My 11 year old daughter was assigned this book to read for class, so I bought myself a copy and we wound up reading it together, out load with accents and a great southern drawl! It was a good story about family and the many ways that can be defined. Written very well.

The author spun his first person story with mystery, intrigue, and humor. The use of humor, blunted the sadness that accompanied this boy as he searched for his roots. The mystery of his father unrolled through the story in layers that drew the reader along in a pleasant ride to a pleasant conclusion.

This book was hilarious! Bud is such and endearing and spunky young boy. Even left homeless and alone, he never lost hope and pushed on into the unknown. This book paints a great picture of the despair and hopelessness of the Great Depression while showing the hope found in the American spirit. This is a book I wish I had found earlier. It was a truly fantastic story.
