A strong start with an unique plot couldn't sustain the interest level throughout the book, mostly due to the uneven narrative depth. In earlier chapters, Lee seems to take extra pains to be more descriptive (sometimes annoyingly so) and as the book progress, he seems to have lost his patience and starts explaining things in a "blink-and-its-gone" pace. However, the plot itself is fantastic and the unique thriller/sci-fi blend is imaginative. The lead character seems to have lost a bit of mojo this time around, as we get to see a very different Sam Dryden (the feeling of watching Bourne Identity with someone other than Matt). Lee is a terrific writer in this genre and I will still endorse this series, but one needs to manage the expectations vis-a-vis "the Runner".

Wow, what a powerful, fast-paced, dynamically written page-turner! Author Patrick Lee knows how to draw his readers into the story and holds us there with every twist and turn of the plot.

This novel's premise is based on the very thoughts we've all had at some point; namely, 'what if'. As in, what if you had made a different choice; what would the outcome be? Protagonist Sam Dryden finds himself looking at a way to manipulate events and the course of history. Is it possible to prevent catastrophes and save countless lives? Or, in the wrong hands, how will it be used?

If you're a fan of Lee Child's novels, be sure to read Patrick Lee's SIGNAL. Whether you like suspense, thrillers, or sci-fi, this story will entertain you. Techie geeks will enjoy this one, too. This one's engrossing enough to read on the plane and at the beach, blocking out everything except your intense desire to know what happens next.

Enjoyed this, not as much as the author's previous works, but still much to like. As with previoius works, this is a blend of sci-fi and thriller and you probably need to be comfortable with both genres before you go for this.
What if you had a machine that could predict the future? What good could it do and what harm if in the wrong hands? So here we have Sam Dryden up against the bad guys and these bad guys always know what he is going to do next....
The author seems to specialise in the slightly whacky (and original) stories, and I have to say I always enjoy them. This is not quite as good as some of his stuff but is still grerat fun.

This one quickly grabbed my interest. Fast and suspenseful but with a somewhat flat ending. All in all an enjoyable read and like all the author's previous stories an interesting, well thought out premise. I've purchased and read Patrick Lee's previous four novels and enjoyed them all. All excellent action thrillers with a splash of science fiction that are right up my alley and "Signal" continues in that vein.

The previous novel (Runner) was excellent and did well on character development. This novel was odd in that it used to same character, but did not so much as nod to the previous story line. Not one bit. It was as if Lee wanted to write another thriller in a completely different world, but figured he'd use the Sam Dryden name to prop it up. This really should have been just a separate story.
Novel-series confusion aside, the development of this plot line was shaky at best. At it's good parts it was pretty interesting, but other times just slipped into feeling like a contrived good-guy bad-guy rehash. Hope his next is on par with his other work!

This is fast paced and captivating at the start. However, readers of the first book in the series will soon notice that Sam doesn't have it all together this time. He's lost something and that's never identified. He is still invincible to the point of being annoying. It seems like he should get bruised or scratched eventually.

Hey, this is still a good action thriller. Okay, the pace does abruptly slow down towards the end with way too much description replacing action. All the same, this is a good read. Just don't expect the best.

A brave second entry in the series. "Runner" was a non-stop page turner. This leaves the child behind and follows Sam. Many of Lee's tales involve time and space issues. This does also. Although not as compelling as the first, this is still a very good series. Let's see where it goes.

Patrick Lee approaches Dean Koontz territory with a novel featuring Sam Dryden and something really clever --- a machine that allows you to listen to radio broadcasts from the near future.

While it is a challenge to keep this premise consistently interesting (after revealing it in the second chapter), Patrick Lee hits the ground running and never stops. First, Dryden is involved in rescuing four abducted girls who were to perish in a brutal car fire. Then --- he hears a broadcast announcing his own death and things really get interesting.

Unique and interesting throughout --- a fun read!

What if you could see into the future? Would you use your power for good, for profit, or to advance yourself? Sam Dryden gets a call from a former special ops partner to meet, with some specific paranoid instructions. He finds she has a machine that can pull in future radio broadcasts. They undo a horrible murder and get into a shootout after the facts. This opens the door to an adventure involving rich neo-nazis, the FBI, and multiple political twists.

I love that Mr. Lee, has written a suspense novel based on a basic existential question. This is a very good read that I highly recommend.

I have enjoyed Patrick Lee since the beginning with the Travis Chase series and continuing with the Sam Dryden books. He has the rare ability to inject unnatural elements into natural settings to create a sense of mystery and suspense with a hint of the supernatural. I simply could not put this book and/or his other books down which has always been a great indicator of how good a book is. I can hardly wait until his next book comes out!

The author's "Runner" was excellent, and in bringing back hero Sam Dryden, "Signal" is even better! This action tale with sci-fi elements is fascinating, exciting, well-plotted stuff that will envelop you from start to finish.

Tremendous pace, vision, suspense. This is my first foray into this author, and man, did he kept me rolling, reading, signing, gasping..A chapter that made no sense, then the next chapter another part of the story is revealed...revealing sense to the previous chapter! Nothing is wasted in the story, everything has value, and so well written. And hell, when you didnt think the plot couldnt get anymore gripping, it went up a couple of notches. What an interesting scientific plot...and I loved every page. Okay, I am hooked.

Sam Dryden was living a quiet life, working on remodeling houses to sell and slowly easing into a social life when he receives a call from Claire Dunham, an old friend. Claire is one of the few people Sam trusts implicitly, and her message is brief and clear--Sam needs to leave his house immediately, and come meet her.

This single phone call draws Sam into a tense and bizarre situation where the "bad guys" always seem to be one step ahead, and Sam is forced to believe the unbelievable. It is difficult to review this book without any spoilers! It is full of action, suspense, chasing, hiding, smart solutions, and a bit of science fiction. I don't usually care for the type of bizarre science fiction this story contains, but it is well written, and handled in a scientific way instead of just being a plot technique to allow the writer to do crazy things.

Overall, if you enjoy suspense, mysteries, lots of actions, and a bit of a thinking story, you'll want to read Signal.

At first i was reluctant to keep reading this thinking the nature of the story was somewhat 'sic-fi'…but i kept reading and so glad i did. While the premise of this novel is quite literally "out there" it is a modern day suspense story. You will be relieved to arrive at the last page so that you can breathe again. Sam Dryden meets up with ….no, trust me. The compelling story need not be told. Pick up this book and enjoy!!!

This was my first experience with a Patrick Lee thriller. This Sam Dryden thriller was so good, I'm reserving the previous one 'Runner' from the library. The pacing was furious, and the sci-fi type plotting was original and fascinating. Patrick Lee is now on my 'must read' list.
