I bought this for our 2nd grader, midway through the year. Some of what is in the book he is learning this year, but most is representative for 3rd grade curriculum. It covers many different areas, so if you are looking for one book to do it all, this is a great one. It's big, so I like that you can easily tear out pages if you would like. Most importantly, he really enjoys it compared to other workbooks we have used.

I first purchased this workbook for my 8 year old daughter to work on her third grade skills. After reviewing the book, I was thoroughly impressed. There are sections for everything my daughter is learning or will be learning this year in school. It includes spelling and vocabulary, parts of speech, reading comprehension, odds and evens, magic squares, multiplication tables, Brain Boxes, and much more. My 8 year old loves it so much that my other 8 year old daughter wanted one too. I enjoy the fact that it has easy to follow explanations making it a breeze for my girls to comprehend. I would definitely recommend this to parents who want to help the kiddos academically.

My daughter (starting third grade next month) really enjoys the exercises in this book. It makes learning fun and keeps her on her toes. My only complaint is that much of the material is a review of things learned in second grade. Brain Quest should consider adding some more advanced exercises appropriate to the third grade curriculum.

I have used a number of brainquest workbooks and like them all. They are easy to understand and simple concepts. Sometimes they do seem a little redundant though where they could accelerate learning quicker if they wanted.

Wonderful book for my 3rd grade grand daughter. It has helped her to not only keep up at school but excel in some subjects. She loves doing a few pages every day with me!! It also follows just what she is being taught this year... We'll worth buying!!!

Very thick book. This book has a wide variety of activities. I feel that they are grade appropriate. I will be buying the 4th grade level for my child to practice with over the summer. This way she will be ready for school to start.

This book is just amazing! I am homeschooling my 8 year old and he loves this book. It has 13 different subjects, some with as many as 30 pages of assignments and some with as few as 10. He went through half of 2nd grade before we homeschooled him and was ahead of his class so we bought him the 3rd grade book. A lot of the assignments are easy for him while others he requires help. I plan on buying the 4th and 5th grade books after we finish this one. This book was only $10 and worth every penny!

I truly love all of the BrainQuest workbooks. It saves me money and headaches. It has many subjects in this one workbook and explains to the child how to complete each task. Gives examples and clues, little reminders for little minds.

I ordered this after seeing the fourth grade book in a local bookstore. My daughter is in 3rd grade, the store was out of that level, so I came to the store. I originally was interested mainly in the math section, as she has struggled in that area and, so far, it has really helped. The activities have been a good a match for her school curriculum: evens and odds, addition and subtraction with regrouping up to 3 digits, rounding, multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, measurement, time and money, and word problems. There are other one page and two page exercises thrown in (graphs and charts, lines, signs, etc.) that have been helpful, as well. We follow BrainQuest as she moves through her curriculum and it definitely helps.
What has pleasantly surprised me is how great the other content areas of the book are. When she was struggling with alphabetical order and dictionary skills, the BQ Workbook had activities for her. When she had a test on common and proper nouns, the BQ Workbook had a page we could use as test review. When she needed more study on main ideas, topic sentences, and supporting details, the BQ Workbook had activities for us to use. When she was studying the human body or the US Constitution or animal habitats or maps ... this Workbook has not yet disappointed.
The absolute best thing about this Workbook is that my child (age 8) *asks* to use it. She thinks it's fun. When she's "bored" either at home or in the car, she'll turn to this Workbook. I really cannot recommend this highly enough. (*Note: my pre-schooler also loves his Pre-K BQ Workbook!)

This is a basic workbook that covers all areas of the grade level. I would use it more for a guide as reminded of what they should be learning. If using it as a supplement to homeschool I would definitely not use it for my child's work. I am talking like 2 pages max of a handful of problems. But it is a good GUIDE book of what to cover in that grade and go to pinterest or other websites to find more hands on work. This is NOT sufficient if you want them to retain the knowledge.
It is also a good book to get an idea at the beginning of a new year of what you may need to go over before starting a new grade. But I would not use this as an all inclusive teaching tool unless your goal is to teach your child as little as possible and very likely forget it before the next page.
