DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!! This story just goes on and on and on.........backwards three steps, forwards one step. Could not even complete 75% of this nonsense - I really tried!!!!

I loved this book for so many reasons! It grabbed me from the start and did not stop. The science and astronomy references were also something that I enjoyed because astronomy has always been something I had an interest in.
This story has just enough mystery, romance, family relationships, and love of space to make for one heck of a read!

The story was very entertaining without a great amount of gore and foul language added. I will certainly read more by this author. The main character lost her way in her marriage & began to have doubts about her husband's innocence in a murder. His disappearance added to her unease and those around her were eager to put the blame on him.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. Sarah works for NASA, her husband Ben , owns a popular L.A. restaurant. They have been married fifteen years and have a fourteen year old son. From the outside, they seem to have the perfect life. Sarah has just returned from DC, presenting the find of a lifetime but Ben isn't home. Thus begins this suspenseful twisted story. I could NOT put it down. I found myself tethered to the wall, charging the kindle so I could continue the story. 4.5 twisted stars.

Wow! This book grabbed me from the very first page. I was walking around the house reading it when ever I could. I really liked Sarah and Ben’s characters. I had a couple suspicions along the way but they didn’t pan out. Great book! I highly recommend this if you like a good thriller/mystery and throw in a second chance.

THE SPACE BETWEEN unwinds the familiar trope of the missing husband and the wife who finds her husband kept many, many secrets from her. Because this story line has been done so much recently, it takes a very adept writer to bring it to life as something fresh. Although Meserve's descriptions of the stars and all things astronomical were good, the rest of the writing felt somewhat pedestrian and the pacing just wasn't very exciting. The book moved along at one measured pace, which failed to build suspense.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this 4.5 ⭐️/5star read. This was a great straight forward mystery, not one of those twisty psycho thrillers that are mass produced these days. It was refreshing to read a mystery about characters you cared about but still questioned. Engrossing. A fast read and I loved the astronomy aspects.

There are many thrillers, with missing people that I have read recently and heard about even more. I begin with this because though there is a missing person in this story, and there are hidden facts that come into the light and suspiciously behaving people this does not fall into the same categories as those thrillers. SO much so that I refrain from labelling it as such.
Sarah Mayfield just reaches home after a triumphant time about her team's latest discovery to find only her son at home. There is something off at home, she finds out how off a few hours later. Strange things start to pile up. Her husband is missing, there is a gun at home and their surveillance system seems to have crashed. The police and some high power people are all involved in something shady. The highlight of the tale are the people themselves. No one is as they seem. Each person is not defined by individual actions but all of them as a collective group. It was refreshing to read about people who we can read about and imagine without cringing. They aren't perfect but they are believable.

I honestly finished this book in one day! Great pool read for someone looking for literature that can create a visual experience. Dete weaves a realistic, harrowed relationship with an unimaginable criminal circumstance, much like Gillian Flynn's, Gone Girl. EXCEPT, Dete does it with empathy and heart in a way that doesn't make the main characters out to be villains, but rather humanizes them. Awesome read!

Date Meserve did an excellent job of putting all of the pieces in the puzzle in order to come up with a winning thriller! Terrific believable characters who are led on a wild goose chase right through to the finish. Redemption finally at the end. Date Meserve i just want you to know that I have loved studying the sky my entire life. . For those of you who don't take the time, please try it! There's magic up there for all of us to absorb! I enjoyed this book enough that I have Good Sam ready to go! Thanks, Dete, for your work of art!

Normally, I quickly read a print version of a book. For some reason I decided to listen to the audio version instead. What a gift. By listening rather then reading, I was able to savor a story that was on the one hand a mystery and, on the other, a beautiful, poetic trip by the author thru the stars. Highly recommended.

The Space Between was a good mystery/thriller, but not a great one. I did enjoy the story and the astronomy tidbits thrown in here and there were interesting and fit in well. The characters fell a little flat for me, however, and I had a hard time relating to Sarah for some reason. Overall it was a quick and enjoyable read though, so I would definitely give Dete Meserve another try.

I loved the story, the science, the characters. There was only one little hole in the plot I found the FBI were ridiculously incompetent to miss the gun hidden in the case and no mention of tipped them off about the lilac bush.

Dete Meserve has hit a home run with “The Space Between.” From the very first page until the end, this was a novel I found difficult to put down. However, when life intruded, I was happy to end my day with a few more chapters, Meserve is now on my short list of must-read authors. Her style is captivating, with a well-researched background which is as believable as the character’s readers immediately care about.
This novel has it all, romance, mystery, intrigue and a satisfying twist.

Dete Meserve did it again. Fantastic book filled with suspense, love, twist and turns. I’ll never look at the stats in the same way and I’ll make it a point to take time to appreciate the beauty that shines just above us.

I really enjoyed this book. This is a first time author for me and I have found she is a very good writer. I really enjoyed reading about the night sky. The book had a great story line, the characters were great and the suspense too. I will read more of her books.

This book will have you questioning everyone and everything all the way until the end. You will be wondering who did what, here and when. Such an amazing book and the narration was amazing. This is a book you will not want to miss out on.

Definitely one of my favorite reads in a long time! Part romance, part suspense. The characters are believable and I found myself rooting for the protagonists as if they were my own friends. Highly suggest you add it to your reading list.

I liked the idea of a female scientist, especially something like astronomy. But this woman is smug, condescending and unbelievably self centered. The book goes back and forth thru time with story after story of the loving and romantic things her husband has done for her, not one thing about anything she did for him. No support for his dreams and goals, just her expectation that he will constantly try to please her. When he becomes inattentive for a while, she immediately wants a divorce. I really, really didn’t like her. She didn’t deserve him. Also as others have mentioned, the narrator spoke very weirdly, turned every word with an s into zzzzz, like his became hizzzzz, lost lozzzt, it was annoying.

Astronomer Sarah Mayfield arrives home from a presentation for NASA to find her husband missing. This is only the beginning of the story, as Sarah begins to thoroughly evaluate the cracks in her marriage as she is under suspicion for her husband's disappearance. This is not an intense thriller or psychological thriller, but it does have some mystery for those that love that genre. This is a hidden gem that I hope gets uncovered by book clubs!

A great story of suspense. Sarah Mayfield has just did the presentation of her life in DC. She returns to find her husband, Ben has disappeared. He had been in New York to buy a restaurant there. Sarah & Ben have had their lives going in different directions lately. Their son Zack has also been gone for a school trip. Sarah cannot believe the things she is hearing about her husband from others. Their home security tapes have been wiped clean. Can her friend Aaron help her find out what was happening while she was gone? This story has a lot about astronomy in it and as Sarah is trying to figure out what happened and where Ben is, she thinks about the love and good times in their fifteen year marriage. Lots going on but the story moves right along.

THE SPACE BETWEEN is Dete Meserve's third book, and quite a departure from GOOD SAM and PERFECTLY GOOD CRIME. The latter books were well written, enjoyable, and spurred an increase in being 'good Samaritans' in our daily lives. Terrific feel-good books. However, this latest mystery has a darker edge; bad things happen. Who done-did-them? I read this book, almost non-stop, trying to learn for myself just what happened during the few days that noted astronomer Sarah Mayfield was out of town delivering to NASA news of a recent celestial discovery. The mysteries of the solar system were simple to decipher compared to what happened right here on Earth, in her own home, to her own family. While the planets have predictable orbits and can be explained by scientific method, human behavior follows chaos, and this juxtaposition of activity makes it difficult for Sarah to reconcile the unknowns in her life. Simply, she needs to find answers to: what happened to her husband? To his friends and associates? Why does a little-used bank account have a recent deposit of $1 million? The book title refers to the fact that while we can view stars in the sky with the naked eye, there are "...thousands of stars in the space between those stars..." Back on Earth, it tells us that so much more is going on than what we actually can see. That is the premise of Dete Meserve's book;: just what is going on?. The book was fast-paced and riveting. I could not put THE SPACE BETWEEN down until I finished!! (PS Kate Bradley has a cameo role. Readers of Ms. Meserve's previous books recognize her as a local reporter. She planned to move from Los Angeles to a new job in New York City. Perhaps she's in the process of making the move in this book?)

Dete Meserve does it again in The Space Between with a suspenseful nail-biter of a mystery. I absolutely loved this book. It kept me up late and I couldn't put it down until the end. Sarah, the story's heroine, is a successful woman who knows her place in the world (and out of it--she's an astronomer!) who is caught up in her career when her equally busy restaurateur husband, Ben, suddenly disappears and is ultimately accused of a terrible crime. But the plot is much more complicated than that. Is he alive? Is he dead? Have the last fifteen years been a lie? Meserve deftly navigates the characters histories and hearts while unravelling a mystery I'm still thinking about after the final page. I loved the way she wove Sarah's love for the cosmos so deeply into the relationship. A wonderful story and a gorgeous exploration of rediscovering what it means to have loved someone for half your life. I highly recommend!

An extremely engaging mystery with a lot of heart. I read it in one day because I couldn't wait to find out the ending! Dete Meserve really knows how to build a story through character, suspense, and a moving love story.

After announcing the biggest discovery of her career, Sarah Mayfield, astronomer, comes home and finds that her life has been totally tuned upside down. Her husband of fifteen years, Ben, is missing and as time goes on is presumed to be dead. Sarah and her son Kyle are trying to get by the day to day trying to understand what’s happening to their lives. Sarah is thrust into a world she never imagined and begins to question everything she knows about her marriage, her husband, her life. Sarah also comes to find out that maybe she doesn’t know certain people in her life as well as she thinks she does. As the mystery unfolds will Sarah be able to put her life back together?
This book has you hooked from the very beginning. One of my favorite things Sarah says several times in the book is “Like so many things in the universe, the answers might be hiding in plain sight or obscured by what we see in front of us”. Sarah’s willingness to try and see things from all angles and make new discoveries whether it be in her work or in life is infectious. Dete Meserve has written an incredible story of faith, love, family and hope, with a fantastic mystery to make it all come together!
I absolutely loved this book. If you haven’t read Dete Meserve before, I suggest you pick up one of her books. She’s an amazing author that tells you a story that keeps you riveted until the end.
