Review:Read this cover to cover the day we got it, and the hardest thing was picking a recipe to try first!
The use of miso in many of these recipes to replace salt is brilliant - we had the yellow rice & black beans with broccoli as our main dinner course and the miso added a salty kick that we could feel good about eating. It was shockingly delicious and packed with umami flavor. We also made the stuffed sweet potatoes with balsamic-date glaze, so good! This food doesn't TASTE like you're ... Read more
Review:I purchased the hardcover book which is beautifully illustrated with a color picture by each recipe. The print is large enough to be easily read. The recipes give step by step instructions that are easy to follow with ingredients that are readily found in stores with the exception of the Fuhrman seasonings which are optional. I like this book because most of the recipes do not call for soy, tahini, or miso. The three recipes that I have tried turned out well & were enjoyed by my family. ... Read more
Review:I did recipe testing for this book, so I have cooked a LOT of these recipes. They are easy for home cooks to follow, use primarily ingredients people (at least vegans) will already have at home, and are accompanied by so many beautiful pictures! The pictures are what really make me excited to cook a recipe and I'm happy that there are so many. My favorite recipes are the king pao lentils, especially when made using the date-sweetened teriyaki sauce, and the peanut butter blender cake. I made... Read more
Review:Thug Kitchen 101 is my 2nd Thug Kitchen book and I love them all. Recipes are fresh and innovative and very easy to follow. Techniques and terminology that might not be common knowledge are thoroughly explained. Photographs and funny captions of both the completed dishes and California landmarks guide you through the book. I'm not a Vegan but these dishes are tasty, creative and relatively nutritious. Creamy Squash Mac & Cheese with Hot Sauce & Breadcrumbs along with the Dan Dan Noodles... Read more
Review:I've been having fun going thru this book. The recipes I've tried thus far have been pretty easy. The only criticism I'd give it would be to be a little more descriptive on some of the cooking terms for the cooking illiterate, like myself. But it's accomplishing it's goal, which is to get me to try cooking more so that I'm no longer so cooking illiterate. (example: poached pears, the terms parboiling and poaching. I had an idea what these terms meant, but went to the all mighty google to confirm... Read more
Review:My 1st grade class was into it for the most part but the overall book itself was pretty boring and predictable even for a group of 6-7 year olds. The printing was messed up as well, each page with a picture had nothing on the page behind it so it really threw me off when we all sat down for read aloud, I thought the book was maybe missing pages. I recommend a different book if possible, it is a cool concept, but not engaging enough for an entire book "cool concept", more like a short discussion ... Read more
Review:"Around the Way Girl" was my book club choice for the month of March. This was my first memoir and I was excited to read it. I love learning about and supporting people who know what they want and actually do what they need to do in order to achieve their goals. I am a firm believer that anyone can achieve their dreams if they believe in themselves and do the work. Some will have to do more work than others to achieve the same dreams and goals, that is just how life works but as long as you don'... Read more
Review:This is a fun book, but really seems only to have been written for people who are already fans of Mamrie and does nothing to broaden her audience. I imagine anyone who picks up this book without knowing anything about her would be quite turned off.
As a fan though, I enjoyed it. Read more
Review:Another 5 star review! Hopefully this helps you know a bit more what you're getting. If you don’t know anything about this book, you’ll want to check out the Nerdy Nummies YouTube channel, where she has videos of how to make all of these recipes. The cookbook is simply another convenient format for people that want fast access to some of her more popular recipes.

Review:Excellent historical recipes adapted for the modern kitchen. Loved the cinnamon scone and the goat cheese and bacon tarts. Beautifully photographed and it was wonderful to have excerpts from the books with each recipe. The author gives excellent directions and cooking tips. Would highly recommend this cookbook to anyone wanting to explore the tastes of Scotland. For Outlander fans, it's a just another wonderful way to connect with the story of Jamie and Claire. Read more
