This is an excellent source for finding free or better paid services than Kindle Unlimited (KU). The author gives you the name and description of some of the other free e-book apps, and some apps that cost similar to KU but have better selections of best selling books, that really make me feel foolish for spending $120 a year for KU.

Some good advice, particularly about using your local library e-reader, and reasons you might actually want to sign up. It's definitely worth a read during your trial period for KU, since it is free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers.

A) it's super hypocritical that this is available to read for free on KU
B) Kindle Unlimited costs me $10/month
I was spending $50+/month on books before that, books I rarely read more than once
I also get to discover new & self published authors then donate to their websites or purchase OTHER books by them.
KU is perfect for me

Thanks for sharing. I do adore reading indie authors, however I am unwilling to pay 120.00 for the honor of doing so. I see TONS of authors; people who DESPERATELY NEED a good editor. Hire ME!!! LoL. I read very fast and can find errors quickly. I give hinest reviews...many are not nice, but they are truthful. I dont try to be insulting, but firm and honest. I DESPISE young female authors who overuse the word "smirk", and dont know the difference between "snickers" and "sniggers". Hint: One is a favorite candy bar. I should write an ebook of pet peeves regarding authors.lol. Sorry to make your review about me- its just that you nailed it in regards to bad indie writing. I could not agree more. It IS fun to follow the writers who truly have potential, and watch them mature in their craft.
Thank you so much for the useful information! You have definitely kept me from wasting 120 bucks. Your short piece was helpful and informative. I appreciate it!

This book is invaluable to determining whether to subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. Blake lays out his objection, tells you why he makes that objection, and provides enough insider information to allow you to decide what value to give his objection. The guidance on how to use typical library-based services was a bonus.

Author provides both sides of the argument for and against KU. He presents alternatives that should get the reader started on exploring the electronic universe for free reading sources. He didn't mention the Gutenberg Project, though.
This is a quick read and educational. I am not disappointed.

The author is opposed to Kindle Unlimited, but I borrowed the book through Kindle Unlimited. So this author is contributing to Kindle Unlimited. So you are profiting from the very membership to which you are opposed.

I was a little uncertain about getting a KU subscription. After reading this, I downloaded Overdrive. Overdrive is amazing! And so much better than KU. Thank you for the recommendation and I will definitely not continue KU after the 30 day trial.

I was immediately frustrated by KU - poor selection & difficult to navigate on the phone. This little booklet pointed me toward two library apps (zinio and overdrive) which are free. Liking them both so far, and canceling KU.

Thank you for sharing the pitfalls of Kindle Unlimited. I agree with everything you said, especially the part about the poor selection. I thought I just didn't know how to look becaus none of my favorite authors are available. I do love finding new good authors, but not ones who write the books I have found in Unlimited. Most of them have poorly developed characters and plots.

I was skeptical about even reading this. It might have been ravings of a disgruntled customer who was nothing like me. However, I found it informative and will be checking into the other sources of e-books that were listed.
