The second book in the series and just as riveting as the first. I read this book whenever possible and as fast as possible. Jenetta Carver continues to advance and show us her brilliant tactics as this book showcases more great space battles.

Again, I don't write long reviews. I really enjoyed this eBook as well. Again, I thought the characters were well developed, the action was generally quick paced and the bad guys were believable. The "universe" was also well developed. Even though FTL travel exists, it is still limited and accounted for within the plot, not just explained away with interstellar distances traveled in days/weeks with no explanation. As the story line continues, our heroine is thrust into challenging position through circumstances beyond her control. As with book 1, well worth the time to read.

I enjoyed the first book so well that I purchased the next 3 available. After reading this one, I am sure that I will continue to read this author. His books flow expertly and the content is fabulous. I enjoy the interaction of characters around the central theme of what I would hope the future military would be. Please keep writing, I will keep reading.
The Clones of Mawcett (A Galaxy Unknown Book 3) :: Return to Dakistee (A Galaxy Unknown Book 8) :: Trader Vyx (A Galaxy Unknown Book 4) :: Naero's Run (A Spacer Clans Adventure Book 1) :: HMS Nightingale (Alexis Carew Book 4)

Loved this book. I found myself cheering Carved on. There were many times I laughed. I am eagerly looking forward to the third instalment of this series. A big thank you to THOMAS DePrima for writing this series. Easily one of my favorite authors.

After reading the first book (on Kindle) I immediately bought books 2 - 4 (all that is available on Kindle at this time). I then proceeded to read book 2 in less than 2 days. I really hope that books 5 - 7 are soon released on Kindle and that 7 is not the end of the line.

This book is even better than the first. The space battles were very detailed and action packed. There were a lot of intricate subplots as well. Nice work, I look forward to more of your military sci-fi novels.

I honestly have trouble believing there are this many 5-star reviews and I can only surmise that someone is gaming the system. I bought this book and the first for a long, international flight and while I was at least able to finish the first, this one was too much. I finally skimmed the last few chapters as there was nothing worth reading. I cannot recall EVER doing this on another novel as I can be a real glutton for punishment. The author doesn't even attempt to create conflict. The heroine can't die. As a one-year graduate from the academy, she infallibly bests the enemy single-handedly while making grizzled military veterans look like amateurs. And she doesn't do this once, but over and over again throughout the first book and this one. I can only imagine that this theme continues moving into future books. I'm sorry, but it gets old. I too like books where the main character triumphs in the end, but Jenetta Carver can't do anything but triumph -- and in a big way EACH. AND. EVERY. TIME.

I thought the first book in this series was pretty darn good. This one tops it. The character matures, the plot thickens and the action is hot. I just bought the third book in the series. Stand by for more.

In a similar vein to Honor Harrington this series gets better with each volume. The lead character is more junior and inexperienced then Harrington but she is still able to defeat the bad guys when placed in a grim situation. A fun read.

This book is a really nice extension of the first book in the series. I once again could not put the book down. I love Science Fiction, and the Galaxy Unknown series is great! I can't wait to read the next book in the series. How is it that I never heard of this series before? Great job Mr. DePrima, I love your books, and the worlds that you create in them.

For me, the redeeming feature of the first book was the interesting set of plot turns and the fast-paced action. This carries a bit less interest, but is also significantly less believable. Anyone who has led a team for any length of time is going to realise that the kind of perfect performance that the hero displays just won't fly - it feels like pastiche rather than drama. Also the climax lacks a certain je'nes c'est qouis.

I was completely enthralled through the entire book. There was non stop action throughout. I particularly enjoyed the conversations between non-commissioned officers about the heroine. Also, I thought the space battles were great, I would rank them just as exciting as the battles from Jack Campbell's The Lost Fleet series or Elizabeth Moon's Trading in Danger series.

I would recommend The Galaxy Unknown and Valor at Vauzlee to anyone, and if your a big science fiction buff who enjoys epic space battles then check this series out.

I've just finished the second book of this series and purchased the third. I truly hope there are more coming. It's been a long time since a series has come out that has captured my atteniton such as this one has. The only complaint I have is, like always, price... When you read as many books as some of us do, price becomes an issue. Outstanding series and well worth the price...

Same vein as the first, but bundles of space combat. Combat scenes had me grinning like a fool, and on the edge of my seat. I do wonder where her personal issues are going to lead though. With all that she had done to her, and what she can do, nothing was really discussed in this book. I would love to see more of that personal stuff come forward, without taking away from what we have seen so far.

The board of admirals have stocked up on casks of whine and cheese, despite all the fun. I can picture them perfectly when ever they talk lol. *grumble* /awe *grumble* but but but /sigh.

Keep up the good work and post more please!

the first book was promising Jenneta Carver seemed like a good character for a series, although a good editor would have turned the said previous novel into a short story , as there were too many rhythm breaking technical explanations, i was looking forward to the second novel.

And boy was i disappointed a word of advice when your heroine or hero makes all the right decisions and is perfect in every way it makes for a very boring read after 50 pages you realized that not only will Carver save the galaxy but she will do it perfectly without making any mistakes, that doesn't leave a lot for the readership to hang on to.

I'm sorry but i' gonna have to pass for the rest of the series.

Valor at Vauzlee is a disappointing sequel to a mildly promising first novel, A Galaxy Unknown. His heroine, Jenetta Carver, progresses from having exceptional skills, luck and character to being quite unbelievable, and not very interesting. The supporting cast, both good-guys and bad, is almost entirely two-dimensional, and serve as little more than props to establish Carver's superiority. In addition, DePrima's writing flaws have not diminished. Most notably, he continues to use obscure technical and scientific terms which might be appropriate in a professional journal, but have no business in a light space opera. It really seems at times that he is simply choosing the most impressive sounding word from a thesaurus entry.

The book isn't so much bad, as pedestrian. There are bits and pieces worth reading, and his heroine could be developed into a very interesting character. A skilled and hard-nosed editor could probably drag a good novel out of the author. Here's hoping DePrima finds one. Until that happens, though, these novels just aren't very good, and certainly not worth paying for.

pretty entertaining books (Ive only read the first two so far) what I really dont understand is why the author feels we must know the exact height of every character who gets introduced into the story, I seriously ended up playing a game with myself by trying to guess how many pages I could read before the words "foot" and "inches" came up, I dont plan on reading the rest of the series as I ended up getting very frustrated with the constant height descriptions, frankly I dont need to know how tall each character is...

I strongly recommend you read the previous book in the series (A Galaxy Unknown) prior to reading this book.

What an outstanding second installment; I literally couldn't put this book down! It was exciting from start to finish and left me salivating for more!

As with the previous installment, the only negative aspect of this book is sometimes the author would drone on just a bit too long on the technical aspect of the story. After I finished this book, I felt like I lost my best friend. I already miss the characters, the excitement and adventure.

To those fellow dark urban fantasy readers, looking for a good SF but don't want to end up with space romance; I highly recommend this book to you, as the style of writing is similar to an urban fantasy read. I eagerly and impatiently await the next book The Clones of Mawcett .

I also recommend:
Song of Scarabaeus
Bitter Night: A Horngate Witches Book
Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane)
On the Edge (The Edge, Book 1)
Black Magic Sanction (Rachel Morgan, Book 8)

Wonderful plot and decent main character development, though aside from Jenetta most of the other characters seem like cardboard cutouts.

This reminds me of a younger, faster-paced Honor Harrington.

The only reason its not getting four stars is the horrible editing. Far too much hashing, re-hashing and re-re-hashing of previous events. If he were to replace two thirds of this needless filler with more detail about the secondary characters it would a far more interesting read. I understand its an unfotunate necessity to cover previous plot points when writing a series but this was just needlessly excessive. There were also far too many mis-spellings, dropped words and wierd shifting of tenses for a finished novel. It read more like second draft than a finished manuscript.

One last point. I understand that this is a space age science fiction novel but i dont need to be reminded every other paragraph that the furniture is all "oh-gee". i get it, stuff floats. move on.

anyways, i hope mr. DePrima does some polishing of the next installment because 80 percent of this stuff is great.

This book has good plot and action sequences, but ultimately is done in by some cliches and poor dialogue. First, the author needs to follow the dictum to "show not tell". Instead the dialogue is too much and too long, where characters tell each other repetitively things that they would all know (like limitations to the ship, reminders of past events, etc). There is also an inordinate number of pages devoted simply to characters talking about how wonderful the main character is, over and over. And the descriptions become like saturday morning cartoons, where we are told that every single character is good-looking, and we are given the exact height of each person as well (this is so pronounced it becomes comical). These descriptions are so jarring it ruins the flow.
I love this genre, really enjoyed the action scenes, and wanted to like this book more, but got done in by the dialogue and descriptions of the people. A good editor could have gone a long way toward cleaning up these flaws.

Jenetta Carver is a fabulous heroine; and her permanent youthful looks and ever changing DNA, along with plenty of villains to defeat, keep her from being boring. I desperately wanted to like this book, because I did enjoy the first one in the series, but this volume just has too many admirals heaping too much admiration upon her.

Yes, I know one must suspend disbelief to enjoy a good space opera. I have no problem with that, but Jenetta is too apt to be worshiped by her superiors as by her subordinates. I can only stand a page or too of hero worship at a time, especially when it is by older guys who should be both arrogant and curmudgeonly.

The sub-plot of a saboteur on board her ship is one of the better elements in this yarn, and there are a sufficient number of battle scenes to keep a reader entertained. Some of the word choices, especially when the author uses archaic terms, annoyed me, but that's minor when compared with my main pet-peeve-- too much admiration from the admiralty.

Although predictable at times, the plot was fast pace and contained a number of twists that keep the reader interested. What I liked most about the story, was the excellent blend of military leadership traits portrayed by the main character. On the other hand, the book tends to make LCDR Carver out to be a Superwomen who never makes a bad decision or a late one. As she once again defeats the raiders single handly, it's hard to push the "I believe button." As simple science fiction entertainment I recommend this book to others.

After reading the first adventure, I couldn't wait for more. Sequels are often dissappointing - NOT THIS ONE! Once again, Thomas DePrima wrote a solid action adventure full of great detail, fun and thrills! I love having a character I can really root for and enjoy these books so much.

Series is getting better. I like this one best of the first three I think. And the best part is there are several books to the series. I know it takes time to prep books for e-release too but we are getting impatient for the rest :) . {even though the first three came out very fast, some authors/publishers wait a year to maximize profits I guess. Not here and thanks for that.} These books are good enough to be impatient for. Weber, Ringo et al, fans will like this, different but just as enjoyable.

The opening pages and the following "meat" of the book left me wanting more! The characters were original and the action sequences were fun to read and re-read! Thanks for the distraction while working out. I can't wait for number 3!
