Anne Lamott has a quirky writing voice, engaging and down to earth. But one should not mistake this quirkiness for lack of depth. Ms. Lamott takes on life, with all its myriad challenges, and emerges faithful. I love her for that.

Once again, Anne Lamott has written a faith-fueled book that offers deep inspiration served with a relatable gritty edge. Lamott's love of Jesus, and gratitude for His pivotal role in her life's ongoing transformation and her continued sobriety, are touchingly clear on every page of this gem of a book. Alas, now the wait begins for her next masterpiece!

As always, Lamott writes to encourage us who are not totally perfect in our walk with Christ. Many of us face/have faced the types of situations she has dealt with and are inspired to keep on keeping on.

A very good writer, sharing her own life experiences in a way that is refreshing as well as enabling readers to have it resonate with their own and/or open their empathy to others who have similar experiences.

Love Anne Lamott. Lots of great, fresh perspectives. I had a hard time "riding along" at times, though. Like an unplanned road trip, there were some very interesting stops...But also a few long, winding paths leaving me, at least, uncertain of the intended destination (thus the adventure). But hey, you're in good hands with Anne at the wheel.

Anne Lamott is one of my most consistent and reliable guides on this journey through life. I would recommend her work to anybody in need of a gentle friend. Her words are the literary equivalent of a tender shoulder rub; 'there, there,' they seem to say, 'everything is going to be all right, and even if it isn't, we can work out these stubborn knots together.' As somebody who doesn't prescribe to an organized religion, usually books with overt religious themes in them feel inaccessible to me, but Anne somehow manages a spirit of inclusion and compassion that reaches beyond the aisles of faith and that allows the reader to receive her message of belonging regardless of religious affiliation.

I bought this book the instant it came out. Like most of Anne's work, it is a short read, and I devoured it lazily in one day. But, despite being such a short feast, it is one that is nourishing and good for the soul. Just like always, she came through when I needed her the most. If you are feeling lost, aimless, short of breath and slightly arthritic, and you need a gentle salve for your heart and soul and rickety joints, please consider spending an evening with Anne Lamott. We could all use a little warmth on the journey.

Ms Lamott does as well as anyone can in describing grace and mercy while not actually recognizing the Jesus Christ as God, rather than on the same level as Buddha, a created being. We need grace and mercy in our relations with each other, but ultimately only in a restored relationship with our Creator do we start to understand what grace means.

I found the writing to be somewhat uneven. Some chapters were clear and easy to understand while others were a puzzle as to what the author was getting at. Too much biographical information for my taste.

I have loved Anne Lamott's writing for many years, going all the way back to Bird by Bird. I pre-ordered Hallelujah and was so looking forward to some more great insights, irreverent truths, astonishing word pictures, aha! moments. I am terribly disappointed. I probably won't even finish the book.
However, for anyone who has not read Lamott, buy one (or two or five) of her earlier books. You will not be disappointed. (Mercy extended.)

I found this book somewhat disjointed. I am a huge Lamott fan and found portions of it very similar to portions of some of her other books. I would say it's definitely not her best but still an easy, mostly enjoyable read.

Continuing meditations on her journey through life, family matters, friendship, and whatever comes to mind, Anne Lamont has a way of engaging us with down to earth commentary, humor and spirit that invites us to look inward to the way we are going about our own lives. She has inspired me in many ways through her books and I am grateful to be able to praise and be thankful once again!

Fortunately, this book is short. While Lamott eventually draws the reader in to her stories and anecdotes, overall this is a lazy piece of writing that darts from thought to thought with no editing, no logic, and ultimately, no new insights.
