Irving as as good a legal thriller writer as Grisham, Baldacci, etc. I think that as an accomplished author he has proven himself to be fully up to the task of keeping discriminating readers completely satisfied, and has affirmed that with this book. Great characters, plot, and technical accuracy.

This is a very cleverly written story, great plot and I enjoyed reading it a lot - tho it had a slow start and I had trouble keeping engaged until about 1/4 of the way thru - then I got really hooked. Love the courtroom scenes and the characters are well developed and believable. Now I must read Clifford Irving's other books!

Started slowly, as many books do, but soon grabs your interest and makes you care. The interweaving plot of courtroom drama and personal turmoil is compelling. The characters are well developed and their stories makes them matter to the reader.
A Lucy Guardino FBI Thriller Novel (Lucy Guardino FBI Thrillers Book 1) :: A Sean Wyatt Archaeological Thriller (The Lost Chambers Trilogy Book 1) :: THE WAY OF GRACE (A Miller's Creek Novel Book 3) :: Love at Last (Last Frontier Lodge Novels Book 2) :: The Whistleblower Onslaught

Never mind that the author knows the law - Irving knows how to create characters who are truly memorable. At their best and at their word. He spins tales so intricately that you spend way more than your allotted time relishing the in common threads among them all.
Everyone has their own truth. It's up to the lawyers to use their legal knowledge to make a difference.

Would it be ethical for a lawyer in sole practice to take on two murder defenses, including a capital murder, while going through an devastating personal crisis? Isn't this the poster child for 'ineffective assistance of counsel'?

I enjoyed the book. it could have stayed on subject, however and didn't need the sexual details of the main character, I like a mystery and love court trial stories, maybe i'm getting to old to mix the sex with the court action.

I really loved the way that the author was dealing with several situations, yet he was able to keep them in there place and make them easy to follow. Often authors attempt the plots in a similar way that this one was handled and end up with a convoluted mess. I love courtroom drama, and am always excited when a new approach to the legal system is presented. Some outcome was predictable, but the avenue to the conclusion was often a surprise. Great read!

Clifford Irving weaves an interesting and complex story about two murder trials. These trials are seemingly unconnected, but the resolution of both are entwined. The courtroom scenes are great, and the side story of Warren Blackburn, his marriage and the arc of his career add depth. Recommended.

To me 5 stars indicates perfection, and nothing in this world is totally & completely without flaw. The flaws in this very, very readable book are few and minor. One major case and a couple minor ones held my interest throughout. So, with that proviso, I give it 5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. In fact, after reading it, I ordered all of Clifford Irving's books. The book is about a lawyer defending 2 clients. One guilty and the other innocent. The author does a good job of letting us get to know the characters.

I love this series, would recommend it. The pace is a bit drawn out, you will probably know about 60% through the book, who the "guilty" party is, at least I did, but getting there in the other 40% was absolutely interesting.

There is no stopping this mystery. One sharp turn after another, and very well put together. There is however a problem with the editing, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. Too many times the number 1 is used in place of the word I. And format jumps all over the place.

This book held my interest, and I recommend it to anyone who likes a story about lawyers and courtroom trials. I did figure out how the lawyer-hero would solve his problems inevitably, and had a self-satisfied feeling that I was right. Enjoy!

There are some books - some stories - that are just plain fun to read; this was one of those. Grab a drink, settle down in your favorite chair, and start reading. It's a weekend's worth of fun. A book that you will enjoy spending the weekend with.

Each character was well developed, the story moved along, and it held my interest to the point that I didn't want to put it down. I HAD to find out what was going to happen! The twists and turns were fun, and I would certainly not hesitate to read another book by this author.

While starting out rather slow; it soon became one of the books that you hate to put down. Well-developed characters helped move things along at a good pace and I enjoyed the ride. Irving did a good job of building up the suspense so it was a fast read leading to a quick download of the book he wrote after this one. With this long drawn-out winter here in the northeast I can look forward to spending more time reading indoors with this kind of distracting literature.

Irving is very creative. And his writing is superb. The plot really hangs together. I am going to read all his stuff. Courtroom drama is my favorite. Irving is one of the best writers of this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I have discovered a new favorite author in Clifford Irving. You will want to read this novel in one sitting. Warren Blackburn is one of those guys you just have to cheer for to win despite what his colleagues, his wife, and his clients think of him.
