This book hits all the highlights and important players in church history as well as many lesser known facts, which are interesting. History is told as an unfolding story that retained my interest on every page.

"The Story of Christianity" puts Christian monks, martyrs, popes, heretics, saints, kings, persecutors and women in their proper context. The book is a Sunday School appropriate, scholarly account of Christians who passed on the faith from one generation to another.

Really great history of the church from Christ until the Reformation. Gonzalez does a great job of consolidating the history while at the same time, giving good explanation behind many of the historical events.

Very Well written. Very sad book. Christian history appears to be full of pride, political intrigue and violence. It is interesting to note that the person who translated the Vulgate also called Luther and Calvin heretics. Makes you think...

Easy to read. Huge sections on martyrs. To many stories of individuals, and neglects actual CHURCH history. The 100 + years following the Apostles are critical history. I.E.. There were 6 schools to train ministers. 1 taught Annihilationism of sinners, 1 taught eternal torment of sinners, and 4 taught varieties of Universalism. Here's a third century question: What's the value of a first century GREEK translation, and a fourth century LATIN translation (Catholic at first - and most English translations today)?

This book is very crucial to helping one to understand the background of the Christian faith and how it got started. It is great for students in seminary school, and for those who just want to know more about how the Christian faith started.

Approachable writing style coupled with scholarly research. Great volume for a general survey of early Christian History. I would recommend this book to Bible Students and interested lay people as well.
