Review:Very well written book, with the author drawing upon conviction borne of personal experience. I think a few more anecdotes, examples, and stories would have added some color and helped illustrate many of the points presented, but overall worth the read. Read more
Review:A dialogue between two thoughtful world views in an approach toward understanding and reason on both sides of the debate about the place of religion in the modern world. An easy to grasp overview of a complex and fraught topic. Sam Harris' voice is unique and always stimulating. Read more
Review:An incredible book. Very well researched and written. Having lived through this I find it incredible how many lies were being told in the upper levels of government and to the American people. I see too many parallels to what is happening in Iraq. A must read. Read more

Review:This is fascinating and explains the many nationalities and their personality traits of my ancestors, relatives, and friends, who are Northerners and Southerners: Some are Yankees (Wisconsin, Minnesota, northeast Iowa), some are Midlands (south central Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana), some are Appalachians (Tennessee), some are Far Westerners (North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming), some are Left Coasters (Oregon, California) and some are Southern (transplants living in Georgia and North Carolina). Review:This book caught my attention when I read the title & ordered it immediately. My brother's best friend in school was 6'8" and he had 2 cousins just as tall or taller. It was a bit of a handicap for them in those days (1960's) because the rest of world was so much shorter and it was challenging for them to live with the American standard. I wonder now if those 3 tall handsome guys share the DNA of the giants in this book. Thank you Richard Dewhurst for digging up the truth about the "giant" ... Read more
Review:...and now my son does, too. The myths are presented in an order that makes a nice flowing narrative. The lovely illustrations reflect details of the exact story being told. My son enjoyed searching the pictures for them.
These myths are entertaining while also providing 'cultural information' like where modern words and phrases come from. (i.e. the story of Narcissus and Echo, Tantalus, the great flood, Pandora's box.)
A wise and fun buy! Read more
Review:First, I want to emphasize that I think this book is excellent and I recommend it to anyone interested in the subject matter. I like how it is organized chronologically, following the actions of the various criminals in parallel. It's loaded with details that I found very interesting and I think it was about time to debunk the myth about Purvis who was really more of a bumbling, over-confident publicity hound than he has generally been portrayed. It's also interesting that he wasn't even in cha... Read more
Review:This book was recommended to me by a therapist and it is literally changing my life a little at a time. It is VERY user-friendly and can be used on its own or with a therapist. I've only had it for a month but the change in myself is evident daily. Do complete the worksheets - they are where the most useful changes occur. Read more
Review:An excellent summary of how mindfulness works to keep you in the "now" and combat ruminations and depression. At present I have found that I cannot commit to the 8 week process as I'm in the middle of another course, but I am using as much mindfulness as I can. Read more
