Humor & Satire
Review:This book is absolutely amazing! I read it once about a month ago and then had to read it again. The characters are hilarious in their own quirky ways and there is never a dull moment, ever. I highly recommend this book but make sure you have time to just sit and read because once you start you're not going to want to stop. Read more
Review:Though parts of the story are frightening this love story leaves you with bated breath as you turn the pages and stay up way too latte to read another chapter. Gut wrest aching excitement and a message of faith in hometown. People. Read more
Review:What fun. Saw this book referred to in another. This one is better.. Escapist, cozy book about another life, when things were much simpler, safer and quieter - esp if you were young men of means. Light hearted and full of quotable passages of wry looks at our very human follies.. A small treasure for a good mood. Read more
Review:A silly little story with fun characters and an unfortunately believable setting. Have read it a few times to friends now, would recommend to anyone that wants a little escape. There were legit twists I was not expecting, while some cliches were stuffed in, there was enough completely strange to keep me from sighing. Love it! Read more
Review:I loved the characters and their growth from beginning to end. I actually laughed out loud a few times and found myself wanting to keep reading even when it was over. Only negatives are that it never said what happened (so hopefully there’s a sequel that explains) and the vaccine being the reason for dev’s Aspergers which is just not true or even believable. Felt like that author could have left that out and it would have made a better story to have it be from an unknown cause which is more accu... Read more
Review:Was really excited about book. Was disappointed. Places in story that were peaking fell flat with the story telling. Either author needs to be more uninhibited or lacks ability to express her passion. I would be willing to give her writing another change only because I love her as an actress. Read more
Review:Good read. Interesting plot, especially when it comes to those who have been married for awhile - makes you think. You root for the characters and laugh at their antics. There's someone that everyone can identify with in this book. Read more
Review:I have read many Sophie Kinsella books. I have re-read many of them. This will probably not be a re-read, but it was good. The characters were likeable. The plot was decent. It just seemed to be missing that extra oomph to make it a re-read book. Read more
Review:After finishing the brilliant and hilarious “Diary of a Nobody,” I made the brave decision to read another satirical British novel about a young lecturer of medieval history set in post-World War II Britain.
The main reason I chose to read this book is because as a kid growing up in a Siberian gulag, I had always dreamed of becoming a medieval history lecturer of British descent.
“Lucky Jim” produces the occasional moments of satirical genius, such as when the protagonist, who is o... Read more
Review:I love Rita Mae Brown, so I tolerate her tendency to have the characters launch into preachy monologues that rarely sound like the way people usually talk. I think her older novels are vastly superior to the mystery series, but I keep reading them. There are a few things in this book that were made me really not like this book.
First, the some of the segues were clunky.
Second - and I will admit I may be being a touch snobby about this - but the book included a medical doctor talki... Read more
