sentence pages (No peeking! No snitching! Be patient! Hurry up! Go to sleep, David! Those are not toys!). I guess it makes it easier to read but I didn't like the format.

Third, I really didn't like the negativity of the book--and that all the bad stuff he did was apparently wiped away like nothing.

That said, aside from the creepiness of David himself, the artwork is gorgeous, the colors are bright, and there are lots of neat details. But long story short, I would donate this book to the library (if I could).

My kids have loved the David books since the first one (No, David!). This Christmas addition to the series is just as funny as the first 3. The David books work well at starting dialog about proper behavior by having my sons identify what David is doing that he shouldn't be doing. Also, they love the picture of him running naked down the street wearing only a hat, gloves, and boots.

My kids love the David Shannon books. Though some might find his style odd, I think it's delightful, funny and captures expression in a unique and deft way. One of my favorite all-time illustrations of his is the "leaves falling from tress" in Alice the Fairy, because the sheer joy is so touching and humorous.

The David character is a rascal, and some parents may take pause at how he writes his name in the snow, but he's very much an endearing, human and memorable kid, during the holidays or anytime.

We have all the David books because they are easy to read and have humor. The illustrations are rough but that is by design. It follow the same pattern as the other David books. David gets in trouble and is loved in the end. I will not give away the whole story :) However, once again David is running away with his butt exposed.

If you are fan of David books, you will enjoy the Christmas version

I grabbed this off the holiday rack without looking at it, just because we've loved his "Too Many Toys" book so much. When I skimmed through it at home, it went back into the bag to be returned the next day. What a dissappointment.
The artwork was not that great and the text was very limited. It wasn't even all that funny. Just a series of "No, stop and don't do that" for all the classic no-no's that kids are likely to do at Christmas time.
I also don't think it sends the right message, when he gleefully does all the wrong things, and in the end he still gets all the toys. There's a brief moment when it looks like he'll be getting coal in this stocking for being bad, but wait, it was just a dream.
In short, save your money. If you don't have "Too Many Toys" (by same author), DO get that one.

Another Classic No David book. It's Christmas David is another very fulfilling read. David Shannon's illustrations are rich and beautiful. He puts so much detail in his paintings, my son and I play I spy with them. My son's favorite part is David peeing his name in snow!

My five year old loved "David". Great story and morals in the book, perfect for children. It also contains nice illustrations as well. To be honest, I don't find David's appearance particularly pleasant but other than that illustrations captivated my son's attention for a while. Not sure about the pricing, I personally think it's a bit on the expensive side of books for children.

It's Christmas, David! Was, in fact, a Christmas gift to my 4 and 3 year old girls from their Aunt. We read it to the girls exactly one time, during which they looked in horror upon David and the illustrations alternately declaring, "that's not very nice" and "what's wrong with that boy!" At the end, the decided that David reminded them of a real-life boy they know - who does similar things (including removal of his clothing at inappropriate times, though I've never seen him run down the street naked in the winter, nevertheless it is disconcerting behavior). They asked me to put it away. I've never seen either one of them have such an outright negative reaction to a book - they love books of all kinds. Unfortunately a personal greeting was written inside the front cover, otherwise It's Christmas, David! would be en route to the donation bin at the local library.

This book is very amusing for grown ups. However, I don't think a child under 6 or 7 would understand this book, and I did not let my impressionable daughter read this book because I don't want her to do the things the character does. I didn't pass the book on to another child who's name was David. Unless you have a child that already has many many bad behaviors, don't give them any ideas.
