I love all of the books in this series. Tempted was a good addition. cant wait for Hunted, but this one was a good little book before the next one. Its not overly long and will make for a good evening read.

This book is about Sarah who has witnessed a horrible act of violence by an evil race of creatures. Also trying to catch her, but to help her, are a family of vampires. Max is the alpha male who is sent to bring her in. A predictable romance follows. The main theme of this series is male vampires trying to protect their female mates from destruction. To me it seemed a poor imitation of the Midnight Breed series, which has a far better plot, it better written and has much more detailed and likable characters. This book was short and an easy read. Fortunately I got it for free but I would not recommend paying money for it.

Bodyguard and warrior, Max always gets his man. In this case he's not after a man though, he's after a scared woman on the run. Sarah knows what she saw and what she saw was a vampire attack. Labeled as crazy and shut away she escapes only to run into the one thing everyone tells her isn't real.....a vampire. Except Max doesn't want to kill her, he claims to want to help her if she'll help him. He and his band of vampire brothers need access to a lab only Sarah can get them into. Does Sarah dare help Max, a being she should be afraid of? And if she should be so afraid, why does her body ignite every time he even looks her way? Max knows they are destined to be together but can he keep her alive long enough to permanently seal their bond?

The Dark Protectors series now has a novella to add along side the full length novels I have come to love and count among my favorite series of all time! Generally a novella is meant to tide over voracious readers while they wait for the full length novels to come out. Sometimes with a year between books authors will rely on the novella to hold the interest of readers and bring them back to the series with each new release. Book 2 of the Dark Protectors series, Claimed came out in Oct of 2011. Tempted was just released March 27th and book 3, Hunted, comes out on the 24th of this month. So the novella seems to be a bit late to tide people over but you won't find this reader complaining. I will take peeks into this series anytime Rebecca wants to share them with me.

This novella showcases Max, Janie's warrior bodyguard and his transition from deadly assassin to protective but lovable babysitter. A loner for years Max isn't sure he can be the protector Dage wants him to be and connect with the little girl. Though Janie seems instantly at ease with him, Max doesn't assimilate as quickly but eventually become a best friend to the little seer. After several months he is sent on a mission to find a woman who may have the answers the vampires seek, access to a lab that created a protein to help in the battle against the diseases attacking their mates. Problem is, Sarah has been labeled as crazy because she witnessed a Kurjan attack and she's on the run from them, her half brother who wants complete control over the pharmaceutical company they run and the hospital she escaped from.

From the moment they meet Max and Sarah feel the undeniable connection between them. That alpha instinct I've come to love in this series comes roaring full force into Max and he just knows she is his. Though she has no idea that Vampires/Kurjans are real or different, she adjusts quickly upon finding out the truth and embraces Max with everything she has. Coincidentally she's also is a teacher and just what Max needs to help with Janie and all the other shifter children and soon to be vampire kids.

Her access to the pharmaceutical company and her half brothers duplicity with the Kurjans becomes the problem at the forefront. Sarah, though she is constantly passing out from shock which got annoying, takes everything in stride...mostly. She holds together fairly well, aside from the passing out of course and I did generally like her character. I found myself chuckling at her feeble attempts at fighting. I really hope that Max teaches that woman to land some effective blows because while she tried her best to be a viable opponent, she is really weak in that area. Very...human. I also laughed at Max's attempt to NOT mate her because he was concerned for her safety with the mate disease seemingly running rampant. I kept thinking, uh, since when can they stop it? I mean Conn mated by accident according to the other brothers (something that will be delved into in book 3, Hunted). So certainly, if a mating could be stopped then Conn wouldn't have mated his witch. Max seems insistent though and because he was thinking only of her safety I have to love him for it. Even if it was inevitable.

A solid novella giving us a peek into one of the most amazing series I've ever read! I'm so glad that Zanetti seems to be able to write the full length novels and then switch easily into novella mode.

I give Tempted by Rebecca Zanetti 4 stars!

Max & Sarah's story:

Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Instalove, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book.

I loved this novella on Max and Sarah. Just the idea of a hulking vampire that watches over 4 year old Janie made him loveable to me in the very short appearances in books 1 & 2. We do not get to see him with Janie in this novella. This is all about him finding, retrieving and claiming Sarah, his mate. It was very fast paced and short, so of course I wish it was longer and I would have liked to see him introduce Janie to Sarah. Maybe that will be in the books to come.

This is a quick read, only a 90 page novella. So far I don’t think it has a major role in the greater story arch, but does introduce Max’s mate to the world. It would probably be alright to skip if you are reading the series. It would be shame though because even though it was short it was really a fun read.

This story starts off like the others with a great action scene that draws you in and grabs you. It reminded me of how the first story started, although there are enough difference to make it not feel like a formula the author turns to to begin a story. The characters develop a great chemistry right off the bat and I was rooting for them to come together from early on. I liked Max, finally we find a more sensitive lest neanderthal man in this world. The Kayrs brothers should be paying attention to how Max treats his mate. Perhaps it is just the Royal family that needs to be pulled out of the the dark ages. We don’t see much of Dage or Talen or their mates in this book, but the other brothers play a role in Max and Sarah’s story. We also get to see a bit of Jamie as well.

I liked how this story was a twist on the mating ritual or what-not that is the center of most of these stories. In this one Sarah is more into a long term pairing than Max is. It was nice to see the guy be the hesitant one for once. Oh its not that he doesn’t want Sarah, but with the mates being targeted in this world he doesn’t want to put her in danger.

Not a lot more to say, again it was a short but action packed story and I enjoyed getting to know some of the other brothers a bit. Up next is going to be Conn’s story. He was the only brother mated before the war started, he is also the only one that let his mate go and live apart from him. Moira is also the first mate we are going to meet that isn’t human, she is a powerful witch. I’m looking forward to see how their story compares to the others.

Great novella that includes a hulking giant of a vampire, my current favorite, Max. I fell in love with Max during and particularly at the end of the prologue. Swoony goodness right there ladies. If you don’t read anything else in this short book, you absolutely must read the prologue.

I like novellas but have a hard time finding one that gives me plenty of meat along with plenty of steam, a great alpha and a heroine I don’t want to throw through the window. This one met all my novella wishes and then some. It has a great story that could probably be picked up without having read the previous books in the series.

I will have to agree with other reviewers. This is too short. It was a great story. I can see Max clearer. His relation with Janie is so special. Opened his heart. Sarah is cute. Great match for Max. He seems so in control. I'm sure Janie already keeps him on his toes. Sarah will definitely be a challenge. I love the brothers in this series. They have such huge hearts, even though they are so tough. Took Max in without question. It just took him a couple of hundred years to realize he fit in somewhere, but the brothers knew immediately. Sarah is tough. Great addition to the strong women contingent. The ending seemed a bit rushed, but I'm sure we'll get more of them in the coming books. Enjoy!

I was excited that Max got his own book. Wish it was full length, but I will take what ever I can get with these sexy heroes, Rebecca has created. I have been curious about Max since the beginning of this series when he started being Janiefs bodyguard.

Loved how we got to see his past and how he became Janiefs bodyguard. He is so sweet to Janie in Fated #1 and Claimed #2, but it was a treat to see him with her for the very first meeting in the beginning of Tempted. It is amazing how this huge vampire soldier is a fighting machine and can kill without thinking twice about it, then he is so sweet and gentle with Janie. I felt so bad for him for having a drunken father and was so happy that it was Dage who saved him and brought him into his family. I love their relationship as if they were brothers. Dage does not treat him any different then he would his own family. In Dagefs eyes Max is his family.

Max is a concerned alpha male hero. He is not one with a lot of patience when it comes to his family and his mate.

"I will not hurt you. Now take off the damn underwear and warm the hell up."

He has always been a bada** soldier and never new how to love and be sweet to others till he started being Janie"s bodyguard. He has his moments when he can be so sweet to Sarah.

"You donf't seem like a snuggler." (Sarah)

"Ah sweetheart. I've been known to snuggle, cuddle, wipe away crocodile tears, and even buy Band-Aids decorated with ponies. I"m harmless." (Max)

He was born and raised in Russia until Dage Rescued him and brought him the United States. He is always calling her Milaya. It means pretty one in Russia. I adore it when he would call her this. Loved seeing the gentle side in him when he was around Sarah.

Max like all of Rebecca's heroes are very protective of their mates and do not do well when their mates put them selves in danger.

"Ifm fine with dating. With courting. What I'm not fine with, what you'll never do again, is put yourself in the path of a bullet. Ever." His gaze locked hard with hers. "I'm an easygoing guy sweetheart. But I have a line, and you found it. Don't cross it again."

I loved the talk Max and Conn have and the advice Conn gives him about Max's mate. Was excited to see a little bit of Conn and him getting ready for his story.

Do not let this short novella scare you away because of the length. Rebecca does a great job with fitting all you need to know about max and more in it. You really do not need to read this before Hunted #3 but it is a bonus to get all the goods on Max. I highly recommend this series for all Paranormal fans.

This novella is a nice little side romance that takes place between the events of Claimed and Hunted. It doesn't really advance the overall arc of the series, but it features several characters from the full length books. It also dips into the established worldbuilding and the romance provides some great sexual tension and some satisfying bedroom action.

The hero of the story is Max. He's one of the vampires who helped take care of Janie in the earlier books. He is tough as nails and built like a brickhouse. The Kayrs brothers sort of adopted him after he left behind an abusive father in Russia, but he never really considered himself part of the family. He never really let himself feel, until Janie helped open his heart.

Now he has a new mission: find and protect a special, enhanced woman who is in danger from the Kurjans. Sarah was almost killed by them, but when she went to the police, it earned her a one-way ticket to an insane asylum. Max must convince her to trust him, while teaching her all about the supernatural world she has stumbled into. It won't be easy; her own brother is working with the enemy to take her down. But with Jase and Conn around to help, the good guys are armed for the fight.

I liked the romance here, because even though Max is tough and powerful, he doesn't feel the need to utterly dominate Sarah. Even though he knows she is his mate, he gives her choices. He treats her with respect and doesn't threaten her dignity. My favorite line of the book:

"He had no intention of being a bossy ***hole with her."

If only more alpha heroes felt that way! As for Sarah, she is ok. I didn't have strong feelings for her one way or another, except that I was happy that she accepted Max without the requisite drama of the other heroines, and gave him some happiness.

It's been a long time since I sat down and read a book in one sitting...a long time. And I fell into TEMPTED by accident. I'd signed up for a giveaway of Ms. Zanetti's latest release, SHADOWED over at Tome Tender Book Blog ([...] although I didn't win, the book sounded interesting. Then while scanning through my Kindle looking for the next read, I saw that I had TEMPTED. What a great discovery TEMPTED and Ms. Zanetti turned out to be. TEMPTED is a wonderful take on the whole vampire genre. I like Ms. Zanetti's entire concept about mates and extra chromosomes. Her writing style is sharp, sassy, and super sexy. I absolutely loved the hero, Max, and heroine, Sarah. Her secondary characters also were a joy and fleshed out extremely well.

Ms. Zanetti's technique drew me in and the real world disappeared as I stayed up into the wee hours finishing TEMPTED. I'm not sure if I should thank Ms. Zanetti or chastise her for my lack of sleep.

If I have one complaint it's that the ending seemed rushed. I wanted more! But I guess that's what good writing is all about, leaving the reader wanting more and that's what Ms. Zanetti did, left me wanting. Looks like TEMPTED is the third book in the Dark Protectors series, so I'll have to start at the beginning, but TEMPTED worked as a standalone. And now that I've hopped onto the Dark Protectors series bandwagon, I'm sure I won't regret the ride. A well deserved 5 stars!

Tempted (Dark Protectors, #2.5) is a Paranormal Suspense Adult Romance. At about 90 pages it is a short read, but don't let the size fool you. Fast paced and overflowing with suspense and action. Max is a gentle and intelligent giant of a man (vampire). Sarah is a highly intelligent but very frightened woman. She has good reason to be afraid. They fit perfectly and heat up the pages with their passion!
The Kurgans are hot on their trail. At every turn they are faced with danger.
I can't wait to read book 3 'Hunted'. I already have it downloaded and ready to go.
Looks like I have to add Rebecca Zanetti to my Favorite Authors list.

Sarah Pringle knows she's not insane no matter what her half-brother says. She knows she saw an innocent murdered by a Vampire! Unfortunately her proclamations of such landed her in a mental institution but Sarah broke out the dastardly place and is on the run.

Max is used to protecting a sweet child by the name of Janie. When he gets sent after a schoolteacher his life gets more complicated than he ever expected. One look into Sarah's eyes and Max knows he must protect her from those hunting her and herself!

The Kurjans have marked Sarah for death. Can Max protect her and seduce her at the same time?

Tempted is another stellar addiction to Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protector's series. I am head over heels in love with this series! Max and Sarah prove that small packages can contain one hell of great story much like a full-length novel. The attraction is instant, hot and irresistible when Max and Sarah meet. Their journey is fraught with suspense, drama and hot sex. I just love how this story is completely tied into the previous book. While it can be read as a stand-alone I definitely recommend that this series be read in order because it is sensational! I'm holding my breath in anticipation of the next Dark Protector book, Hunted!

Tempted is the 2.5 installment of the series, but it's the first one I've read. Overall I thought it was a good story. It was intersting, fast paced, with likeable characters. Being 2.5 does mean that it's not a full length book, so the story is on an accelerated time frame. The bulk of the book occures over a three day time span. So my one criticism would be the love at first sight aspect of the story. To me it was unnecessary to say the characters were in love. They were definately in lust, and had the pull of the mating bond between them. It could easily have been left at that with their commitment to each other without the declarations of love. It is a series so it's concievable that in later books we would be able to see how their loved progressed from a mating bond connection into love, but that's just my opinion. Still as I said I liked the book a lot. I LOVED Max. And I am going back to get the first book of the series and catch up.

This installment is 2.5 in the series. You really need to read the books in order to understand the content and character development. With that being said...this short little story was great, it still encompassed all of the writings as the full length stories and was perfect to hold you over until the next book is available.
If you are already a fan and you are familiar with these incredible men, then you will be delightfully pleased as you discover Max' s story.
I hope you enjoy this series as much as I : )

Max is the protector. He's been Janie's bodyguard from the very first. He's big, strong, smart, gentle and loving. Now he has Sarah. She's in trouble. She's enhanced she's his mate. He and the team rescue her, get the information on the virus and catalyst and defeat the bad guys, except for Erik who escapes. For a ax and Sarah this is a win-win situation.

Modern day setting with vampires living hidden among us. This novella is long enough to feel you get your money's worth. Super soldier vampire protects a woman who is threatened by evil vampires. Cute kid in the prolog is alas a cameo. Some erotica, some fantasy violence, mostly romance. Part of a series but can be read in isolation.

I love Max!! He was one of my favorite characters in this series since he first showed up in Fated and this big, burly, dangerous vampire lets this tiny, little girl paint his fingernails for losing at Go Fish. How awesome is he!!

I only gave it four stars since the story was so short, we barely get to meet Sarah and we really only get a very brief story. It was enjoyable, but I would have liked more.
