Must have if you are starting the grand adventure of homemade baby food. I'm so fed up with store bought food and having my son refuse to eat it. I tried Gerber's peaches and it tasted like I bit directly into a peach pit. Poor kid, I dont blame him one bit. I should have started this from the beginning. First time parent mistake I guess. Any how, more than glad I bought this book. Best $12 bucks I've spent in along time!
The author is a dietician and a parent. She takes you through recipes step by step. And even storage. There's so much this book covers... Its not just recipes.+
You won't be disappointed!
(I got the hard copy, not the kindle version.)
If you ask a question, I will be more than happy to answer it when I get the notification!

i’m little disappointed about this book.. first i wanna say is not too many pics .. and the words showed on each page almost same thing.. only the right side is useful— they tell you what you need to prepare. that will be better if they could put more pics instead of the same words on the same page!

I received this book today. I've been reading through the first chapter and the early recipes! I LOVE it. So happy I chose this book out of all of the different options. It's great if you need a refresher on your organic produce. This book is written by a registered dietitian, so you know you can trust what she writes. I like that she goes in stages so you know what baby can have each month. So excited to feed my little one.

Absolutely fantastic. We're slowly working our way through the recipes and each one is a hit with our daughter. I especially love Stephanie's candid discussion of foods, what we should be feeding early and how best to raise a healthy little kid! Her advice is thoughtful, realistic and practical.
This is a must buy for the expert or novice, for the person who loves to cook and the one who's terrified. Stephanie makes this easy!

The Illustrations in this book are really nice. The book is broken down into section and is full of information.
Part One: Only The Best
1.) Choosing An Organic Start
2.) The Organic Kitchen
3.) The First Feeding and Beyond
Part Two: Recipes For Baby and Family
4) Stage 1 Single Ingredient Purees
5) Stage 2 Smooth Combination Purees
6) Stage 3 Chunky Combination Purees
7) Smoothies and Finger Foods
8) Toddler Meals
9) Family Dinners
There are several charts that help you to determine the food introduction schedule and also include the clean fifteen. The recipes are simple and easy to read. The family dinners include some flavorful recipes that my family will enjoy. There are a few though my bunch wouldn't be willing to try though like Peanut Butter Noodles and Broccoli. I really like how the book also includes gluten free and dairy free options. This is a great gift for mothers to be also. We are enjoying it! I received a review copy of this book from the publisher,

Recipient can not praise this book enough. Not just food suggestions but combinations and texture suggestions as your baby grows and increases her chewing and pinching skills. Very nicely laid out thoughtful book for starting your little one off on a healthy start!

got this for my daughter and Grandson who has dairy and soy allergies. She absolutely loves this cookbook and wanted to know if there was a second edition. He will be a year old in September so we are hoping he will out grow the allergies but she still wants to keep cooking organic for him since it is so much healthier. LOVE This book and the food taste great

This is a really wonderful resource. The book begins with a fairly detailed chapter that outlines the purpose and use of the book, equipment needed and recommended, notes on seasonality, and on and on. Following this are chapters broken down by the age of the child, from 6 months to family-friendly toddler meals. While the first chapter is a bit repetitive--there are a LOT of "recipes" for basically cooked and pureed fruits and vegetable that all have about the same preparation--the book quickly redeems itself in the last few chapters, with really innovative, interesting, healthy, and *simple* recipes. You'll never look at those unappetizing (and expensive) jars of food on the supermarket shelves the same way again! While I received a free copy of this book in return for my fair and unbiased review, this is certainly a book I am very pleased to have on my shelf and I recommend it to anyone looking to change the way they feed their young children.

Having been a picky eater pretty much all my life, which is most of why I was drawn to the big book of organic baby food by Stephanie Middleburg MS, RD, CDN. Understanding how difficult starting the food process is with babies, she has constructed a wonderfully fun and uncomplicated guide for organics that carries you from their first bite to full family meals. Being set up similarly to most cookbooks that I've read, part one covers the specifics of the style of cooking, then part two covers the recipes. In part one the benefits of feeding organic as well as sections on organic labeling, allergy insight, and also tips on eating with the season to maximize cost, nutrition and flavor. Part two provides all the recipes broken down into stages. I thought it a nice touch that included with the recipes are labels for dietary restrictions as well as specialty sections on topics like vegetarian diets and rice cereal. Even if just using this book to supplement jar food, its variety of flavors and ingredients well surpass your grocery store shelf. I wish I would've had this book when my girls were younger, especially my youngest who has proven to be a difficult eater. I actually plan on trying quite a few of these recipes as they look very enticing. I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.

This is a very approachable, easy-to-read, unpretentious cookbook for those of us who aren't super comfortable or skilled in the kitchen. Following an intro section with a TON of helpful, informative charts and reference material from the dietitian author (seriously, the information in the intro alone covers all your bases in terms of feeding your kid--I'm going to photocopy some of the charts to put up on my fridge), the book is arranged chronologically from first bites to purees, chunky blends, finger foods, and finally family meals. Each section is color coded so it's easy to find when flipping open the book. Each recipe is also coded with labels for dietary restrictions (GF, vegan, etc.) and freezer-friendly recipes. Each recipe includes tips from the author (e.g., storage), often with a bit of humor thrown in. I liked the emphasis on eating in season to get the highest quality ingredients, and I love that so many of the recipes are naturally vegan. There was a section in the introduction about vegetarianism, but not veganism, which I would have liked to see as raising kids vegan is becoming more popular these days. I love the cover art and the design of the book too--it will make a great gift for my other mom friends. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

I got this book after meeting Stephanie at an event. I'd heard her speak and actually saw this book a few times but my baby wasn't even born yet, so the timing was perfect as we were just introducing solids at 4 months. My husband and I eat super healthy and organic, but as a brand new mama I really knew nothing about where to start. I knew I wanted to make my own food and totally want to know where it comes from, but I needed some ideas on how to make delicious meals that not only healthy, organic, and easy to make. This book is not only a cookbook, but it actually starts off by teaching you about feeding your baby and the benefits of making your own food. It gives you the basics: eating produce in season, discusses eggs, diary, and meat, provides information on the tools and equipment you will need to make organic baby food, how to store the food, etc. The rest of the book is filled with great recipes that are simple, innovative, and healthy. All of the recipes are divided into stages according to the age level of the child: starting at 6 months (mainly puree recipes), 6-8 months (smooth combination purees), 9-12 months (chunky combination purees), 10 months and up (smoothies and finger foods), 12-18 months (toddler meals), 12 months and up (family meals). Each recipe tells you if it is: diary free, gluten free, nut free, vegetarian, and vegan. Each recipe also gives information of the foods you will be cooking with, the herbs and spices you can use.
My freezer is filled with frozen cubes and Isabella has yet to reject anything I've made from this book! ??

I cooked several of the finger foods recipes from the 10 months + section and noticed the time given to cook in the oven was always off. Of course I know oven temperatures may vary, so I just continued to adjust a little. It became disappointing when most of the time I had to add time to bake and a few times the food burnt a little or over cooked. I've used other cookbooks in the past and I have not had this issue.

I really like the breakdown of the different recipes by age. I also like that there are family meals as the last chapter so that we can eat one thing as a family. Uses similar foods (beets, squash, beef, turkey, etc.) repeatedly in various forms through the eating stages - I was wondering if there would be more food options.

Downloaded a sample for my kindle. Really hope I didn’t pay for it...the “sample” didn’t include ANY recipes and I have no option to download the entire book to my kindle even though it says kindle or paperback.

This book is awesome for anyone looking to make food for their little one! As a first time mom, feeding my daughter food for the first time was a little overwhelming! This book is very informative and gave me much more confidence when making/feeding her solids. It starts with simple purees then moves on to blends and finger foods. The author even adds what spices go with each puree. This is a huge plus for us because we love to cook and want to discourage picky eating. We're currently in the first section and I'm excited to have this as my little one grows!

I got quite redundant with my daughters food. I've never purchased commercial baby food, so I really was quite unsure what to mix up other than the general basics.
This cookbook helped me expand my daughters pallet. Now I know she's getting different nutrients and vitamins in certain pouches I cook. And the fact that a lot of the book is vegetarian friendly is a plus since I'm a pescatarian. Amazing book. I would suggest purchasing this if you want to make your own baby food. Also recommend putting the foods in pouches rather than the ice cube trays.

Incredible cookbook! I needed to be a little more creative and add as many nutrient rich foods in for my 1 year old without becoming too repetitive (which i tend to do for my 5.5 and 8 year old girls). Day 1 i made 3 recipes and he gobbled them up in minutes! Not only that but my 5.5 year old and my husband finished everything I had made as well! I think I would call that a success! I can't wait to try more recipes, definitely highly recommended!

This is a PERFECT and comprehensive cookbook for your baby, toddler and family. My wife has used several of the recipes so far for our 13 month-old son and none of them have been disappointments. Our son absolutely loves roasted vegetables with blends of herbs and spices, as well as the unique finger food options. This has been our go-to family cookbook.

Love the variety and different combos to make purees and meals for a little ones. I love being able to look in my freezer and start making combinations that my little ones love and I feel safe with them eating. Great time saver to be able to make some of these and bulk, and not pay $2 per pouch at the store!

I love the ideas for food combinations and the tips in each section for things like how often to offer water. There are a lot of baby food books on the market but I chose this one because it gives tips on how to help your child build a relationship with food through the years. My baby girl is 7 months old now and is enjoying these recipes.

Great book! I loved that it contained information about labeling and organic vs. natural, as well as many awesome recipes for the different stages. I've been recommending this book to all my mama friends! Even if you don't plan on making your own baby food, this book is worth the read!
